The king of Vermillion walked to his throne, sat down slowly, and leaned back into the chair. Every movement exuded power and authority.
He leaned on one of his hands and then looked at the people inside the throne room. “Now I’ll take your ideas and insights on the matter, starting with you, Duke Levester,” the king said, picking out a middle-aged man whose face seemed displeased to be there.
Everyone turned to look at the Duke. The frown on his face said it all, but he had to wipe away that frown as fast as he could. He then walked to the front of the throne room, standing before the throne.
He bowed to the king, portraying a false reverence, but the king could not be bothered with that. He already knew this was something all nobles were trained to do.
Nobles were just rich actors who lied and made it seem like they were telling the truth. A very crucial part of a noble was his ability to make people believe what he was doing.
“Raise your head, Levester. You are the one in charge of information gathering from all around, so now tell me what you know of this demon king candidate,” the king said, his eyes staring daggers into the Duke.
The Duke raised his head and looked at the king. He nodded in a slight manner and spoke. “Ever since word of the demon king candidate in our lands spread, Vermillion has already started collecting information, but what many knew was only surface-level information.
But as my job and duty state, I had to look deeper and find out more about this kingdom. I have sent spies and used different means to gather information.
From what I have gathered, that demon king candidate, Silva, was supposedly born as a human.”
As the Duke said that part, the throne room exploded into noise. How could one be born as a human and become a demon king candidate?
The question ran through all their minds. They wanted to say how absurd it sounded. If not for the fact that the Duke was known for his outstanding information-gathering skills, no one would even think of believing what he said.
The king raised his hand, and they all went silent again—so quiet that if a pin dropped, they would hear it.
“What I say is true. His father was a Duke of the kingdom called Terron,” Levester said.
“Terron? I think I have heard that name before,” the king said. He paused in thought and then spoke. “Indeed, I remember him. He had a beautiful wife. She had white flowing hair and eyes as blue as the sea,” the king said.
“Exactly, my king. And the demon king candidate, Silva Terron, has the same hair and eyes as his mother. That is also more proof of the fact that he was born human.
But a few years into his life, he turned into some sort of dragon demon king candidate without any real explanation as to why he became what he became.
But I digress. The important thing about Silva is the fact that he was known for an immense growth rate. His strength grew constantly, and somehow, he always had powerful beings serving him.
If we want to defeat him, the first thing I would advise would be for us to find a way to separate him from his followers. He might be strong on his own, but with them around, it becomes a very difficult situation to get to him.
If they were somehow removed from the equation, focus could be placed on him alone, and then we can kill the demon king candidate,” Levester said.
“Hmm, so you are saying the best chance at taking out Silva would be to isolate him? I see the concept here. His strength lies in the people around him, then,” the king said.
“Exactly, my king,” Levester said.
“My king, if I may speak,” a woman in beautiful silver and gold armor spoke up. The king looked at her, raised his brow, and pointed at her.
“What could it be, Rachael?” the king asked.
“Why kill him? Why not try to capture him? If he is anything but amazing, as they say he is, I’m sure he has a few ways to cheat death, and we might lose him.
But if he is captured, we can bring him back and even hold him hostage to benefit us in the war. Imagine using the methods we have developed to rid his mind of all his memories and then using the empire’s demon blood to infuse him.
He would become the greatest war machine that humanity has ever seen—maybe even able to compete with the heroes and the demon kings. That would basically tip the scales of the war and change everything, increasing our possibility of winning.
And if this plays out properly, our kingdom will be in control of a very powerful weapon. Our status will rise further, becoming almost on the same footing as the empire and the holy kingdom,” she finished talking and then bowed her head.
Everyone in the room unanimously agreed to what she said. The plan she laid out was beautiful and promised them all a bright future that they wanted.
The king stroked his chin slowly, his eyes showing delight. His mouth slowly turned up in a grin that would send shivers up the spine of anyone who looked at him.

“Rachael, it seems you are more than just a sword—you also have brains behind all that metal. Your plan is amazing,” the king said and stood up.
“If we get that demon king, we will rise for sure, and this war will actually be a good thing in our favor,” the king said with a smile.
Then, suddenly, the doors of the throne room opened, and a guard ran in.
The guard came and fell to his knees with his head to the ground.
“My king, the kingdoms have replied,” he said.
