Chapter 1204: 13

The rebels at Yari Horn discovered the unusual mobilization of the Planetary Defense Force. Several of their forward positions were swept clean in the past few hours, serving as a stark warning.

But they never expected that the opposing Planetary Defense Force would launch a full-scale assault on Yari Horn, especially with such a strong first wave of airstrikes.

On the Western Continent, comparing the Planetary Defense Forces to the cult rebels, the former were at a disadvantage in manpower, weaponry, and morale.

But they had the sole aerial advantage.

Relying on air superiority, the Planetary Defense Forces managed to maintain the war front from collapsing too severely.

However, the rebels were also prepared for this. A considerable number of anti-aircraft guns posed a significant threat to the air force; the ground fortifications were also well-designed to protect against air strikes; the artillery positions remained well-concealed before firing.

Yet, regardless, the airstrike bombardment by these hundreds of aircraft still threw Yari Horn’s defensive positions into chaos, so much so that the rebels at Yari Horn couldn’t effectively retaliate with firepower when the 331st Division’s artillery units commenced their attack.

The initial stage of combat seemed smooth, with Yari Horn’s defenders a bit flustered.

But this did not mean everything would go smoothly from then on. The main force of the rebels was far from being destroyed; their heavy firepower remained intact, and their positions were still whole.

After the air force and heavy artillery bombardment, the Planetary Defense Force’s armored and mechanized units were already on the move, employing coordinated infantry and armored tactics, prepared to seize the front positions.

But the rebel forces’ counterattack also ensued.

Numerous infantry combat squads emerged from the forward defensive positions. They posed a significant threat to the advancing infantry and couldn’t be entirely ignored by the main battle tanks, armed with some individual anti-armor weapons.

The battle erupted when they were still twenty kilometers from the core rebel positions at Yari Horn.

When the Planetary Defense Force’s advance was obstructed, the rebels’ heavy artillery was also ready and began firing on the attackers.

But at this moment, besides the twelve warriors mingled within the ground forces, the Phoenix Battle Group’s most formidable weapon unleashed its power.

From the orbital position, the ’Burn Feather’ Strike Cruiser commenced an orbital bombardment on the ground!

On the ’Burn Feather’, the main combat weapons are the Colossal Cannon array, comprising over a dozen [Thunder Punishment Type] Colossal Cannons of varying sizes and calibers.

These space mega-cannons projected shells onto Yari Horn’s region at the scheduled time, delivering a devastating blow to the defenders at Yari Horn.

The space mega-cannon’s orbital bombardment is not invincible; the Burn Feather is not equipped with planet-destroying weapons. If ground forces had fortified defenses against orbital bombardment and appropriate tactics, the losses wouldn’t be catastrophic.

However, the cult rebels were clearly unprepared.

Rage Owl Star lacked orbital defense and strike capabilities. There once were, but the Space Fleet and Space Fortress stationed at the Starport essentially belonged to the Phoenix Battle Group.

When the battle group was sentenced to a penitential expedition, they wished they could disassemble the Starport to enhance their power on the expedition and better endure the harsh century ahead. Naturally, they wouldn’t leave any warship or cosmic force for the Rage Owl Star.

During the past decade of cult rebellion wars, the rebels had never faced such an attack and thus lacked even the awareness of guarding against it.

This led these cult traitors to pay a mighty and tragic price.

Space mega-cannons with calibers far beyond terrestrial weapons, burning through the sky like meteorites, struck Yari Horn’s positions before anyone could react.

Subsequently, a dreadful red glow emerged over Yari Horn’s positions, nearly engulfing the entire area. This glow came from the ’Burn Feather’s main gun, an L-level Thunder Punishment Colossal Cannon; soon after, several smaller red glows appeared, the results of multiple M-level, S-Class Colossal Cannons.

This intense light effect left lasting afterimages in the eyes of the advancing Planetary Defense Force soldiers. The light was so intense, like a small sun rising before them.

Following the scorching sun on the ground, a giant mushroom cloud, along with several smaller ones, rose. Heat waves and shockwaves obliterated nearly all ground fortifications and war equipment on the position. Even the Planetary Defense Force over twenty kilometers away from the bombarded Yari Horn positions felt the terrible shockwaves and heat waves.

Though these shockwaves and heat wouldn’t cause direct fatal damage, their dreadful extent was palpable.

The shockwaves, even after subsiding to this distance, still caused instability; many soldiers were injured by flying debris, and a few unlucky ones were even killed on the spot.

At this moment, the deafening blast followed, nearly inducing deafness.

Both warring sides paused their actions immediately. The apocalyptic scene shook everyone. The advancing Planetary Defense Forces stood aghast, watching in disbelief as the position they were meant to sacrificially seize was obliterated by this divine retribution.
