SORCERER: I WANT TO BE AN ACADEMIC PRODIGY

Chapter 474 - 473: Closing In Step by Step

Chapter 474: Chapter 473: Closing In Step by Step

Tanaya’s residence.

Merely a month after the last family prompt, she was sought after by her own mother again. Through the virtual shadow, that grim face in front of her, Tanaya could make out the suppressed fury within Lady Vicky.

“Tanaya, you’re still in Sky Flow Valley, you haven’t left even half a step, have you?”

“Yes, I have very important matters to handle here.”

The very first words spoken were an accusation, something Tanaya had anticipated, and she responded calmly.

“Important matters? What could be more important than the marriage arranged by the family? Your stubbornness will only bring shame to the family. Is this how you repay the Fitzgerald family for everything they have done for you? You—–

Listen! Stop causing trouble and come back immediately. Everything can still be discussed if you come back now. Do you understand?”

Upon hearing her make excuses, Lady Vicky’s contained rage could no longer be held back, and she unleashed a loud scolding.

After a while, having vented the overflow of her anger, Lady Vicky began to speak with a more moderated tone, emphasizing with deep sincerity.

“I really have important matters and can’t leave for the moment.” Tanaya was wholly unimpressed by this approach.

“You—don’t forget, you’re not the same person you once were! By being this stubborn, do you really want to drag the family down to become a laughingstock again?”

Seeing her as immovable as ever, the anger in Lady Vicky’s heart, which had somewhat abated, started to flare up once more, and her words grew harsher and harsher.

Her words hit Tanaya’s sore spot, as if a massive stone had been placed upon her chest, rendering her silent for a moment.

“How dare you! Who is eavesdropping there?”

Suddenly, Lady Vicky noticed some unusual noise and shouted loudly toward the direction of the door.

“Mother, you’re worrying unnecessarily. There’s no one else here, inside or out, just you and me.” Tanaya hurriedly interjected, showing no sign of panic in her voice.

“Tanaya, you’re becoming increasingly disrespectful.” Lady Vicky’s gaze turned cold, not believing her words at all.

“Did you meet me for the first time today? I remember I’ve always been like this.” Unwilling to pretend any longer, Tanaya stood firm in her attitude.

“Very well then, I hope you continue to be like this.” Lady Vicky, trembling with anger, saw her virtual shadow abruptly vanish.

The connection between them broke at that point, clearly parting on bad terms.

A soft noise came from the door, and Mara entered, full of apologies.

“There’s no need for apologies. Her contacting me was bound to be unpleasant from the start. It has nothing to do with what you did. Besides, you were standing up for me. Her words were indeed too much; I really want to give her a good beating.”

Tanaya did not blame her; instead, she stepped forward and reassuringly took her hand.

Moved by the gesture, Mara’s worries continued unabated in her heart.

It was foreseeable that in the coming days, the pressure from the Fitzgerald family would intensify, and the next person to contact her would undoubtedly not be Lady Vicky.

Not just the Fitzgerald family, but the Gardner family might also take action.

At Sky Flow Valley, the first phase of the research still needed a few more days. Not to mention the subsequent exploration, a hundred, a thousand times more complex. If things continued this way, the situation would become increasingly unfavorable for them.

“Tanaya, maybe—”

“Speak plainly. There’s nothing we can’t discuss.”

“Maybe you could directly ask Lord Galiver for help. Given how highly he once thought of you, discovering your current situation, he surely won’t ignore it.”

“Fool, you also said ‘once.’ Things are different now.”

“Sorry, sorry.”

“Among us, there’s no need for apologies. Perhaps you could find a more sincere way.”

“——”

Tanaya told no one about the occurrences at her residence.

She had her own pride deep in her bones. Ivan and the others had done more than enough for her and had been considerate enough; she did not wish to put any more pressure on them.

As for the King of the Long Sky, no matter what the Wind Ancestor might think, she did not have the face to ask for his help now.

This was a conviction deep within her, one of the few she had left, and she could not give it all up.

Not many days passed before Tanaya was approached by her family again, this time by one of the elders with whom she had a closer relationship. The elder did not come to pick a fight but to specifically inform her that the Fitzgerald family had already sent someone over.

And the Gardner family was discussing who to send, under the pretext of Mara Gardner’s prolonged absence.

Tanaya knew the score. It wasn’t that Mara had been without news, but that the reports sent back were mostly trivial and lacked substantial value; indeed, such reports could incite suspicion.

After some thought, Tanaya quietly informed Hotter, without disturbing the busy Ivan.

Time flew, and the research on the Town Recall Scrolls had been underway for over twenty days.

