My Wife Came From A Thousand Years Ago
Chapter 154: Sometimes you have to change your mindsetChapter 154: Sometimes you have to change your mindset
The storeroom wasn’t always a storeroom.
Before Xu Wenbin and his family moved out, Xu Qing used to sleep in this small room. A simple bedroom: one table, one chair, a wardrobe, and a spring bed. On the walls were faded posters, including one gifted with a purchase of Zhu Yan. It depicted a swordsman in a blue robe holding a sword and an umbrella, but Xu Qing had humorously pasted his own photo over the face, making it look ridiculous.
Ah, the days of youthful cringe…
Xu Qing glanced around the small room, flooded with nostalgia.
Jiang He, meanwhile, had already finished tidying up the bed and walked out with light steps, holding her phone at the doorway. "I want to buy pajamas."
"Don’t you already have some?" Xu Qing asked, puzzled.
"I want the kind with pants, not skirts." Jiang He, now with her own little savings, could buy whatever she wanted. However, she still needed Xu Qing's help to navigate online shopping; otherwise, she’d likely fall victim to misleading recommendations on Taobao. Terms like pure cotton, lace, mesh, silk, and other baffling options were beyond her grasp, and she wasn’t sure which would be both comfortable and cost-effective.
"Skirts look so nice, though," Xu Qing mumbled, reluctantly taking her phone to search for pajamas.
As he scrolled through Taobao, the search results were dominated by summer styles: bare arms, bare legs, and some even with half-exposed rears."Summer’s coming. You should get something short and lightweight. What about something like what you’re wearing now? Where’s the belt for it?"
Xu Qing glanced at the loose pajamas Jiang He was wearing and vaguely recalled that it came with a belt, though it didn’t look like she used it.
"In my room," Jiang He replied.
"Why don’t you use it?" Xu Qing asked, puzzled.
Jiang He fetched the belt, stretched it out, and let Xu Qing wrap it around her waist. Her silhouette, slender and elegant from martial arts training, had no excess fat. With the belt cinching her waist, her once-loose pajamas now hugged her figure, nearly causing Xu Qing a nosebleed from the sudden transformation from cute to stunning.
"I don’t like it... What are you doing?" Jiang He looked down at her cinched waist and then up at Xu Qing, noticing his odd expression.
"Martial artists are terrifying…" Xu Qing muttered.
He had bought these pajamas for her as the weather warmed, and she’d been wearing them as a loose robe. He only now realized that a simple belt could bridge the gap between adorable and alluring.
"You’re saying weird things again," Jiang He said, feeling uneasy under his gaze. She pulled off the belt and handed him the phone, urging him to pick pajamas for her. She then returned to her computer.
Her current outfit was nice, but it wasn’t practical for sitting cross-legged or lounging like last time when Xu Qing had pulled her onto his lap—it would inevitably ride up. The thick winter pajamas were no longer an option as the weather grew hotter.
Xu Qing scrolled through Taobao, seriously searching for options while reclining on the couch. A moment later, he called out, "How about this one?"
Jiang He came over to check. On the screen was a two-piece set with a short-sleeved top and knee-length shorts, long enough to cover the thighs.
"Are there longer ones? Like ones that cover the whole leg?"
"There are, but they’d be too hot. This one’s nice—it’s comfortable and you can jump or roll around on the couch without worrying about it riding up."
Xu Qing had grasped her thoughts. Recently, she hadn’t lounged on the couch with the cat because she was worried about her skirt riding up. Even though it was just the two of them at home, accidentally exposing the floral-patterned white underwear she’d worn that day would still be embarrassing.
And how did Xu Qing know about the white floral pattern? He’d helped her buy it.
"Your calves aren’t an issue…" Xu Qing said, catching a whiff of her faint fragrance as she leaned in. He reached out to pat her leg. "We can get one size larger; it’ll be longer and more comfortable. I’ll get a blue set for myself, and you can have this pale yellow one."
"Alright, this one then," Jiang He finally agreed. Standing before him, the ends of her hair brushed his face. She hesitated, then asked, "Do you think I’m… weird? Other people wear those kinds." She gestured to the other options on Taobao.
"No, you’re not weird. Everyone is different, and personal preferences vary."
Xu Qing handed the phone back to her, putting on the air of a gentleman. "You’re perfectly normal, and so am I."
"Oh." Jiang He felt reassured, checked the estimated delivery date on the app, and returned to her computer.
Lately, she had mastered many computer shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+Delete for Task Manager or locking the screen. She’d even changed her password to prevent Xu Qing from peeking at her searches for strange topics.
Xu Qing peeked over her shoulder and saw a tutorial titled From Beginner to Pro: A Comprehensive Computer Guide. Shrugging, he said nothing. Knowing the basics was fine, but being proficient could sometimes be useful.
"Go to bed early," he reminded her before walking away. Halfway to the living room, he turned back, hugged her from behind, and said, "Goodnight."
"Want a goodnight kiss?" Jiang He asked with a smirk.
"Uh…"
Unlocking one boundary tended to open the door for more. Xu Qing resisted, determined to maintain his gentlemanly image and set a proper tone for the approaching summer.
After his shower, he nearly walked into the wrong room out of habit. Under Jiang He’s amused gaze, he sternly reminded her not to crawl into the wrong bed before retreating to his storeroom.
The storeroom’s light was dim, unlike the bright main bedroom. Curtains covered the window, though it wasn’t necessary since the view outside was just a wall. No one would be peeking in.
The living room window faced outward, but it was frosted for privacy. Xu Qing lay on his bed, scanning the small room. Even the corners had been cleaned by Jiang He, making this shabby little space feel like her private sanctuary. Inside, it was cut off from the outside world, whether it was the Tang Dynasty’s Kaiyuan era or the present day. Only one person from the outside could share this life with her.
Looking at the ceiling, Xu Qing suddenly felt connected to Jiang He’s thoughts. After a moment, he closed his eyes, but the faint scent lingering in the room caught his attention.
Stretching his hand to the side, he found a long strand of hair.
"Jiang He…"
Xu Qing’s expression softened as he carefully held the strand of hair, sitting up and unrolling it gently.
Summer was coming, and he already anticipated her reluctance to share the air-conditioned room, choosing to endure the heat out of shyness or other reasons.
Since they were now a couple, he would naturally find a way. Sharing her room in the summer heat was the perfect solution—she’d agree then.
As for installing another air conditioner in the storeroom? Only a fool would do that.
Gazing at the strand of hair under the light, Xu Qing carefully placed it on the bedside table.
Yes, this bed was surprisingly comfortable.
