Chapter 1412: A dutiful wife

“Alex, I am seriously going to kill you. The next pearl is mine. Fuck. We should at least keep some pearls for the event. What the hell are you doing? What the hell are we doing? Bro will be mad if we screwed up this event. You are going to make us lose!” Rey shouted as he watched Alex gobble up the twenty-fifth pearl.

Alex paused mid-chew, her eyes widening in mock surprise as Rey ranted. “Oh, come on, little bro,” she drawled, wiping a stray bit of pearl residue from her lips. “You know I’m doing this for us. More power means more options—and trust me, I’m not just eating them for the hell of it.”

Rey’s face contorted with equal parts fury and disbelief. “More options? What options? We’re supposed to be winning this event. Bro, he is gonna flip out and divorce you, you crazy woman!”

Alex scoffed, floating closer with a half-smirk. “Look, genius, the pearls aren’t just points—they’re our secret weapon. If we’re gonna survive the next wave of bullshit, we need the firepower. And besides, if we play it safe, we’re just another bunch of wimps waiting to be ambushed. I’m doing this for our future victory!”

Rey shook his head, frustration mingling with reluctant admiration. “You’re seriously insane.”

She flashed him a mischievous grin. “Relax, bro. We’ll figure it out. Think of it as investing in our own badassery. Once I’m fully powered up, we’ll hit the next stage so hard they won’t know what hit ’em.”

Rey muttered under his breath, “Damn, Alex… One of these days, you’re gonna get us into trouble, and I swear—”

“—I’ll save you from that trouble,” Alex interrupted, playfully elbowing him. “Just trust me, alright? Now, enough bitching—let’s move before the next wave of idiots shows up. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll save a pearl for you next time.”

“Was that not enough for a breakthrough?” Rolling his eyes with a reluctant smile, Rey sighed and adjusted his grip on his spear. “Yeah, yeah. Let’s roll, sis. Just don’t make a habit of devouring our future wins.”

Alex let out an equally loud sigh. “When are you going to get it? Only a naive idiot would save every single pearl they came across!”

“Sis! Sis!” Rey suddenly called out with a shocked expression.

“What?” Alex grumbled. These pearls were making her crazy. It was as if she was on the verge of something, but she just needed an extra push. “Did you spot more pearls?” she spat out.

“Hell, ya! Look there! Look at that glow! There are a lot of pearls in there, and the glow is white, which means they haven’t been consumed yet. We have hit the jackpot!”

Alex stared dumbfoundedly for a moment before she laughed like a manic villain. “We have hit the motherlode of stupid. Come on. Let’s go and take those before someone else snatches them.”

Clearly, they were not the only ones eying the prize. Alex and Rey could already spot a lot of monsters gathering in the region.

And just as they pulled in they also saw a pair of red cloaks. These men had blood-red eyes and reeked of blood mana.

“Vampires!” Alex hissed. They had finally run into the opposition. The treasure hunt even started with the four clashing factions starting in their own corner, but it looked like everyone had started to wander into the enemy territory.

“No, Alex look.” Rey pointed to the woman who was clutching all those pearls. “Ah, damn it.”

Alex was equally shocked. It turned out that the naive and stupid were their own naive and stupid. Shen Yue and Mei Mei both were frozen solid as they stared at the insane amount of killing aura directed at them.

Of course, the next second, a loud roar erupted as an azure serpent popped out from somewhere, creating a barrier of water around the two, not letting anyone near them. This was followed by a barrage of ice spears shooting out of the barrier.

“Hiltha is here.” Alex smiled, shaking her head. Hiltha was the ice elemental spirit Mei Mei had bound to. It was too bad that of all the naive idiots they could run into, this group had run into this particular duo. The two might be a little slow on some things but they were sure as shit not weak.

Alex and Rey did not have to intervene at all as they watched the ice elemental spirit and the legendary tier azure serpent handle everything. The serpent basically snacked on all the monster fishes without leaving them any chance for escape.

As for the vampires, they decided that it was better for them to run for the time being. This was where Alex stepped in. “I did not allow you two to leave.”

[Divine Calling]

A pillar made of divine light shot up from the depths of the ocean waters, extending all the way to god knows where. Chains erupted from the pillar and shackled the two vampires, completely arresting them.

“I had a little theory,” Alex spoke as she swam toward them. “If I kill you, will you spit out the pearls you already ate?”

The two vampires looked at her in fear. “We are the Fourth Lord’s men. You should know better than to touch us. Leave us this instant, and we shall forget all enmity and grant you—” one of the vampires stammered, his voice low and venomous, his eyes darting nervously as the divine chains pulsed with celestial fire. The other one was trying very hard to break free, but he just couldn’t.

Alex’s gaze hardened, and she scoffed. “Grant me what? Your sorry excuses? I’m not here to negotiate with spineless leeches. Besides, if you knew who my husband was… you will shit your pants. Die.”

The two vampires couldn’t even put up a fight as their bodies drifted away lifelessly in the ocean. Naturally, Alex did not let those bodies go to waste. As a dutiful wife, she saved every body in her spatial ring.
