—System Announcement: Congratulations to player “Codename Dark Blue for obtaining first clear of Hero-Level Commander Mona! She is rewarded with 2,250,000 EXP, 50 gold coins, and an additional Free Stat Point!
...
Lin Jie was Savage Blade’s leader and also the number one DPS. The system AI had evaluated him as the best player, which was why he had gotten an additional stat point more than the rest. The reward for the first clear of the Boss was abundant. There were 2,000 gold coins alone for the entire team! Lin Jie did not keep any of these gold coins and exchanged them all for real-life currency!
As their levels increased, the abilities of players to collect gold coins increased. It was a very mysterious stage now. The gold production had greatly increased now that everybody could collect tons of coins on a daily basis. However, there was also a greater demand for gold coins since a large number of precious materials and equipment were needed for job advancements and missions. As such, they formed this weak supply and demand chain in the game. The exchange rate for the in-game currency had maintained at 1 gold coin to 100 dollars in real life for a long time. Merchants with foresight had all started to sell away their in-game currency.
After the frenzy of job advancement was over, the value of the in-game currency would drop drastically.
Kaboom—
After Mona was dead, the sky shattered into pieces. The surroundings were finally revealed to be a giant prison! This prison was where they kept these “Knights”, everything was an illusion!
Mona’s reign as “king” ended here in this dim prison.
“This is—” Nobody had the time to react. It was a vast wasteland just before this, how did it suddenly become like that?
None of this was a surprise for Lin Jie. The illusion of the surroundings, change in the situation, and development of the story... were all because of the progress in the plot dungeon. This prison was Holy Light Temple’s last map! Now, on the map were two skull symbols and a dragon head symbol. This was where the Boss was located.
Inksnow curled up her loose hair and stuffed them into her helmet. She looked around cautiously and asked in shock, “Three symbols? Could it be, all the Bosses are in this map?”
“That’s right, this is the last map of Holy Light Temple, Devils’ Prison,” said Lin Jie as he observed the surroundings.
Netherblue was stunned. “Devils’ Prison? I thought that was the map of the last Boss, it appeared sooner than expected! I heard that the Devils’ Prison is where the last boss resides. There are no monsters inside. Instead, there are many secret doors. In order to pass through these doors, we would have to fulfill dozens of strange requirements.”
The last map, Devils’ Prison!
This was the place where devils hunted for fun. Other than the last Boss in the heart of the map, there were two other Bosses, one in the south and the other in the north. It was not easy to reach the Boss. They would have to pass through over 50 doors and spend at least three hours doing so. If they were not careful, they might end up spending more time.
“Let’s split into two groups with at least one of each job just in case there are doors with job restrictions.” Lin Jie thought for a while and said, “The requirements to open a door are random. Most of them are rune doors that require a certain level of stat points while the other locks would mostly be opened by Star Kill. The team that runs into a special locked door will report to the other, and we’ll switch team members at any time if needed.”
There were all sorts of doors in Devils’ Prison, and the paths were all completely random as well. Even Lin Jie could not guarantee that they could reach the Boss in the shortest time possible in this place where there were full of traps in every corner.
The two teams were led by Lin Jie and Baili Changcheng, respectively, and they went their own ways.
Splash—
Devils’ Prison was dark and humid, and the sounds of footsteps and water droplets echoing sent shivers down their spines.
“Ahh!” Bu Yi’s face turned pale as she took a step back. Her fingers trembled as she pointed at the corpse in front of her.
Ziliang laughed. “Don’t be scared, Little Sis Bu Yi. It’s normal for a prison to have a few corpses... f*ck, what is that strong smell?”
In the prison, there were three dried up corpses. From the shapes of these corpses, one could tell that they belonged to an adult and two children that were not humans. The adult’s body was mangled, quite clearly that it was devoured by its own children... it was a cruel sight. No wonder Bu Yi was frightened!
“Hehe, the architect of this place must have set this to prevent players from splitting up, I guess. Hahaha...” The moment Lin Jie spoke, the members rolled their eyes. He was still making jokes in such a situation.
Lin Jie brushed everything off with a peal of laughter. He went up to the three corpses and searched their bodies. A little key dropped out.
[Devils’ Prison Key]: Can open any door in Devils’ Prison, can only be used once.
“Look, it’s a battle item. We should search the corpses often, there may be additional rewards...” Lin Jie squeezed the key in his hand as he was about to share the news happily with his team. Unexpectedly, the moment he held the key, everyone shrieked and took a step back in unison, and giving him a strange look.
