The hunters stared in front of them, wondering who it was that had decided to step up, to step up and block the attack. After seeing what it had done to one of the hunters, not a single one of them wanted to try to get in its way.
All of their instincts were telling them to move, but oddly, it felt like they had been frightened with fear the moment they had seen Lupus in the area. Seeing someone do something, they wondered, was it one of the five-star hunters, or had Edvard finally arrived to help them?
But it wasn’t him at all; instead, they could see an unfamiliar back of a person who had only just joined them recently.
“Hey, that’s the talented new guy, right?” One of the hunters asked.
“Ah, yeah, the one who was really skillful against Pluto, and he just blocked that arm with his fist!”
“What are we doing?” Another asked. “We were so struck by fear, but the new guy is the one protecting us; we’re pathetic!”
Austin’s actions had snapped the others out of their daze of fear. If they wanted to live through this encounter, then it was best for them to be present in their mind, and it was the opening they needed.
“If the new guy is fighting, we have to help him!”
The others agreed, ready to move to Austin’s side, until they saw him move his hand from behind, as if he was telling them to stop.
“No!” Austin shouted. “I know you want to help, but all of you are nothing to him. If you get involved, you will just be throwing away your lives. It’s best for all of you to just run back in that Garden and hide somewhere.”
The hunters grunted as they heard these words. Sure, they were happy to have the strong rookie protecting them, but they were hunters with their own sense of pride.
“We’re staying!” A hunter shouted. “What makes you different to us anyway? Why do you think you’re strong enough to beat him compared to us? You’re the same; it’s better if we do this together.”
Seeing the group argue against each other caused Lupus to go into a deep belly of laughter.
“You said that I didn’t expect you to be here?” Lupus asked as he sniffed the air. “You’re right, I expected those from the settlement to be among the hunters, but I am surprised that there is an Altered among the Altered hunters…and judging by your hit, quite a strong one as well.”
“You’re an Altered.” The hunters looked at Austin from behind in disgust, even stepping away.
Austin hadn’t spent a lot of time with the other hunters. He had barely spoken to them the whole trip. They just had a positive view of him due to his outstanding performance against Pluto.
So to hear this now, their target in front of them, who had lied to them and was the enemy. They didn’t even care for his strength right now.
“Damn it, were we tricked?”
“Does that even matter right now?” Austin shouted back. “If I’m protecting you, does it even matter if I’m an Altered or not, all of you just freaking leave!”
Lupus had been good so far, doing next to nothing, but Austin could tell his patience was wearing thin. He was finding the whole argument and conversations between them fun, which was why he hadn’t acted out, but now he took a step forward and was clearly moving toward them.
“You throw a strong punch, but let’s see if you can take a strong punch.” Lupus clenched his fist and kicked off the ground. The concrete on the floor broke as he pushed himself ahead.
The fist slammed right into Austin’s stomach, and immediately he was lifted off his feet. He was hurled through the air and crashed into the large truck that was used to protect the equipment.
His body broke through the metal exterior, and the whole truck fell off its side due to the force.
The hunters were left in disbelief and were unsure if they should move or try to run, just like they had done before.
“Did I hit him too hard?” Lupus thought. “But his body felt strong.”
Lupus, confident in his strength, felt he was no weaker than any others, and that included Harvor. Harvor, who had the strength to throw a punch fully transformed that would take out a Werewolf with high endurance like Gary.
Perhaps if Lupus had punched any other Altered, it would have had the same effect, but he had punched a Mythical type Altered, one that was known for its strong resilience, and one that had recently evolved.
A hand was seen on the metal edge of the truck, and then pulling itself out, large twirling horns were seen at the side, along with fur around its body.
Soon the hunters could see the rest of its face come into view, looking like that of a bull, along with the ring around its mouth. The muscular creature had come out and was now standing on top of the truck.
It looked like the mythical beast, the Minotaur, only different, with its long, winding horns by the side of its head.
‘This evolved form of mine is what I used to take down Apollo back then,’ Austin thought. ‘With an opponent as strong as this, I have no choice but to go all out from the beginning…but back then, I didn’t understand that form properly.’
Austin then jumped off, landing back on the ground, his form even frightening the hunters behind him as they felt a heavy presence around him.
‘I learnt that this form is far stronger than I imagined, and I learnt a few new tricks with it, just in case for this day!’
