PEASANT WOMAN'S DECREED LIFE AS A WIFE

Chapter 1176 03-25 - Chapter 1173: Begging Her

Chapter 1176: Chapter 1173: Begging Her

“You’re not her, which is exactly why you were able to harm me so terribly,” Madam Tang said with a smirk that wasn’t quite a smile. “But all of that is over now.”

“What have you done?” Ye Muyu’s heart skipped a beat.

At that moment.

Hurried footsteps sounded from outside the door.

Ye Muyu turned to look as Su Mei’s voice rang out, “Madam, someone from the Imperial Palace has arrived.”

Ye Muyu sharply turned to Madam Tang, trying to guess what she could have possibly done. Madam Tang only looked at her and laughed coldly, offering no reminder.

“Take good care of Tang Beauty.”

With that, she dropped the remark, turned around, and walked out, while ordering someone to call the four children out.

With the two elders absent, it was just as well not to summon them to receive the decree.

When Ye Muyu reached the mansion gate, a Eunuch was already there, and she hurried to meet him.

“Madam Chu, now that everyone is present, Eunuch Ren will announce the decree,” the Eunuch said in a shrill voice, barely glancing at her. “This is an imperial edict from the Emperor himself, summoning Madam Chu to the palace for an audience. Please follow Eunuch Ren immediately.”

“May I ask, Eunuch, for what important matter does the Emperor summon this lowly wife? What preparations should I make?” Ye Muyu asked. At her side, Su Mei discreetly slipped a pouch of silver into his hand.

The Eunuch swept up the silver with a swift motion, his smile not revealing a thing. “Madam need not worry, Eunuch Ren dare not inquire about the affairs of the Emperor.”

“Then, please wait a moment, Eunuch. This lowly wife will change into proper attire and immediately follow you to the palace.”

The Eunuch, not wanting to be punished himself, agreed to this small request, which didn’t implicate him. After all, it would be inappropriate for Ye Muyu to meet the Emperor in casual attire, possibly affecting his mood—the repercussion would fall on him.

Meanwhile.

Ye Muyu hurriedly walked to the back courtyard, instructing that the children be sent back to continue their studies.

She then gave detailed instructions to Su Mei, “Once I leave, arrange for Tang Beauty to be sent away. Don’t let her stay in the mansion any longer than necessary. And mention to her the Eunuch’s disregard for propriety when he just accepted the silver without a word of advice.”

“As for Master, inform him after I leave. Tell him not to fret; it should be nothing serious.”

“Regarding Old Madam and the old master, they shouldn’t go out before I return. If the two elders have any needs, fulfill them without hesitation.”

“Yes, Madam.”

Once Ye Muyu had changed into attire fitting of her status, yet modest and understated, she followed the Eunuch to the palace.

“Sister Su Mei, why did Madam instruct us to inform Tang Beauty of the Eunuch’s slight?” Chun Xing, not altogether clever but sufficiently obedient, asked quietly when they were alone.

Su Mei taught her, “That Tang Beauty came here to make trouble, no doubt hoping to see our Madam come to misfortune. Since we don’t know what will happen now that Madam has gone to the palace, let’s just go along with her wishes. That way, the other party will have no excuse to scheme against us.”

“I see, let’s go then,” Chun Xing said, understanding the rationale.

As they arrived at the guest room door, Chun Xing quietly grumbled that the Eunuch had taken the silver but had done nothing in return, not even offering a hint.

Madam Tang, overhearing them quite by chance, raised her eyebrows in satisfaction.

Then she saw Su Mei and two maidservants lift the curtain and enter.

“Tang Beauty, our Madam has gone to the palace and has no time to entertain you. Before leaving, she instructed us to send you on your way,” Su Mei said, pointedly ushering her out.

After all, the Madam hadn’t mentioned treating her with any special regard.

At that moment, Tang Beauty had no desire to stay, but being chased away left her feeling disgruntled. Standing up, she spoke with thinly veiled malice, “If your Madam runs into trouble, when she comes begging to me, I might consider helping her for old times’ sake.”
