Peasant Woman's Decreed Life as a Wife
Chapter 1370: 1367: Persuade with ExamplesChapter 1370: Chapter 1367: Persuade with Examples
Madam Zhang was diligent, cleaning the house until it was spotless.
“Lil’ Jin, come over here,” Madam Liu beckoned to him. Once Chu Jin had sat down, she asked, “I heard you plan to open some kind of shop?”
Madam Liu had found out about the news in the county from the busy Second Housekeeper.
Chu Jin wasn’t surprised by the question; he did not intend to keep it a secret from his elders and nodded in acknowledgment, “Um, I’m preparing to open a fairly comprehensive shop, where you can find all kinds of items.”
“It could help sell off the miscellaneous goods from the house that we can’t sell.”
If Ye Muyu were here, she would know that Chu Jin’s idea was to open a supermarket.
This idea could actually take off in Jiangnan, especially as Xingshui Village became increasingly bustling, which also led to a lot of foot traffic in Nanchang County.
“Isn’t that similar to a general store?” Madam Liu didn’t immediately see the advantage in the concept.
Chu Jin gave her examples, “Mother, look, no general store sells vegetables, nor would a general store sell rice, let alone ready-made food.”
“Hm?” Chu Lin frowned, “Then won’t your shop directly compete with all the other shops?”
“Uncle, how would that be the case? We would only be competing, not monopolizing. I need good quality products to attract customers. Of course, the goods in my shop will definitely be of high quality.”
“Besides, I don’t have that much stock to begin with; it’s no different than opening another store.”
“Moreover, I’m planning to sell chicken parts separately.”
Madam Liu didn’t see it as stealing business, it was more about earning a living through one’s own abilities.
“How will you sell them separately?” Madam Liu asked.
“You see, pork is sold in parts too, and so can poultry like chickens and ducks be sold in parts, with naturally different prices. For example, if I want to eat chicken wings today, I can’t possibly kill ten chickens at once, right?”
Madam Wang nodded, “Right. But I don’t like chicken wings; chicken hearts are tasty.”
“Clearly, chicken heads are tastier.”
“I think chicken feet aren’t bad either.”
“What about duck feet?”
“We’ve strayed from the topic,” said Madam Liu, seeing the two couples going off track, and she touched her forehead with embarrassment. Wasn’t this letting Lil’ Jin lead the conversation?
Madam Wang and Chu Cai both blushed.
Madam Zhang asked, “Mother, what do you think about Lil’ Jin’s idea?”
“I think it’s feasible,” Madam Liu had already understood Chu Jin’s idea, “However, once we open this shop, it probably won’t be long before others imitate it. Like chicken, once killed, is ready-made food, which spoils easily.”
“I’m not worried about imitation. We can be self-sufficient in many things and the cost is low. Besides, we are the first to open such a shop. As long as our goods are fresh, I’m not worried about business being bad.”
“Plus, I plan to later fill the shelves with even more products, striving for a complete range of styles.”
Seeing him so well-prepared, Madam Liu didn’t plan to stop him anymore.
“Then go ahead and do it. If you need help, just call your Uncle Chu Sheng. He’s experienced in business; he could teach you a thing or two.”
“Alright.”
And so Chu Jin began to get busy.
He spent the afternoon entertaining students at home with Chu Sheng and Chu Zhang.
After he was done, he left early to find someone to buy commercial premises from.
Finding the right premises wasn’t easy; he needed a large space for the shop he wanted to open, otherwise, he couldn’t fit much stuff. This meant there weren’t many places to choose from.
Premises were generally small, especially in the crowded, bustling Jiangnan, where shops and houses were even smaller.
