One Piece - I Am A Different Luffy!
Chapter 523 – The Truth Behind Why the Poneglyphs Are Indestructible.[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]
Third Person POV
Territory of the Pirates of the Dawn.
…
…
Luffy and Robin were walking through a strange part of Wano, as they began to descend into a place with endless stairs.
Robin was silent while Luffy walked ahead with a flame flying above his shoulder lighting up the space, and she wondered what he wanted to show her, walking here for the first time in Wano.
It was only 10 minutes later in the midst of the silence that Robin saw a window to the right, while Luffy stopped at it and Robin did the same with a curious look.
“The sea…” she murmured as she saw some fish passing by the window, looking at the light that Luffy was emitting, while at the same time, neither Luffy nor Robin could see anything, with the sea in complete darkness.
“Wait a moment.” Luffy said.
He simply went to the window and removed it without warning, catching Robin by surprise, but at the same time, the water didn’t come in, as he stopped time in that part and threw a huge fireball outside the area he hadn’t frozen, and put the window back again.
Then, with a beam from his finger, he started welding the window so that the water wouldn’t get through.
Robin just kept looking at him as Luffy’s flame suddenly exploded downward.
In the next moment, it lit up the entire sea with a purple hue, but now everything they couldn’t see before became visible.
Robin began to widen her eyes as she saw what was down there—
A huge constructed area began to appear; it was as if there was a whole country beneath them.
“How?” she murmured before widening her eyes even more, clearly remembering the words Luffy had said to her two years ago, when he had captured and talked to her after Whisky Peak.
“The ancient weapon… you told me it was here… What is going on.”
Obviously, Robin wouldn’t forget that detail when Luffy had told her so long ago, and when they arrived in Wano, she had also been on the lookout for the weapon, but had found nothing.
Now it made sense—that it was possibly here the entire time, inside Wano’s walls, hidden beneath its water.
“Pluton is here, and I believe Lily can activate it in some way.” Luffy commented while Robin still seemed lost and stunned.
“Are you going to activate it?” she asked carefully, with a bit of caution when it came to an ancient weapon, preferring never to see it in action.
“Most likely… We’ll have to use it against the government, so I’m not going to dismiss the chance to use it if necessary.” Luffy said in a serious tone.
“…”
Robin remained silent, unable to agree with her husband in that moment.
“I’m not going to destroy the world if that’s what you think, Robin, but we need to use our strength if we want to give our child a future—so that he has a childhood neither of us had.” Luffy said, though Robin’s childhood was certainly far worse than his.
Still, neither of them had their father present, and Luffy wanted to raise their son together with his mother in a world where the World Government wouldn’t exist, or where the threat of the world ending wouldn’t loom.
Robin nodded, trusting in Luffy.
He nodded back and simply began walking again.
She followed right behind, heading deeper into the place.
It was after 20 minutes that they found a very spacious room, while Robin immediately felt the poneglyphs inside the darkness.
Luffy lit up the place right after that, revealing the three black stones in front of them.
“Feel free to read them. I already did.” Luffy said without giving details, as Robin began to approach them.
Luffy remained silent; he simply showed the stones so that Robin could read them.
As he approached her when she finished reading and stood in thought, those poneglyphs spoke of one of Wano’s ancient stories—a story even older than the Void Century, speaking of a vast land that was hard to believe.
“Luffy… do you know what this means?”
Even though it wasn’t from the Void Century, it still intrigued her, stating it was a story at least a thousand years old.
“This probably happened before the world was even flooded by water…” Luffy commented, with Robin looking at him with a gaze demanding explanations.
“A long time ago, there were continents, not islands in the world… I can’t say exactly what happened, but Vegapunk will announce this soon.” Luffy said, and she nodded with some caution.
“Anyway… I wanted you to see this.”
Luffy approached one of the stones and simply punched it, making Robin widen her eyes as Luffy’s punch cracked the stone and embedded his fist into it, creating a huge hole, his forearm stuck inside before he pulled it back again.
“Luffy! You broke it?!” Robin murmured, stunned, as Luffy nodded.
“Yes… I managed to break it…” he said, opening and closing his fist.
“And it was so easy.” Luffy added, while Robin was left speechless.
“It was easy…” he admitted.
“I wanted to test something, that’s why I wanted you to read them before I tried destroying them.” Luffy said.
“Why are you doing this?” she murmured, immediately disapproving of such an act.
“Because these poneglyphs are different from the ones from the Void Century. These were created 400 years ago, by someone trying to pass on the information we read so the story wouldn’t die. But they’re not indestructible like the others…” he explained in an analytical tone.
“…”
Robin let go of her stunned look and returned to the broken stone, wondering what Luffy meant by that.
But he was right—the poneglyphs were supposed to be indestructible, and yet here, he had just destroyed one.
“I brought a regular one to test.” Luffy said as he pulled one from his pocket and threw it in front of them.
Without warning, even before it fully returned to its normal size, Luffy punched it. The impact echoed through the area, but at the same time, there was no damage to the stone.
Robin remained silent as Luffy gave a slightly embarrassed smile.
“You know… I started thinking a lot about the material these poneglyphs were made of, because if something indestructible existed in the world, it would be the best material to build everything with.
But I ended up realizing that such a thing doesn’t exist…” he commented, looking at the stone.
