Space twisted as Bai Xiaole emerged from the void. His youthful, almost childlike features contrasted sharply with the stunned expressions around him.
His opponent—the fifth leader of the demon race—stood frozen in shock. Blood gushed from his severed arm, and the wound looked jagged as if some beast had torn through it. He hadn't even sensed Bai Xiaole's presence before razor-sharp spatial energy slashed through the void, nearly dragging him into a crushing vortex. Luckily, his sheer instinct had saved him from instant death.
Bai Xiaole’s attack had come without sound or warning. His enemy had survived by luck alone.
“Long Chen’s subordinate, an outside contractor of the Dragonblood Legion, a nameless little soldier—Bai Xiaole—here to teach you a lesson!” Bai Xiaole mimicked the others’ self-introductions, his voice carrying a hint of mischief.
Despite his rapid growth after joining the Dragonblood Legion, Bai Xiaole’s powers never fully merged with the Dragonblood warriors, making it impossible for him to integrate into their squads. He often joked about being an “outside contractor,” but the Dragonblood Legion never treated him as an outsider. Now, he used that self-given title to introduce himself.
“You despicable humans! Shameless sneak attackers! You all deserve to die!” the injured demon leader roared in fury.
His severed limb regrew in an instant, and a massive blood-red battle-axe materialized in his grip. With a deafening roar, he swung it down at Bai Xiaole.
Shockingly, Bai Xiaole simply stood there, not moving at all.
BOOM!
Three luminous flowers bloomed in the air, forming a complex spinning diagram. The floral barrier met the descending axe head-on, halting it completely.“What kind of divine ability is this?!”
“He didn’t form hand seals or chant! No Blood Qi fluctuations, no Heavenly Doyen energy—what power is this?!”
The watching experts gasped in disbelief. Bai Xiaole stood there without releasing his aura, his heaven veins dormant. The three-flower diagram had simply manifested out of nowhere.
“Look at his eyes!”
A shout rang out, drawing all eyes to Bai Xiaole’s pupils. Divine light swirled within them, and upon closer inspection, nine dragon-shaped figures coiled around his irises. Three miniature flowers spun at the center of his eyes, identical to the three-flower shield that had blocked the attack.
“It’s a pupil art!”
The demon race’s experts erupted into chaos. Pupil arts were the stuff of legends. And yet, here stood a wielder of such power, casually declaring himself an outside contractor of the Dragonblood Legion. Just what kind of force was the Dragonblood Legion?
“Bastard, I’ll break those eyes of yours!” roared the injured leader of the demon race.
His battle-axe flashed repeatedly, and he swung it toward the three-flower shield once again.
CRACK!
Cracks splintered across the three-flower shield. The demon expert grinned viciously and swung once more, shattering the barrier completely.
As he stepped toward Bai Xiaole, the former’s figure suddenly became illusory.
“An afterimage?!”
Cries of disbelief filled the battlefield. Even a brute of the demon race was capable of such deceptive tactics?
“Die!”
The space behind Bai Xiaole twisted, and the demon leader’s battle-axe slashed toward his exposed neck.
BOOM!
Another three-flower shield materialized at the right moment, blocking the strike. Bai Xiaole turned, smiling faintly.
Bai Xiaole wasn’t one for words, but he had asked Long Chen how to truly enrage an opponent. Long Chen was glad to teach him a simple lesson.
This smile.
Seeing it, the demon leader seethed with rage. This silent mockery stung worse than any insult.
“Die!” he roared, swinging his battle-axe ferociously.
Again and again, his attacks shattered the barriers, but with each step backward, Bai Xiaole conjured a new one.
“Let me see how many shields you have!” roared the demon expert.
“Let me see how much energy you have,” countered Bai Xiaole.
One side attacked with reckless ferocity; the other defended with unwavering calmness. It had become a battle of attrition.
Meanwhile, the other five demon leaders were locked in combat, leaving the demon army without leaders. Despite this, the demon soldiers surged forward, clashing with the Dragonblood Legion, the Hidden Dragon Legion, the dragon race’s army, and the Wind God Sea Pavilion’s disciples.
The Dragonblood Legion focused solely on defending the crack in the dragon scale’s space. If anyone tried to approach it, the Dragonblood Legion would slay them.
What the Dragonblood Legion found curious was the existence of another group near them. Rather than attacking the crack, they simply set up formations there, preventing other factions from getting close to them.
“It’s the Northern Alliance,” said Xia Chen.
Xia Chen saw from their banners that they were from a faction called the Northern Alliance.
“It seems that they’re secretly helping us. That’s good. Our defensive line is smaller now, and defending it is easier,” said Guo Ran.
Although he didn’t know why these people would help them, in any case, they were all from the same race. Mutually helping each other was only natural. They didn’t know what Long Chen had done for the Northern Alliance.
“There are some more people over there. Their banners… it’s the Southern Alliance,” Xia Chen said, suddenly noticing another group of experts approaching them.
These unexpected reinforcements subtly shifted the battlefield dynamics. The remaining enemy forces did not intervene, instead waiting patiently, biding their time.
“Guo Ran, tell everyone not to fight too hard. Just maintaining this balance is fine. Keep stalling,” Bai Shishi instructed.
Except for Little Nine who was fighting all-out, the rest of the Dragonblood Legion focused on the bigger picture. After all, most of the hostile forces were still patiently watching them kill each other.
If the Dragonblood Legion revealed too much strength, the other factions would abandon their passive stance and launch an all-out assault. No matter how powerful the Dragonblood Legion was, they couldn’t survive a battle against the combined forces of their enemies.
Though holding back, the Dragonblood warriors were killing too efficiently, their attacks too precise. At this rate, their true power would be exposed.
Guo Ran also noticed this issue, but he couldn’t simply curb their battle instincts. However, he did stealthily inform everyone to calm down a bit.
They had to act like they were going all-out, like they had just barely killed their opponents by burning their essence blood or acting in a suicidal manner.
Time passed bit by bit, and the demon race’s army continued to crash against the Dragonblood Legion’s defenses. But ultimately, they couldn’t break through.
The battlefield was drenched in blood. Yet, strangely, there were no piles of corpses—because the Dragonblood warriors were collecting them.
This act enraged the demon race further. To them, their fallen were sacred. To the humans, demon corpses were valuable treasures—one of many reasons for the deep hatred between the two races.
Furious beyond reason, the demon soldiers threw themselves into the fray with suicidal abandon.
And still, they could not breach the ironclad defense.
“AH!”
Then, a bloodcurdling shriek pierced the battlefield and broke the deadlock. The demon experts’ expressions twisted in horror, especially those of the Heavenly Demon Golden Monkey race.
The shriek had come from Hou Tianwu.
