Chapter 3418: Escape

The walls of Beacon City were made of the hardest stones available in the Spirit Nidus. It would be difficult for an average Semi-Progenitor to break the stones. Despite that, at this moment, they collapsed.

Many nearby people were also affected, and they scuttled out of the shattered buildings, too furious to speak. None of them knew what had just happened.

Far away, Yi Xia grew furious. "Which idiot doesn’t know how to act secretly? Go now!"

He was the City Lord of Beacon City, which gave him the final authority in everything here.

Experts swarmed over from all directions. They were all as strong as Semi-Progenitors and Progenitors. In the Spirit Nidus, peak powerhouses were known as Spirit Ancestors, while both Semi-Progenitors and Envoys were referred to as Spirit Warriors. Only individuals who possessed at least the strength of an Envoy were qualified to attack the Consciousness Megaverse, and the Spirit Nidus considered those who were equal to Semi-Progenitors to be in the same cultivation realm as Envoys.

The pressure fell again.

"Ba Liu, Yi Yao, you two are too reckless." The person who had attacked stood high in the sky. He raised his hand and moved to attack again.

Ba Liu’s expression fell. "Who do you think you are? How dare you criticize me!"

As the man spoke, a throwing knife appeared in his hand and shot out.

The attacker was wary of the blade and quickly dodged it. He succeeded in avoiding the attack, but he abruptly coughed up blood, much to his horror.

Ba Liu’s knife never missed. While the visuals might not match what actually happened, the blade always struck true. The man might only be a Spirit Warrior who was as strong as a Semi-Progenitor, but he was also a Realmbreaker.

The person who had attacked was a Spirit Ancestor, but even he was unable to avoid Ba Liu’s knife.

The wind howled around them, and the sky seemed to change. The wind shot through the void, transforming into a cutting attack that slashed at Ba Liu from behind.

He spun around, but he did not have enough time to react.

A lamp appeared in front of Yi Yao, and she raised up Nineflames. As the strike passed by, one of the flames was extinguished, but the others remained unharmed.

Ba Liu threw his knife out again, piercing the powerful wind and causing blood to spray out.

Yi Yao shouted, "I can feel that a sequence powerhouse is about to attack!"

Before Ba Liu could even answer, more attacks shot out of the void. All of them were from Spirit Ancestors. More flames were extinguished, and of the nine flames, only three remained now.

Yi Yao was a Spirit Ancestor, and she also possessed a spirit weapon. Hers was the Nineflames. Each flame could prevent an injury, but once all nine flames were extinguished, the person would die.

Ba Liu shouted, "Lord Yi Xia, what will happen if the springboard is used?"

All of the attacks stopped, and people stepped out, revealing themselves and surrounding the two individuals. There was no escape.

Even though this was when there were the fewest cultivators in Beacon City, they still had no problem in dealing with these two.

Yi Xia stepped forward, his expression stormy as he stared at the two. "What did you say?"

Ba Liu breathed a sigh of relief. As long as he was given the opportunity to speak, they would be fine. He had been afraid that the people surrounding them would not even give them the chance to speak, which would render all of their plans useless.

Beside him, Yi Yao’s face had grown pale. Six of her Nineflames had been extinguished, and she had also used up a great deal of energy, exhausting herself. However, if she had not allowed those six flames to be extinguished, they would have already died.

Confronted with so many powerful cultivators surrounding them, even being at the Spirit Ancestor level was useless.

Ba Liu stared at Yi Xia. "If the springboard is used, your crimes will be even greater than ours, right?"

Yi Xia’s eyes narrowed. "How do you plan to use the springboard?"

He did not believe that there was anyone in Beacon City aside from him alone who could use the springboard, but he still did not dare to take such a risk. If Ba Liu really could use the springboard, then Yi Xia would be done for, even if he was the grandson of a Seraph. Using the springboard was one of the gravest crimes in the entire Spirit Nidus.

