“Ah!”
“Ah!”
The harrowing screams rose one after another, spilling out from within the room.
The subordinates outside naturally heard their emperor’s anguished cries. They hurriedly grabbed their weapons and rushed in, only to see the Former Sovereign Emperor beaten so badly he was unrecognizable, along with their other comrades.
“Your Majesty?”
As the long blades were drawn from the guards’ waists, one of the squad leaders, visibly enraged, pointed his blade directly at the Paper Person.
“I’ve come to rescue you, Your Majesty! Arrest this man!”
He barked orders to the guards behind him, and in the next moment, everyone lunged toward the Paper Person. Meanwhile, the squad leader moved over to the little baby, intending to capture him.
It was obvious that this man was in cahoots with the little baby. As long as they captured the little baby, wouldn’t this man be forced to tread carefully?
But before he could even get close to Little Nuonuo, he was sent flying by a single kick.
It was the Paper Person.
Although he was preoccupied with fighting, as Little Nuonuo’s paper guardian, his first priority was to ensure the safety of his charge.
Thus, no one was allowed near Little Nuonuo. Anyone attempting to harm Little Nuonuo would suffer dire consequences. The result was clear: the squad leader was instantly kicked out of the room, landing heavily on the ground outside.
“Ah!”
The man who was kicked out let out a pained scream, loud enough for nearly everyone in the courtyard to take notice.
Next, the Former Sovereign Emperor watched as the Paper Person picked up the little baby, cradling him protectively in his arms, all while battling the guards with his limbs.
In mere moments, the guards were sprawled across the ground, utterly defeated. Not a single one had even so much as touched the Paper Person’s clothing.
And so, he couldn’t help but wonder why he ever brought this little monster here in the first place. Had he not essentially set himself up for disaster? He could already foresee the High Priest Demon Heart leading his forces toward this very location.
“Retreat, retreat at once.”
He no longer wished to deal with this maddening child. How could such a tiny child make him look so utterly miserable? It defied all logic.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
A few guards groaned as they dragged themselves up from the ground. In contorted postures, they limped over to the Former Sovereign Emperor, supporting him as they prepared to escape.
There was a secret passageway in the room; as long as they left through it, they would be safe.
But would the Paper Person permit them the opportunity?
“Fight them, fight them! Bad guys are running away—catch them!” Little Nuonuo yelled, pointing toward the direction of the Former Sovereign Emperor.
The Paper Person immediately leapt forward, one arm holding the little baby while the other reached out, grabbing the collar of the Former Sovereign Emperor and hauling him over with ease. As for the other guards who had tried to escape, each received a single decisive kick, instantly rendered unconscious.
With a casual flick of his large hand, the Former Sovereign Emperor was hurled out to the courtyard outside the house.
A few more guards, originally stationed outside, saw someone being thrown out. Thinking it was one of their comrades, they rushed over to help him up, only to realize the person lying there was dressed differently from their own brethren. It wasn’t a comrade—it was the emperor.
No wonder they hadn’t recognized him. The Paper Person had beaten his face so badly and thrown him around so many times.
At this rate, even the New Sovereign Emperor probably wouldn’t recognize him.
“Y-Your Majesty?!”
“Go! Get moving!”
The Former Sovereign Emperor could no longer afford to care about how disheveled he looked. All he wanted at that moment was to flee.
If he stayed here any longer, he would undoubtedly be captured by the High Priest Demon Heart’s approaching forces. He couldn’t afford to meet that fate. He had a grand plan waiting for him to accomplish!
