A month had already passed away in the Shadowzone. The plan to clear it in 15 days has already gone to shit as the monster number was overwhelming.
As the sun flashed above the horizon, casting a golden glow across the rugged landscape, the base camp bustled with activity.
Soldiers moved steadily in an orderly manner, their boots kicking up dust as they hurried to their posts. Watchguards stood vigilant atop the towering wooden walls, their eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of trouble.
In the heart of the camp, the dungeon gate loomed imposingly, swirling like a vortex while bathing in the fading light.
Around it, the towers stood sentinel, their metal frames glinting in the last rays of sunlight.
Engineers tinkered with the intricate mechanisms, ensuring that each tower was ready to send and receive signals at a moment's notice.
The tower would send frequency signals through the gate that would be received by the towers outside.
Commanders barked orders, their voices cutting through the evening air as final preparations were made for the battles ahead.
At night torches were lit along the perimeter, casting flickering shadows on the ground below.
Scouts returned from their patrols, reporting back on enemy movements and potential threats.Amidst the organized chaos, a sense of fear and horror permeated the air.
This base camp was not just a stronghold; it was a lifeline, connecting distant outposts and providing a crucial link in the chain of communication to the outside world while serving as a line of defense against the monster from invading their world.
However, despite the motivational speeches, a deadly and bleak atmosphere prevailed in the camp. Even those who managed to reach here, out of them many were injured, some lost their limbs, some their eyesight, and half of them were already dead.
As for the monster side, it didn't look as if death matters to them.
"Except our three corps, all other teams had suffered badly," Ian muttered with a sad look.
"We might have also suffered like this if Leon didn't warn us when we arrived first," Sander spoke solemnly.
"We would be dead, "Vikram muttered, giving everyone a shiver.
The memories of his death resurfaced once again making Leon drown in them.
'If I didn't make a comeback many of them would be dead by now. Each move of mine has many consequences.'
Leon was once again weighed down by weight over his shoulder. One can be carefree if his decision only affects him but it changes when it starts to affect others.
His every regression might affect the lives of thousands if not millions.
As the group chatted, a messenger shouted.
"Soldier Ian!"
"It's me?"Ian shouted, hearing his name.
"You have granted the permission to call."
"What?Really?"Ian jumped in happiness.
"Who are you going to talk to? Your girl?"Sander smacked his lips.
"It's my mother, you lustful bastard."Ian snorted and walked away.
"He seems lucky to be able to talk to his parents, "Vikram's eyes dropped down.
"Why don't you also call them if you are jealous?"Leon asked with a frown.
"Hahaha! My father would curse if I called me. He probably thinks I am useless."
"You're right about that. My parents work for the Hussain family in Vista and I was forced here to gain experience. If I managed to stay alive, I would have a chance to serve Hussain." Sander muttered softly but his eyes burned with frustration.
"You are already a Martial Master. Isn't it enough?"Vikram asked.
"Sadly, it's not."Sander chuckled softly and then shouted"These fucking big families think of themselves as God. They think that if we want to stay under their grace we need to prove ourselves lest we aren't fit enough to serve them. We need to go through the test and in the end, we are treated worse than insects."
"Fucking Hell!"Sander cursed and kicked the ground.
"I understand."Vikram comforted Sander by patting Sander's shoulder but Sander shook him off."No, you don't."
"I am an illegitimate son of a big family. Pardon me for not telling the name, "Vikram dropped the bomb startling Leon and Sander.
"So why are you here?"Leon asked in disbelief.
Though illegitimate, isn't he a son and society values sons here?
"Father said that if I can prove my worth and earn some reputation, my mother would have the chance to be his concubine and enter the main family otherwise I can just die here."
"I see, "Sander and Leon muttered, giving him a pitiful look.
They just don't know how to comfort him.
"Friends, don't look at me like that. Every human has some trouble and Leon you don't need to hide it. We all can see emotional turmoil in your heart. We can see that you are confused about your emotions and seem to be in trouble with Lady Irina whom we assumed to be your mother but instead of hiding them, you need to confront them."Vikram spoke with a smile.
It was only them Leon understood why these two suddenly spoke about their families.
"Thanks for the encouragement but I need to sort out a bit and wait for this thing to be over. One can't be emotional during battle."
Just as Leon finished speaking, warning sirens started ringing all around.
[We have noticed movements. Everyone regroups.]
"You have a very bad black tongue."Sander glared at Leon because every time this guy said that he was having a bad premonition something bad would always happen.
Leon looked at Vikram for help but he too geared at him furiously.
"This is bullshit. If I say there is going to be a meteorite shower here then doesn't mean it is…."
He hadn't even finished his sentence when Sander and Vikram started screaming and cursing.
"FUCK YOU!"
"Leon, you asshole…"
"Damn! We are going to die, Vikram, look for cover."
'Aren't these fucker reacting too much?'
......
In a black Fortress, a man sat on the Throne with a grueling smile while listening to the report.
A few months ago, he was just a normal player of Lord Games where players fought for supremacy of their territories but later he died when his home was swept by a quake and was reborn in this abandoned realm.
After conquering every monster, and clearing out the zones he was finally ready to move to the next stage, and in the process, it was connected to the outside world.
''Once I swept their army, finished the quest, and upgraded to Rank 7 equivalent to Martial Saint Level to those outsiders I am gonna go out and conquer the world.''
"Kekkeek! I felt bored when I played before now everything becomes fun when it's real."
He had been seen as God by the natives and worshiped by monsters. The tribes inhabiting the place offer their women and support.
The life of the King was like a blessing.
He looked at the Marshal, an Orc named Sekkar, and his guards.
"Lord, relay your orders. I will personally rip the heads off those vile guys.
"The humans have almost 30000 troops meanwhile, we still have 100k. Let's crush them. Send 50k at once."
Avelin paused for a moment. He has barracks that generate troops but he can't be careless as it takes a huge amount of gold and most of the 100k monsters are at a low level.
The human army wasn't much but he noted three potential individuals.
A woman named Irina, Cameron, and a guy named Leon.
Though they didn't pose any danger for now, they were still troublesome.
Avelin tapped on the throne for a moment.
'I need to pay greatly to defeat them so why don't I cut the support first and troops around?'
'I should personally step out and sneak attack to gain experience.'
"After this battle, I can prepare for Rank 6 summons."