Blood dripped from Ba Liu’s arm, and Yi Yao snatched up his hand. This action caused Yi Xia’s expression to grow even worse.

Ba Liu bluntly answered, "I can’t use the springboard."

Yi Yao was caught off guard, and bloodlust blossomed in the eyes of the surrounding people.

Yi Xia sighed in relief, though his killing intent only grew stronger. "Are you toying with me?"

Ba Liu silently sent a message to Yi Xia, "I can’t use the springboard because both of us are here, but I can tell others how to use it.

"It’s well-known that the springboard is protected by eight sequence powerhouses who have mastered the Severing sequence technique, protecting it from all eight directions. Only you, the city lord, or the three vice city lords if they move together, can enter that area, right?

"However, the truth is that it isn’t just those eight experts who protect the springboard."

Yi Xia’s pupils shrank.

"City Lord, I don’t need to use the springboard myself. All I need to do is release this information to the rest of the Spirit Nidus, letting all of them know about it. I have looked into this and will make sure that the news spreads. What do you think the High Seraph will do then? Will you be able to continue your leisurely life as the city lord of Beacon City? I’ve heard that your Seraph wants you to have the Heaven-Devouring Umbrella. With that, you’ll be qualified to compete to become a Seraph yourself.

"However, if this information is leaked, do you think that you’ll still be qualified?"

Yi Xia stared at Ba Liu. "How do you know about the Severance sequence base?"

This matter was not actually very serious, as it was nothing more than a sequence base that was not even in the ten official sequence bases. Rather, the serious matter was that this sequence base was a secret. If word of it got out, how would the High Seraph and the Seven Seraphs see Yi Xia? His future would vanish.

Yi Xia stared at the man for a long moment. "You’re very clever."

Yi Xia had no doubt that Ba Liu was indeed just guessing because there were no written records or even any evidence of the unofficial sequence base. Only Yi Xia himself, the High Seraph, the Seven Seraphs, and the Gate of the Laws, which constructed sequence bases, knew of this matter. Ba Liu was from the Primal Beastland, which was an enemy of the Gate of the Laws. Thus, it was impossible for him to have learned about the sequence base from them. On top of that, only a few individuals even within the Gate of the Laws knew about this matter.

Constructing a sequence base was not an endeavor that needed the effort of everyone in the Gate of the Laws. Each sequence base was created by a specific individual, and it was unrelated to others.

The person who had created the Severance sequence base had never even visited Beacon City.

"I can help you keep this matter hidden. You should realize that if you commit a crime within my city, I will also be held responsible, since it would happen right beneath my nose. I’ll make this matter completely disappear, but my condition is that you can never see each other again. I will promise you that nothing will happen to either of you. What do you say?" Yi Xia spoke in a deep voice.

Ba Liu chuckled. "As expected of the grandson of the president of the Chamber of Commerce—you’re already looking to make a deal. Too bad, but I don't agree."

Yi Xia’s face darkened. "Are you threatening me?"

Ba Liu said, "I just want to leave and get away from Beacon City, disappearing from everyone's sight. If you let me go, the name 'Severance sequence base' will never leave my mouth."

Yi Xia stared at Ba Liu, and the man stared back.

"Let me think about it."

"Absolutely not. You let us go now. We won't return to the Spirit Nidus, but rather the Consciousness Megaverse instead," Ba Liu said.

Yi Yao was caught off guard. "We're not going to return to the Spirit Nidus?"

Ba Liu shrugged. "We can't go back. Even if we did, we’d just be hunted down. From the start, I planned on taking you to the Consciousness Megaverse."

Yi Yao held Ba Liu's hand tighter. "Where you go, I go."

Ba Liu nodded. "I’ve just been stalling. If I weren’t, I would’ve already made a deal with Yi Xia using this. It was more important for that old man to leave for the Consciousness Megaverse first. He’d never expect us to go there, so we’ll be able to avoid him."

"I understand." Yi Yao’s hand gently stroked Ba Liu’s face, even as her heart ached.