“Then why…?”
Robin was also very interested in what her husband meant.
Luffy placed his palm on the stone he had pulled from his pocket, and it quickly erupted in purple flames, trying to heat and consume the stone.
“One proof is my powers. The flames of chaos shouldn’t be prevented from consuming matter, which is what everything in the universe is made of… I don’t understand, not even my flames work against the stones from the Void Century.” Luffy said in an analytical tone.
“But there is something that can stop my flames… and that’s Haki.” he said in a calm tone.
“Haki?!” Robin’s eyes widened.
“Yes… I believe these stones, the poneglyphs from the Void Century, are coated with Armament Haki—strong enough that no one capable of destroying the stones has appeared in these past 700 years…” Luffy explained.
“But Haki lasting 700 years, Luffy? How is that possible?” Robin was very confused and stunned.
“Haki can be infused into objects and last for centuries without losing its effect, though someone must have been powerful enough to do it. I wonder what kind of monster existed in the Void Century if even I can’t break it in this era.” Luffy said, seeming excited, as it showed he still had a path to follow and hadn’t yet reached his peak. He needed to reach it if he wanted to defeat Imu.
“I’ve never heard of anything like that.” Robin commented.
“In the future, you’ll understand, and so will I—after all, even I don’t know exactly how this works. Either way, the proof is between the two stones: while one was made centuries later, it doesn’t have the same resistance as the one left behind from the Void Century.” Luffy said.
“I see… this is certainly interesting.” Robin replied, now with a gaze also full of curiosity. She had never thought about this before.
“Anyway, do you want to stay? I wanted to show you this since I could’ve broken it while testing—and almost did. I’m going back to finish things with the others.” Luffy said as Robin nodded.
“I want to stay a bit longer and document the records. Then I’ll return to our son and start preparing to leave.” she said.
“Alright, I’ll meet you all later. See you.”
With that, Luffy turned around and began climbing the stairs.
Luffy flew out of Wano, heading toward one of the wild islands among many in the territory, directly to where giant animals lived in a community in the middle of the jungle.
He appeared from the sky a moment later and landed near the gorilla who led the thousands of animals on that island.
“Hello, Guren.” Luffy said calmly, surprising the animal upon seeing him there.
Guren was the gorilla he had recruited, hoping to have him at his side as a pirate during their journey, after catching him on one of the wild islands in the Calm Belt nearly two years ago. But his pirate monkey ended up serving another purpose, now leading all the animals.
Meanwhile, the gorilla quickly approached him with caution, knowing Luffy would only appear if he wanted something from him. He was always afraid of Luffy, obviously, because of his monstrous strength.
“Guren, I’ll be leaving soon. I want you to keep training the recruits, sending animals every day to fight them—I expect them to beat them up, but don’t kill them.
I also want you and all the animals to reinforce the island. Are we clear?” Luffy said, and the gorilla quickly nodded.
“Otherwise, if you don’t reach the proper strength in the coming months, I promise I’ll eat all of you and take you as a banquet for my crew!” he added, while all the animals, hearing that, immediately turned pale.
Luffy, obviously, was joking, but didn’t explain, and left the place a moment later, leaving all the animals nervous with that statement—none of them wanted to be eaten as he said.
Luffy then moved on to where most of the important people were training.
He went straight to where Page-One and Ulti were, as she was also training beside him. Without any warning, they vanished and were taken to another island—one where dinosaurs lived.
None other than… Little Garden.
“Hey, big bro! What are you doing?” Page-One fell to the ground, looking at Luffy, stunned.
“I’ll be leaving soon. I want you to train with the dinosaurs from now on. I want you and them to train and strengthen your Haki, aiming to reach an advanced level. Are we clear? You’ll still be their leader.” Luffy said in a serious tone.
“Yes, brother, we’ll do that.” he answered immediately.
“Hey, why did you bring me too? What’s your deal, man?!” Ulti complained angrily a moment later.
“I want you to help him as well. Are we clear?” Luffy said.
“And why should I obey you?” she exclaimed, but Page-One quickly stepped in front of her.
“She said she’d be honored to serve you, captain,” Page-One immediately tried to contain Ulti’s idiocy, which could get her killed if she annoyed Luffy.
Luffy simply raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
“Alright, do as you please. Just make sure they develop while we’re away. And also protect all our territory. Are we clear?” Luffy said, while Page-One quickly nodded.
“Of course!”
“Great. Then it’s time to speak with the other allied members.”
After that, Luffy returned to the island where he had picked up Page-One and Ulti, while most were still training.
He called Katakuri for a conversation, saying they would also be heading out to sea. The Charlotte family was also leaving after training for a month; now they intended to expand their territory after Big Mom’s fall.
He called Ace right afterward—members of his crew would also be going out to sea, looking for the remaining Whitebeard fleet members who were still allies.
Luffy had said he would help them, but ended up unable to, due to his packed schedule over the last two months.
In any case, after that, Luffy simply went on to speak with King, who would also be responsible for protecting Wano and the territory.
After talking to the pirates, he now needed to speak with the Revolutionaries and the Marines, explaining the whole situation. He would also speak with the monarchs, personally making sure they would do everything he asked during his absence.
It was time for them to return to the sea, and the territory would be left behind.
But Luffy was sure it would be well protected.
