“Thank you, thank you… It was fine, there were barely any monsters. I beat an Orichalcum Golem though, with one punch if you’re curious.”

“Wow, really?!”

“Incredible!”

“Amazing!”

“Wait, what are Orichalcum Golems?”

“They’re powerful indestructible golems made by the gods!”

“Oooh!”

The people of the Oasis Village, who were usually quite reserved, acted like children meeting their idol in front of the heroes. It was a strange sight to behold for sure, especially because of how secretive, silent, and serious they can usually be.

As they walked past the people, they made their way to the chief’s large house, finding Aquarina in there, cooking dozens of giants, red-colored insect legs, they looked dark red and black, and were releasing a smoky scent.

“Heeey! Mom! Dad! You’re finally back! Just in time for dinner!”

As she called for them, her parents looked slightly stiff…

“W-What is this brat doing now?!” Her mother gasped in disbelief. “You’re cooking bugs in front of these people?!”

“E-Eh? What’s wrong?” Aquarina was shocked as her mother ran to her side to reprimand her.

“Don’t you think that’s gross? These people welcomed us, and you start cooking gross stuff in front of them!” Nepheline reprimanded her even more.

“W-Wait I just wanted to taste these ants!” Aquarina complained angrily. “I hunted them down from a huge nest of Giant Fire Ants! And Agua’s mom congratulated me for that and said I could hunt the other nests, they’re an invasive species! It’s like a big win for them to do this, you know?”

“Hmmm…” Nepheline glared at her daughter while crossing her big burly arms. “Fine… But get done with it already, girl! Are you going to roast all the ants?”

“J-Just these! They’re done already anyway,” Aquarina quickly turned off the fire and placed a table in front of her, where she chopped the Giant Fire Ant legs. “Let’s see…”

As she chopped them, tender reddish white meat could be seen inside of them, smoky juices coming out of it.

She smelled a part and using her hand, she scooped he meat out, which was incredibly soft.

“Nom… Nom, hmm…”

She started tasting the meat, it was surprisingly flaky and also had a lot of flavors. It was a bit citric, sweet, and smoky, with a bitter aftertaste.

However, if she poured some sauce on top, they would be perfect!

“Oh they’re good! I never imagined ant meat would be tasty! They’re usually so small you cant really see any meat inside,” Aquarina said. “Here, taste!”

“Hmm?” Nepheline wasn’t disgusted, she had eaten worse things, quickly biting on the bug’s leg, with exoskeleton and everything.

Crunch, crunch, crunch…

Her incredibly tough teeth allowed her to easily tear through the ant’s meat and exoskeleton, helping her mix the flavors and textures to a new level!

“Oh wow…”

After she swallowed, Nepheline blushed a bit.

It was that tasty!

“See?!”

Aquarina quickly gave some to her dad.

“A-Ahh… Uh…”

He seemed a bit reluctant to taste it though, people often perceived bugs completely different than crustaceans when they were almost the same thing.

Or at least Aquarina thought that.

Any scientific would tell her that they were completely different, separated clades of invertebrates with millions of years apart from one another and so on…

“Come on dad! Give it a go! I cooked it just for you!”

Shade sighed as he saw his daughter insisting.

Could he really reject her when she said that?

He was a very weak towards his daughter, even when she looked all grown up now, to him she was still an adorable baby girl.

“Fine… I guess I’ve eaten worse things too. When I was a child they forced me to eat a hundred different poisonous animals, mostly bugs, to gain immunity to all poisons. It was a ritual to become stronger,” explained Shade. “I had nightmares about bugs eating me from the inside out for years after that.”

As he said that with a straight face, making his daughter make a terrified face, Shade started biting, surprised of the flavor.

“Oh… I suppose when bugs become enormous, they can develop tasty meat, huh? Who would have known- What?” he realized Aquarina and even Nepheline were glaring at him with pity.

“I’m sorry for what happened in your childhood, dad…” Aquarina hugged him and patted his back.

“You never told me about this!” Nepheline said, hugging him as well.

“A-Ah…” Shade felt embarrassed. “I never thought it was that bad? I mean, I only remember it with fondness now.”

“With fondness?!” Aquarina asked.

“Shade… We might have to have a talk,” Nepheline sighed.

“Uh, don’t worry. We should just eat dinner,” Shade sighed, the bad thing about having only females in his family was that they were a bit overdramatic sometimes, compared to men.

He secretly hoped the next kid will be a boy…

Once they made their way inside the house, they greeted the chief, and while having a delicious meal with the food that the Oasis people prepared, which consisted of a lot of fish, crabs, shrimps, seaweed and boiled seeds, they talked about their findings.

“THERE’S A CITY UNDERWATER?!”

The chief, Agua, Aquarina, Silvia, Justicio, Khepri, Undine, and even Leviathan were shocked! The latter, however, only made a surprised face copying the rest.

“C-Calm down please…” Nepheline sighed. “It’s complicated.”

“Yeah, very,” Shade said. “There’s a lot of people living there too, Sea Snail-like people with bright shells. They say they come from the past…”

“T-The past?” The chief asked. “Wait a moment, you said people?! So there’s people living inside that dungeon? They appeared because of the dungeon or moved there on their own?”

“That’s one of the mysteries,” Nepheline explained. “We don’t really know for sure what is going on over there, so we want to find out and see what we can do… hopefully we can understand the situation. But the whole-time traveling shenanigan is not something I’ll ever believe.”

“Me neither,” Shade said. “For now, however, they seem to pose no threat, and are living peacefully on their own… We were considering asking the great Oasis Spirit about them, however.”

“The Oasis Spirit could know something, yes… Ah right! The ritual should be in an hour from now, get ready everyone, especially Agua.”

“Yes, mother.”

Agua was nervous, but she had already made up her mind.
