"What VIP level are you at the Imperial Auction House?" Vanessa asked with curiosity.

“VIP7,” Taurus replied casually. “I’ll be VIP8 soon.”

"That’s impressive," Vanessa exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise. From her guild’s intel, Vanessa knew that the Imperial Auction House’s VIP system had nine tiers, each more exclusive than the last.

Reaching rank seven was already a remarkable feat. Especially considering that the auction house had only begun operations recently.

It was clear Taurus hadn’t achieved that rank solely by spending points.

‘This guy really spared no expense…’ Vanessa thought with a sigh. She couldn’t imagine spending that much money herself.

Still, spending money came with its perks. Wealthy people often spent money to save time and gain exclusive privileges.

Taurus had invested far more than other guild masters but ironically spent less overall due to certain advantages. This was thanks to the excellent discount system available to high-ranking VIPs.

“Vanessa, are you free to join us at the auction this afternoon? I’m VIP7, which means I can bring three guests,” Taurus said nonchalantly, though a glint of pride shone in his eyes.

Having grown up in a family full of shrewd individuals, Vanessa instantly recognized his subtle attempt to brag. Under normal circumstances, she would have declined. However, her curiosity about the auction got the better of her, and she agreed.

After a brief round of small talk, it was nearly time for the auction to begin.

“Let’s go,” Taurus said, rising from his seat with an air of calm authority.

As a high-ranking VIP, he didn’t have to worry about securing a seat. Even if he arrived late, his seat would remain reserved. Such was the privilege of being a VIP7.

They strolled leisurely from the Adventurers’ Guild to the Imperial Auction House. Before they could even enter, a high-ranking receptionist recognized Taurus and promptly escorted him upstairs.

Vanessa and S.K.Y. trailed behind him.

‘Wow, it must be great to be a high-ranked VIP. Should I try to become one too?’ Vanessa pondered.

In the real world, Vanessa was treated like a VVIP everywhere she went. But in the game, she was practically a nobody. The NPCs didn’t give her any special treatment just because she was beautiful.

In fact, as an outsider with the lowest social status in Jade City, she was often subjected to random discrimination. For wealthy and influential people like her, this treatment was almost unbearable.

If the game weren’t so incredibly captivating, most of them would have abandoned it by now.

Not long ago, many players had expressed similar sentiments on the forums. However, no matter how much they ranted and swore to quit—be it metaphorically "jumping off a bridge" or "dying on the streets"—

In the end, they would always come crawling back, singing the game’s praises once more. After all, this was the world’s only full-dive virtual reality game—uniquely immersive and utterly irresistible.

As soon as they settled into their VIP seats, the auction commenced without delay. The auction began by putting a large variety of resources on the block.

Without saying a word, Taurus swiftly claimed all the available resources.

Vanessa was both impressed by Taurus’ spending power and slightly taken aback.

‘Strange… Why would the Zhang Family allocate him so much money just to play a game? Could there be something more to this game?’

From what she knew, the Zhang Family was strictly driven by profit. They never invested a cent unless it promised a substantial return.

Watching Taurus snatch up every item with ease, Vanessa grew increasingly perplexed.

‘If I remember correctly, hasn’t he already spent hundreds of millions? How much funding did the Zhang Family give him?’

She was completely in the dark about the Zhang Family’s intentions.

‘I’ll need to bring this up with my mother once I log off,’ Vanessa resolved silently.

Vanessa’s mother currently held the position of matriarch in the Yang Family, though Vanessa was slated to inherit the role in a few years.

Vanessa had already assumed control of several key family matters, effectively positioning herself as the heir. In terms of influence within her family, she wielded far more authority than Taurus.

Taurus soon spent an additional 450,000 to acquire three pieces of Rare Equipment, leaving the onlookers stunned by his immense wealth.

It was evident that the auction had turned into Taurus’ personal showcase.

‘This feels incredible! Absolutely incredible!’

Basking in the attention and envy of the crowd, Taurus felt so euphoric it was as though he might float off the ground. All the anger and frustration that had plagued him earlier evaporated as he spent freely.

Compared to how he’d been before Vanessa arrived, Taurus now seemed like a completely different person. His eyes sparkled, and he radiated pure delight. His mind also felt clearer, unclouded by resentment.

‘Black-hearted Princess, in two days, we’ll settle this once and for all,’ he thought coldly. His thoughts were as clear as a polished mirror, and his gaze sharpened with an almost prophetic intensity.

At that moment, Taurus exuded the presence of a seasoned ruler—wise, confident, and commanding respect. Vanessa was taken aback.

‘Why has his demeanor changed so drastically?’

It was as if she were witnessing a complete transformation unfold before her very eyes.

‘Is this really the same foolish Taurus Zhang I used to know?’

Vanessa had always considered Taurus a fool, even though she was aware of his infatuation with her.

S.K.Y. frowned deeply as he noticed subtle changes in Taurus’ demeanor, a feeling of unease creeping over him. He couldn’t pinpoint the reason, but something about Taurus unsettled him, filling him with a vague sense of repulsion.