“Could it be you are a surgeon in real life?”
“Can you at least look a little disturbed? Even if your mental fortitude is maxed, please have some normal human reaction!”
“Man, you’re too impressive. I can’t be compared to you.”
Lin Jie shrugged. He did not expect himself to cause such a big reaction. Lin Jie’s mental fortitude had always been really strong for the longest time. He was a level above others, so these corpses were nothing but a bunch of useful dead bodies. What was there to be afraid of?
Not far off in front, there was a door with a sinister-looking devil carved into it. There was a missionary in a black robe and all sorts of devil slaves. In the heart of the door was a dark rune.
—”You’ve come in contact with a rune lock. Your Strength must be greater than 500 points to unlock it.”
“Stat requirements” were needed to unlock a rune door. Lin Jie was a Berserker with high-grade equipment. His Strength had reached 500 for a long time now. He held out his hand and placed it on the rune. The rune gave out a glow of light, and a hole formed in the door in an instant. There was a loud, booming sound as it slowly opened.
Inside was a silver-grade treasure chest.
After opening a door, there was a chance of either a treasure chest or trap being spawned. If a treasure chest appeared, it meant that they would not run into other dangers.
—”You opened a treasure chest and received two Devils’ Fruits.”
[Devils’ Fruit]: Food. Recovers both health and mana by 1,200 points over 15 seconds. After 12 seconds, mana capacity is increased by 10% for 20 minutes.
“Just two small little things. Bu Yi, you can have them.” Lin Jie did not think much and gave them to her. The first door was easy to pass, and everybody was relaxed.
However, there was trouble at Baili Changcheng’s side—they had to deal over 3,000 points of damage without using any skills.
It was already difficult for everybody there to deal 3,000 points of damage under normal conditions. How could they do it without skills now? With no other choice, Baili Changcheng had to call Lin Jie over.
“Wait for me.” Lin Jie gave the keys to his teammates and headed towards Baili Changcheng’s door.
“Remember, unless there is a treasure chest in the room, you must take a detour! Distance is not a problem!” Lin Jie warned before leaving.
This was the second disgusting part about Devils’ Prison: the requirements were high, and there was constantly a need for members to switch teams or change equipment. There were a lot of times teammates would have to remove their equipment for another to wear in order to remove the runes.
In Lin Jie’s previous life, there had been a ridiculous situation: the rune required “over 900 Agility”, and everyone in a huge team of 39 had to remove the Dark Gold equipment with the highest Agility stats on them for a Bandit to wear. Afterward, the Bandit had gone offline without saying anything. Only after six months, did he come online and sold everything before disappearing for good.
The trust between people was the biggest obstacle.
Fortunately, this was not a problem for Savage Blade. Those who managed to join Savage Blade were definitely trustworthy. Lin Jie was not foolish enough to let just anyone join.
Their luck was pretty good this time round. After many troublesome switches and movements, they all arrived at the last door to the Boss in five and a half hours.
The two Bosses in the north and south had the same rune lock.
—”You’ve come into contact with a rune lock. You must deal over 10,000 points of damage to unlock it.”
“Phew, such good luck.” Lin Jie heaved a sigh of relief. If it was like in his previous life, which required “over 6,000 points of magic damage”, he would have cried. 10,000 points of damage was a piece of cake for Lin Jie. It took one Blade Aura, and the door was unlocked.
“Morais, is that you?”
A murmur came from inside the door, and a graceful body appeared in front of them. Standing there was a 2.2-meters tall woman with a short bob and red lips. She had beautiful facial features and was dressed explicitly. She had on clothes that resembled a bikini, which wrapped around her body tightly, and revealed her fair and slender legs. The only flaw about this woman was that she was too tall!
The fourth Boss, Deputy Chief Procurator Aneira!
However, the Boss’ name was in yellow, which meant that she would not attack players actively.
Aneira looked at Lin Jie with warmth and smiled at his powerful team. “Greetings, my dear friends. I know your goal is to kill me, and I have no choice but to fight for my life. But before this, I would like you all to fulfill a wish of mine.
“You are all good-natured, unlike those other cold-blooded people since you were willing to respect Mona’s dead body. That poor young man, I’ve warned him not to waste his efforts. Dear friends, I would like to thank you all on behalf of the dead, which is why I have not attacked you.”
“My beloved, Morais... is on the other side of Devils’ Prison. If you are willing to bring me to him, I promise to give you a chance to revive during our fight.”