"By the way, what if Beacon City sends a message to the Consciousness Megaverse?"

"They can't. I’ve already destroyed several springboards before we did anything. Without those, they won’t be able to send a full message. They’ll need at least twelve years to rebuild those springboards, but by then, we’ll already be in the Consciousness Megaverse. It only takes ten years to get there from here, since we don't need to build any springboards ourselves."

Ba Liu then looked at Yi Xia with steely determination in his face. "Once we get to the Consciousness Megaverse, you’ll never be threatened by us again, City Lord Yi Xia. It isn’t worth sacrificing your future for two insignificant ants like us."

Yi Xia nodded. "Fine. Let them go."

The other people nearby were all confused by the order, but none of them dared to go against the city lord’s orders. All they could do was open the gate that led to the Consciousness Megaverse. Outside of the city was a springboard that could be used to travel to the Consciousness Megaverse.

Someone delivered a message to Yi Xia, and he looked back and stared at Ba Liu.

Messages were sent between the Spirit Nidus, Consciousness Megaverse, and Beacon City through springboards.

Both the Spirit Nidus and the Consciousness Megaverse could send messages to Beacon City by creating and destroying springboards, taking advantage of the resonance between the two locations. Seeing the resonance caused by the completion or destruction of the springboards could allow someone to interpret a message. Naturally, this meant that Beacon City was surrounded by numerous springboards, and both the Spirit Nidus and the Consciousness Megaverse also had a great number of springboards. This was how they were able to instantaneously transmit information.

Ba Liu had destroyed several of Beacon City’s springboards that were used to send messages to the Consciousness Megaverse. This meant that no information about him and Yi Yao would reach the Consciousness Megaverse before they arrived themselves.

Ba Liu had planned ahead rather completely.

However, the one thing he could not plan for was the fact that a Seraph was supporting Yi Xia, and Ba Liu could not fathom the power of a Seraph.

When Ba Liu and Yi Yao arrived at the city gates, they did not see it open, but rather tightly closed.

He directed a wary look at Yi Xia. "What is the meaning of this?"

Ba Liu's pupils shrank. How could this still be happening?

Yi Yao’s heart sank. Seraph Yi must have publicly announced the existence of the Severance sequence base. With this, even if Ba Liu sent a message back to the Spirit Nidus, Seraph Yi would be regarded as the one who had revealed the sequence base, and that would not be considered Yi Xia’s fault.

"When?" Ba Liu asked, horrified.

Yi Xia smugly answered, "Just a short while ago."

Ba Liu felt confused. "Then why bring us to the gates?"

Yi Xia’s expression fell and his voice grew cold. "This is as close as you’ll ever get to escaping to the Consciousness Megaverse. I wanted to give you hope. Ba Liu, who do you think you are to threaten me? I am Seraph Yi Shang’s grandson! I am the future president of the Spirit Nidus’s Chamber of Commerce, the city lord of Beacon City! I will one day compete to become a Seraph myself, and yet you dare to plot against me? I can’t give you an easy death. The Consciousness Megaverse is right in front of you. Pass through that gate, and you can use a springboard and fly away from this place. But do you think that you can accomplish that?"

Everyone nearby looked at the two criminals with mocking eyes.

It was clear that Ba Liu did not understand the city lord. Who could threaten him? Ba Liu was only an ant.

"I was going to deal with you immediately, but I’ve since changed my mind." Yi Xia’s eyes were ice cold. "You dared to threaten me and forced me to call upon my ancestor. While this matter won’t spread beyond that, I’ll still be punished by my ancestor. Boy, I’ll make you suffer a thousand times worse than me!

"You love Yi Yao? Then I’ll make you watch as your woman is tortured by others.

"Seize them!"

Right in front of the gate, Yi Yao clenched Ba Liu’s hand tightly. The light left her eyes as a bitter smile appeared on her face. "We still weren’t able to escape.

"Rather than suffer humiliation, Ba Liu, let’s go down together."