The auction proceeded smoothly and in an orderly fashion. Several of the items up for auction today were unexpected surprises.

To those uninformed, it might seem as though the auction house was liquidating all its assets in preparation to close down.

Meanwhile, the outer districts of Jade City were eerily silent, with all guards having returned to their posts. It was as though the earlier city-wide lockdowns and exhaustive searches had been nothing but a fleeting illusion.

Curious merchants peeked out from their stalls, glancing around and finding no sign of any soldiers. Similarly, residents cautiously leaned out their windows, their eyes scanning for guards but finding none.

Within a grand mansion located in the inner-city district…

Commander Blei paced anxiously around the expansive main hall, his face tense with worry. His agitation stemmed from a troubling piece of information he had received moments earlier.

The Emperor was set to return to Jade City very soon!

‘I'm doomed… absolutely doomed!’ Blei thought, clenching his fists tightly, pacing like an ant on a hot pan.

Richard had tasked him with capturing Alicia, an order that still loomed over him. Yet, to this day, Blei had failed to locate Alicia, let alone capture her. It was a complete and humiliating failure!

He could already envision Richard’s livid and terrifying expression. The consequences would undoubtedly be catastrophic.

Blei knew that he would be the one to face the full brunt of Richard’s wrath, and the thought filled him with terror.

‘What do I do? What do I do?! Can someone, anyone, tell me what to do?!’

At present, he had only one tenuous lead on Alicia’s whereabouts. But that lead—Black-hearted Princess—was under Lili’s protection, making any action impossible.

In fact, he had given up entirely about ten minutes ago, ordering his soldiers to stand down. Now, all he could do was leave his fate in the hands of the heavens.

‘God, please have mercy on me!’

At this point, his concern for Alicia’s capture had been entirely overshadowed by fear for his own fate. Once Richard handed down his punishment, Blei knew he would either face death or something equally horrifying…

"There’s no way I’ll get out of this alive. Ugh… my life is just pure misery," Blei muttered hopelessly, gazing up at the ceiling.

While he might be spared from execution, the punishment he would face would undoubtedly be severe.

Meanwhile, inside the Cathedral of Light…

"Sob… This is incredible! The sisters finally reconciled!" Irene exclaimed, wiping away her tears in a rush of excitement.

Alicia's novel had completely moved her, leaving her overwhelmed with emotion.

The steamy scenes in the novel didn’t embarrass her; instead, they enriched the narrative, elevating the entire story. Truly, this was art!

Yaeger lay on her side with a dazed expression, lost in thought. Yet, deep within, her heart was shaken. This was far from being an ordinary lewd novel. In fact, explicit scenes were scarce, serving more as subtle embellishments than focal points.

Alicia had masterfully woven a narrative set in a world both cruel and occasionally tender, her writing alternating between harsh realism and gentle sentimentality.

After hearing the first half of the novel, Yaeger found herself captivated by the fate of the two sisters, fully immersed in their journey. She also admired the brutal authenticity of the world Alicia had crafted.

‘What a harsh and realistic world… How could impoverished families ever stand against the wealthy elite?’

She eagerly anticipated the second half of the story. She yearned to discover whether the powerless sisters could defy their cruel fate and find happiness together.

"Sob…" Irene wiped her tears, her emotions still raw.

Yaeger didn’t press her to continue. It was better to let her process the emotional weight of the moment.

After a few moments, Irene composed herself and spoke awkwardly, "You… You saw me in an embarrassing state."

"No, I think you're quite adorable and empathetic," Yaeger said softly, stroking Irene’s hair with a gentle smile.

Irene’s face flushed red upon hearing the compliment, though her heart fluttered with joy.

"I’ll keep reading, Princess," she murmured, nervously pursing her lips and avoiding eye contact as she glanced back at the novel on her bed.

‘I feel so happy…’

It was unexpectedly pleasant to share a story with someone else—something Irene had never experienced before.

"Yeah, let’s continue," Yaeger said as she leaned closer to read alongside her.

"Alright… Here we go!" Irene stammered nervously.

But after a few sentences, she lost herself in Alicia’s story, completely forgetting the beautiful presence beside her.

Meanwhile, the lengthy auction had finally come to a close.

Taurus strode out triumphantly, leading the way with an air of pride.

After the guests departed, the auction house staff began packing up their belongings.

The staff had received an internal notice stating that the auction house would suspend operations for a few days to undergo restructuring. Though puzzled by the announcement, the staff welcomed their paid time off, their salaries already deposited in advance.

As a result, the mood was more celebratory than inquisitive.

Twenty minutes later, the Imperial Auction House officially shut its doors.

On the third floor, Kastina lounged on a sofa, gazing absentmindedly at the high ceiling. At that moment, Kastina radiated energy and joy, as though revitalized by pure life essence.

"It’s almost over," she murmured. She lowered her gaze, a hint of reluctance in her voice.

At that moment, the massive teleportation formation within Jade City’s castle flared with white light, radiating intense spatial energy.

In the next instant, a pitch-black army materialized. The Emperor, Richard, had returned to Jade City.