With Ivan and his companions working tirelessly, the simplified version of the first phase of the project finally took shape and was in the final stages of testing and adjustment.

“Locke, my dear good brother—-”

“Morris, can you not talk like that? It gives me the chills, you know?”

“Cough cough, do you think it’ll be your turn this time?”

“Possibly.”

“I really want to see you in action. When the time comes, you’ll be the center of attention, everyone’s hopes will be pinned on you, everyone will celebrate for you. Just thinking about it gets my blood pumping.”

“Why don’t you go? Seems to me you’re just reveling in my misfortune.”

“Nonsense, you’re my brother—”

Off to one side of the field, Locke and Morris huddled together, muttering something.

Strangely enough, despite having known each other just a few days, they had become quite chummy, often addressing each other as brothers.

Actually, it wasn’t that strange after all. Both Locke and Morris had boisterous personalities and loved to make a splash. With Ivan in the mix, the two were like peas in a pod, often loafing around in corners together.

Under their observation, the research had reached a critical moment, requiring repetitive testing and incremental adjustments based on the results.

So far, under Ivan’s command, the ant sentinels had taken their turns, as had the shadow blood guards, and not just once.

Likewise, creatures under other sorcerers had participated in the tests.

Large Towers, small Towers.

Bright Towers, Dark Base Towers.

And so on—numerous special devices constituted the vast facility that had undergone many adjustments. The structure was becoming increasingly stable and refined, and the anticipation in the sorcerers’ hearts grew.

“Locke.” Ivan waved him over.

“Boss, it’s my turn.” Locke flashed to his side, rubbing his hands together eagerly.

“You know the procedure, right?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ve watched it so many times I’ve got it down.”

“Then, off you go.”

Ivan didn’t give much in the way of explanation, casually passing him a strange Token. As he said, the entire testing procedure wasn’t complex; one or two viewings made everything clear.

Locke took the Token without hesitation.

It was an oddly shaped Token, a metal plate the size of a palm with a Crystal Ball crudely inserted into it, seemingly placed at random. The surrounding metal plate distributed unevenly.

Both the Token and the Crystal Ball, inside and out, were engraved with dense runes lines that seemed chaotic at first glance.

This thing lacked aesthetic appeal but its significance was far from small; tantamount to the Light Order that acts as a beacon, as well as the scroll from the Town Recall Scroll, it was the product of considerable effort by Ivan and his associates.

“Ladies and gentlemen, perk up and watch closely.”

“Don’t worry, Scholar, our eyes have been wide open and our Spirits high.”

After some time together, whether they were originally familiar with Ivan or not, they had come to trust him completely.

This great scholar’s depth and breadth of knowledge in space were indeed breathtaking, fitting for the one who initiated research into the ‘Town Recall Scroll’.

As they spoke, Locke, holding the peculiar Token, took a few steps to the outer side of the entire facility. He was precisely one thousand meters from the Large Tower in the center and only four hundred meters from one of the small Towers out in the open.

From this distance, he gestured towards the central location of the Large Tower.

This relatively large Tower wasn’t very tall, standing less than five meters high. It was inconspicuous within the exploration area but represented the most significant investment of both time and effort by the sorcerers over these days, consuming countless brain cells.

Inside the Large Tower, three sorcerers stood guard, ready for action.

“Click!”

Locke activated the Token in his hand, which exploded with formidable power. A force burst from it, enveloping his body, and quickly formed a spherical protective layer around him.

The protective layer ensconced him completely, leaving no gaps on any side.

At the same time, the nearest small Tower responded in some way, sending out a special signal that quickly traveled through the other nearby small Towers to the Large Tower.

Inside the Large Tower, at the right moment and location, one of the sorcerers activated a certain spatial node on the Tower.

Even more tremendous power burst forth from inside the Large Tower, extending through the spatial weave, and then formed a narrow spatial corridor across the sky, bridging one Tower to another.

Meanwhile, Locke was pulled into the spatial corridor by some force, taking both him and his protective layer with him, vanishing into it.

In the blink of an eye, Locke emerged at the other side, from the central Large Tower, and landed.

“Teleportation successful!”

Locke couldn’t wait to shout out loud, drawing applause from the surrounding sorcerers.

Ivan too clapped, signaling approval. His heart wasn’t exceptionally jubilant; he was just trying to avoid dampening spirits.

Currently, this device obviously required ‘dialing in’; it wasn’t very sophisticated.

When the time came for him to go through personally and pass the test, he would declare the first phase basically a success. He planned to make further improvements and refine the system, eliminating these inconveniences.
