A high-quality Ice Stone, when used for Ice Vulpix’s evolution in the future, can unlock more of its potential. Master Victor entrusted Terrance to take care of it. Even if this Ice Vulpix has some innate shortcomings, this Ice Stone can completely make up for it.
There is still some time before Ice Vulpix hatches. It could be as soon as one or two days, or as long as three or four days. During this period, Terrance did not plan to remain idle and intended to visit Malie Library.
However, while spending time with Master Victor, Terrance remembered that the latter had been in Alola for a long time and likely knew much more than he did. So, he decided to ask some of his questions first.
“Sparkling Stone? Why are you asking about that?”
Master Victor, upon hearing Terrance’s question, thought for a moment and then replied, “Do you know about the strongest moves that are passed down in the Alola region?”
“The strongest moves?” Terrance was surprised.
“That’s right. In Alola, there is a move called ‘Z Move,’ which is far stronger than any existing Pokémon move. However, it also places a great burden on both the Trainer and the Pokémon.”
Terrance waited for Master Victor to continue.
“And not every Trainer in the Alola region can use ‘Z Move.’ Theoretically, only those who have completed the Island challenge possess this ability.”
Nodding, Terrance said, “I know about the Island challenge, but what does the ‘Z Move’ have to do with the ‘Sparkling Stone’?”“Where did you come across information about the Sparkling Stone?” Master Victor asked.
“I saw a bounty notice for collecting Sparkling Stones on my way here…”
“Haha, I imagine the person offering the bounty must be the kahuna of this island, right?”
Terrance paused and said, “Yes.”
“Well, that makes sense. The prerequisite for using a ‘Z Move’ involves two key items: the ‘Z Ring’ and the ‘Z Crystal.’ The reason people who complete the Island challenge can use the ‘Z Move’ is that, after passing this special rite of passage, they are presented with a ‘Z Ring’ by the kahuna.”
“And the material used to make the ‘Z Ring’ is the Sparkling Stone.”
Terrance now understood. The reason kahuna Nanu was collecting Sparkling Stones was to create ‘Z Rings.’ It was highly likely that ‘Z Rings’ and ‘Z Crystals’ were rare resources and could not be distributed without limit, which increased the challenge difficulty and participation conditions of the Island challenge.
“Are the ‘Z Moves’ really that powerful?” Terrance asked, his curiosity once again piqued.
“That depends on the skills of both the Pokémon and the Trainer using the ‘Z Move.’ Follow me, and I’ll show you a video of a ‘Z Move,’” Master Victor said. ȑᴀ₦o͍ᛒĘŝ
Taking out a laptop from under the table, Master Victor turned it on and clicked on a file.
It was a battle video featuring two Trainers whom Terrance did not recognize—likely strong Trainers native to Alola.
Terrance sat to the side and watched attentively. On one side was a Lycanroc, and on the other side was a Salazzle.
The Trainer performing the “Z Move” was Lycanroc’s Trainer. Terrance saw the Trainer extend their arm, revealing their wrist, where an item resembling a bracelet came into view.
A Z-Ring?!
Terrance saw the Trainer swiftly wave their arm a few times, and then the Z-Ring emitted a dazzling glow that connected the Trainer and the Pokémon together. The next instant—
Countless rocks, sand, and gravel began to appear and surged toward the sky. Their speed and volume left Terrance in awe. Finally, an incomparably massive rock was condensed. Terrance gasped in shock. Something of this size—it almost covered half the battle arena, didn’t it?!
Boom!!
The most shocking scene was yet to come. As the Z Move concluded, the enormous rock suddenly descended, crashing directly toward the Salazzle on the arena. Faced with such a massive and oppressive move, Salazzle couldn’t even dodge. It was directly smashed into the ground by the enormous falling rock!
A deep pit!
The arena now had a gigantic crater. Even though Terrance had watched many battles before, he had never seen a move cause such destructive effects on the arena.
Even through the screen, Terrance could feel the intense energy undulations. He had no doubt that none of his Pokémon, including Altaria, could withstand this move just by relying on defense!
“Master Victor, this… this move that wrecked the entire arena—what’s it called?” Terrance asked, the corners of his mouth twitching.
Damn, this is practically cheating!
“Continental Crush.”
“What?”
“Continental Crush.”
“That’s such a straightforward name,” Terrance remarked.
“When you learn the names of other Z Moves, you’ll think this is nothing,” Master Victor said mysteriously.
“Alright, but if all Trainers in Alola who complete the Island challenge can use moves like that, wouldn’t that be terrifying?” Terrance had never battled an Alola Trainer before, but he could imagine how terrible Hoenn Trainers would feel if they faced a Z Move.
This is basically cheating! Terrance repeated the thought again in his heart.
“I’ll show you another video,” Master Victor said suddenly, as if he had thought of something.
Immediately after, he opened a new folder.
Terrance saw the file name, which seemed to include the word “Totem.”
The video opened with a shot of a cave on a mountain, presumably located within a forest. As Terrance continued watching, he saw a Pokémon that was both familiar and unfamiliar—Rattata.
However, it was the Alolan form of Rattata, which was quite different from the Rattata found in Hoenn.
First, its body was black, and the color of its belly was close to yellowish brown. In addition, spindle-shaped tufts of special fur grew on the sides of its nose, above its ears, and on its tail.
Following this, as the camera perspective in the video shifted, Terrance saw some Raticate. As expected, these Raticate also looked quite different from the Hoenn Raticate.
“I…” Suddenly, Terrance’s eyelid twitched, and his eyes widened. What was this thing?
Its cheeks were puffed up into round balls, its nose was slightly swollen, its belly was completely rounded, and its fur was even fluffier… If he wasn’t mistaken, it was probably also a Raticate? But its size—Terrance couldn’t believe his eyes. Compared to the other Raticate around it, its body was at least four or five times larger!!
Terrance estimated… it might even be bigger than himself!
A Raticate larger than a human?! Is this still a Raticate? It’s a monster!
“Do you know what’s going on with this Raticate?” Master Victor asked.
Terrance responded, “Could it be… a Raticate that used Bulk Up ten times?”
“Hahaha, so you know how to crack a dumb joke too. But this is no Bulk Up.”
Terrance knew it wasn’t the Bulk Up move, but what exactly was going on with this Raticate? Even if environmental and dietary factors caused it to grow larger than the average Raticate, there should still be a limit. This size was simply too outrageous.
