Chapter 1391: Chapter 1388: Teasing
Chu Zhang smiled apologetically, “I feel more secure holding them myself. Besides, I’m strong and it’s no trouble at all.”
In the past few days, Chu Jin had watched him work hard and felt even more at ease entrusting him with responsibilities.
“That’s settled, then. I’ve arranged a servant boy and two guards for you. Always remember to take them with you when you’re out. And these books, don’t let anyone else see them.”
Chu Jin just thought they were rare editions and didn’t suspect any conspiracy, “Jin, rest assured, I will protect these books.”
Chu Jin rubbed his forehead and couldn’t help but remind him, “The main issue isn’t the books themselves, but I’m worried that someone might cause you trouble over them. If someone tries to steal them, just burn the books. I can copy them over later.”
“Ah?” Chu Zhang was stunned by his assertive statement.
Amused by his reaction, Chu Jin said, “What’s so surprising? These books were originally not here. I copied them all by hand.”
“Compared to life, the books are not that important.”
Chu Zhang nodded dumbly, then, realizing belatedly that Chu Jin was expressing his concern for him, he smiled and scratched his head, “Thank you, Jin. I understand. I’ll try not to cause any trouble.”
“Lil’ Jin, Ah Zhang, let’s go.” Chu Lin strode out of the room and called the two of them.
Chu Bo also carried his luggage, staying close to Chu Jin, fascinated by everything he saw.
The four of them disembarked the boat, and the luggage had already been neatly placed on mule carts, with two horse-drawn carriages waiting by the side.
Chu Lin took Chu Bo to the front carriage, while Chu Jin and Chu Zhang sat in the one behind.
Once the four were seated in the carriages, the coachman urged the horses away from the dock and into the streets, but they didn’t head for the main road. Instead, at an alley, the carriage turned and went in.
The alley was a stone alleyway typical of the Jiangnan Water Town, the weather was fine, and although it was not wide, it was enough for the carriage to pass with space for two people to walk side by side.
After about fifteen minutes, the carriage stopped in front of a small courtyard.
“Elder master, young master, we’ve arrived.”
The coachman stopped the carriage and the guards stepped forward to open the gate of the courtyard.
The luggage was orderly carried inside.
Only then did Chu Lin get the group off the carriage.
Chu Bo followed inside, “Wow, this courtyard is different from the ones in our county. The houses seem taller, and it has a front and a back yard, a two-entry residence, right?”
“Great Uncle, did we rent or buy this courtyard?”
“It’s under Third Aunt’s name,” Chu Lin explained.
“Eh, Third Aunt has never lived in Hangzhou, so why did she buy a property?” Chu Bo asked, curious.
Chu Lin shook his head, also not quite understanding. This trip was coordinated with several long-term merchants from Chu Heng’s company, who had arranged the living accommodations.
Chu Jinhuo dismissed it carelessly, “My mother thought it’s better to buy than rent, so my father had someone purchase it. He probably worried that my mother might not be comfortable if she ever came to Hangzhou.”
Chu Bo was awestruck, “Third Uncle is really good to Third Aunt.”
“My mother is also good to my father,” Chu Jin snorted in retort, “Besides, isn’t it right to be good to your wife?”
Chu Bo teased him, making a face, “Hehe, Jin, how old are you? Already thinking about getting a wife?”
Chu Jin wasn’t embarrassed by the teasing at all, quite thick-skinned, “I would like to indeed, but I’m too young, and no one’s interested. You, Bo, need to work out. Otherwise, you’ll be too fat to get a wife.”
