Bai Ying stood amidst the ruins of the Profound Mystery Sect, her gaze sweeping across the desolate landscape. The once majestic structures, symbols of power and authority, were now reduced to rubble, a testament to the sect’s downfall. She had achieved her revenge, the culmination of years of pain and suffering.
She looked up at the sky, her eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and relief. “Rest in peace, everyone,” she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. “Your suffering has been avenged. I vow to protect your descendants, to ensure that your legacy lives on.”
The wind carried her words across the ruins, a solemn promise echoing through the silence. She closed her eyes, allowing the memories of her clan to wash over her, their faces etched in her mind, their voices ringing in her ears.
Yun Lintian watched her from a distance, his expression calm and patient. He gave her the space she needed, allowing her to grieve and to find peace.
After a while, Bai Ying opened her eyes, her expression resolute. She turned to Yun Lintian, her gaze filled with gratitude.
“Thank you,” she said, her voice steady. “Thank you for helping me avenge my clan.”
Yun Lintian nodded, his expression gentle. “It was my pleasure, Senior. Now, let’s go.”
They left the ruins of the Profound Mystery Sect behind, their footsteps echoing through the desolate landscape. They traveled for several days, their journey taking them towards the bustling city of Profound Sky City.
Upon arriving, Yun Lintian and Bai Ying found a quiet inn to rest before proceeding with their plans. Yun Lintian told Bai Ying to rest while he went to see Granny Mei.
He navigated through the familiar alleyways, his footsteps light and silent. He arrived at Granny Mei’s small house, its unassuming exterior a stark contrast to the grandeur of the city.
He knocked gently on the door, and a moment later, Granny Mei opened it, her eyes widening in surprise.
“Young Master Yun!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with delight. “What brings you here?”
Yun Lintian smiled gently. “I came to see how you were doing, Granny.”
Granny Mei invited him inside, offering him tea and snacks. “Please, make yourself comfortable,” she said, her voice warm and welcoming.
Yun Lintian sat down, his gaze fixed on Granny Mei. “I have some news,” he began, his voice serious. “The Profound Mystery God, Xuan Shen, is no more.”
Granny Mei’s eyes widened in shock.
“What?” she exclaimed, her voice trembling. “How? Who?”
Yun Lintian recounted the events that had transpired, the battle with Xuan Shen, the revelation of his true nature, his ultimate demise. Granny Mei listened intently, her expression filled with a mix of disbelief and relief.
“So, it was him,” she muttered, her voice trembling. “He was the one who orchestrated the attack on the Bai Clan.”
Yun Lintian nodded. “He was a puppet of the God of Darkness,” he said. “His benevolence was a facade, a tool to manipulate and control.”
Granny Mei sighed, her eyes filled with sadness. “I had my suspicions. But I never imagined he was capable of such evil.”
She paused, her gaze turning towards Yun Lintian. “Thank you,” she said, her voice filled with gratitude. “Thank you for avenging the Bai Clan.”
“It’s nothing,” Yun Lintian said gently. “I have a favor to ask, Granny.”
Granny Mei nodded, her expression resolute. “Please do tell.”
“There is another matter,” Yun Lintian said, his voice soft. “With Xuan Shen’s demise, the world will soon fall into chaos. The order he maintained, however fragile, will crumble. Ordinary people like you, Granny, will suffer the most.”
Granny Mei’s eyes widened, a flicker of fear crossing her face. “What can we do? We are powerless.”
“I can offer you a sanctuary,” Yun Lintian said, his voice calm and reassuring. “A place where you and others like you can be safe from the coming storm.”
Granny Mei looked at him, her eyes filled with hope. “A sanctuary?”
“Yes,” Yun Lintian said. “I can provide a place of refuge, a safe haven for those who seek it. But I need your help, Granny. I need you to spread the word, to tell the people of this community that there is a chance for them to escape the chaos.”
He paused, his gaze steady. “Tell them to come here tonight. Tell them I will take those who are willing to go. If they don’t believe it, that’s fine. I will only bring those who are willing to leave.”
Granny Mei nodded, her eyes filled with determination. “I will do it.”
“There is one more thing,” Yun Lintian said, his voice soft. “Senior Bai Ying comes with me. She’s currently staying in the inn. The Bai Clan’s descendants are still alive as well. They are living in the sanctuary.”
Granny Mei’s eyes widened, a look of wonder and disbelief spreading across her face. “Is it true?”
“Yes,” Yun Lintian nodded. “You will see them soon.”
Granny Mei cried, her eyes filled with tears. “Thank you. Thank you for saving them.”
“It wasn’t me. Well, you will know it later.” Yun Lintian quickly said.
“I will go now.” Granny Mei got up and walked out of the house.
Yun Lintian stayed there, and by nightfall, a large crowd had gathered outside Granny Mei’s house.
The news of Xuan Shen’s demise and the offer of sanctuary had spread like wildfire through the community. People from all walks of life, from farmers to merchants, had come seeking refuge.
As Yun Lintian emerged from Granny Mei’s house, a hush fell over the crowd. Their eyes were filled with a mix of hope, fear, and disbelief.
“Young Master Yun,” a man stepped forward, his voice trembling slightly. “Is it true? Has the Profound Mystery God truly fallen?”
A wave of murmurs rippled through the crowd, their faces etched with anticipation. They had lived under the shadow of the Profound Mystery Sect for generations, their lives governed by its rules and decrees. The idea that their god had fallen was almost too much to comprehend.
Yun Lintian’s gaze swept across the crowd, his expression calm and steady. “Whether you believe it or not, it does not matter now. What matters is your choice.”
He paused, his eyes flashing with a hint of power. “I offer you a chance to escape the coming chaos, a sanctuary where you can be safe. But I will not force anyone to come. Those who believe can follow me. Those who do not believe can stay here.”
