Chapter 1372: Chapter 1369: Progress
The next morning, the Broker brought the seller over. Chu Jin agreed on the price, went to the county government, finished the red contract, paid the Tax Silver, and in total spent ninety-three taels.
Chu Jin was quite satisfied. After completing the procedures, he instructed Zhang Cong, “You organize some temporary workers to connect the several courtyards. First, go and reserve bricks and tiles. If you need silver, get it from the residence’s treasury.”
“Young Master, rest assured, I will handle it immediately.”
Zhang Cong was no longer young and was even more steadfast and reliable in his work. Upon receiving the instructions, he set out to handle these matters.
Chu Jin did not join Chu Sheng to meet with the students anymore. He was now busy arranging matters for the store.
Just back at the residence, he ran into the Second Housekeeper.
“Young Master, you’re back. This old servant has almost gathered all the information; a few items remain. Look at this first, I will continue to inquire after going out,” the Second Housekeeper spoke and handed Chu Jin the price list to view.
There were at least fifty types of goods listed, with only seven or eight still uncertain. The prices of the rest were all written down, all at their lowest.
“You’ve worked hard. Well done. Don’t worry about me, Second Housekeeper. Continue with this task. After you finish, I have other matters I need your help with.” Chu Jin quickly scanned the list; most of the costs were below his targeted prices.
This also indirectly showed that there was indeed a lot of waste typically at his mother’s Manor, making him more confident about his store.
“Alright, Young Master. This old servant will go out now.” Seeing that he was sincere and apparently really planning to open a store, the Second Housekeeper was very cooperative.
Chu Jin then went straight to the treasury.
Steward Xu was working on the promotional painting that Chu Jin had spoken to him about the night before.
Hearing footsteps at the door, he hurriedly looked up, saw Chu Jin approaching, and rose to greet him. “Young Master, why are you here? I haven’t finished yet. I’ve just created a framework.”
Actually, last night, after returning, he had been thinking about how to do it. The material the Young Master mentioned was very interesting, specifically a flyer introducing the prices of goods in the store.
The flyer also contained text. However, considering that most common people were illiterate, illustrations were necessary, using standard characters for the prices.
As such, there was a lot to include, and to complete it might take several days. Seeing Chu Jin come over, he thought it was because he was dissatisfied with his slow progress.
Chu Jin was thoughtful and did not talk much. He ordered, “Zhang Cong will come later for the silver; just give it to him. Record it as usual, making sure to note it as an expenditure for the store.”
Steward Xu nodded, “Understood, sir.”
“I give you five days to first produce the drawings.”
“Thank you, Young Master.” Five days might not seem much, but Chu Jin had already discussed his ideas with him. Steward Xu had the capability; although it seemed tight, there was still a bit of leeway if he managed his time well.
Chu Jin also found two maidservants and had them select two rooms from the residence to use as a warehouse.
Over the next period, construction began on several northern estates, transforming them into expansive houses, overseen by Zhang Cong. Now, during the slack farming season, it didn’t take an hour to find the necessary labor.
The Second Housekeeper was also making good progress; most of the grain and goods were sourced from several Manors under Ye Muyu’s name. Normal contracting procedures were followed.
Chu Xing was in charge of several Manor affairs.
After signing the contract, Chu Xing laughed and patted Chu Jin on the shoulder. “Good lad, when did you decide to start doing business? And you actually started it.”
“I’ve always wanted to, but never had the opportunity. Being watched all the time in the capital, it was inconvenient,” Chu Jin said with a shy smile.
