The worries that Kai had, they were warranted. He could tell that Gary wasn’t struggling with the fight, but with just how much strength to use.
He couldn’t beat his opponent, that would be too much for apprentices, but at the same time, he needed to show something.
In a lot of ways, Gary was probably already showing enough by how well he was blocking against Pluto’s attacks.
The issue was, there seemed to be some stupid grudge between Blackjack and Saiber that was getting in the way, and Saiber was trying to use this as an opportunity to get at Blackjack.
‘These stupid fools, and they’re meant to be veteran adults,’ Kai thought.
Once again, Pluto had charged in just like before. This time, he looked to go for a thrust instead of a swing.
It would be hard to block such a strike with the handle of the warhammer.
Noticing this, on instinct, Gary had choked up on the handle, placing his hands near the top, and then moved the head of the Hammer to stop the strike.
Gary was being pushed back through the ground as he held on. He could feel that there was real weight to the attack.
“Another block, typical,” Saiber said. “Will your apprentice ever strike? Our name are Altered Hunters, not Altered Blockers.”
Right after, Gary tried to move away, when he could feel a large amount of pressure on his foot. He could feel that Pluto had stomped on it.
‘This weight and strength, this isn’t the normal strength of a human either!’ Gary thought. ‘I could pull away with my own strength, but if I do that, then won’t it be obvious what I am?’
In the middle of those thoughts a leg had been raised and Gary was kicked right in the face. His head twisted with the hit.
[-1HP]
It was a powerful kick, that resounded loudly within the area. People could tell it would hurt, or at least it would have hurt anyone else.
Gary’s endurance was so hard that the kick had only done minimal damage to him.
However, Gary tried to put on an act, and dived onto the ground still holding onto the warhammer.
“So, when do we move in, in a situation like this,” Austin said under his breath.
Kai wasn’t sure if he was imagining it or not, but he felt like he could see visible steam coming out his nose.
“Calm down, you know that Gary won’t get seriously hurt from something like that. He’s not in any trouble at all,” Kai replied, but could very well feel his own anger building up inside him.
Saiber finally had a smile on his face as he looked across at Blackjack.
‘Pluto coming from the Dark Guild knows how to utilize that special Qi power or whatever it is,’ Saiber thought. ‘He used it on that boy’s foot, when he stepped on it. It would be impossible for him to escape. Your apprentice is going to be made a fool of today.’
Gary had quickly gotten up off the ground and shook his head, trying to imitate he was hurt.
‘I tell you what, maybe I should go to AJ entertainment after this, I think I’m putting on quite the show. Maybe I should be an actor after I retire from all of this gang business,’ Gary thought.
Getting ready again, this Gary thought he got a hang of things. It was clear they wanted him to attack to show something so that’s what he would do.
When defending from the attack before, he realized when he had his hand up by the head of the weapon it was easier to move and control.
He didn’t swing with its full weight, and if he aimed for the man’s sword rather than another part of his body, then everything should be okay.
Gary waited and he could see Pluto coming in again, then he carefully placed his hands up by the head, and swung it right at him.
Just then though, Pluto spat out from his mouth, and hit Gary straight in the eye. The spit was forceful and fast and it had startled Gary causing his war hammer to swing and hit nothing in the air.
Right after Gary felt a fist right to his face hitting him hard.
[-2HP]
Then, before he could even do anything else, he felt a kick to his legs that had done no damage to him at all, but caused him to land on his back.
When Gary had wiped the spit away from his eyes, he could see a sword was pointed right at him.
“What was that?” Austin shouted. “The hunter just spat on him. Why are you fighting so dirty in an assessment!”
Kai couldn’t agree more, and it was taking everything to go over there and give them what they deserved. The thing was Gary was still calm in this situation so they felt it was wrong of them to be the first to act, when Gary was being so calm about it all.
“That’s enough!” Saiber said. “Firstly, there is no fighting dirty in the Altered hunters world. We are fighting against non-human creatures that have the advantage against us.
“We use weapons, we use special armor, and we fight in groups if we have to. We do whatever we can to win the fight. Pluto was doing just that.
“When fighting you should be prepared for your opponent to do the same thing, to do anything to win.”
Although it might have been an excuse for Pluto’s actions, it was a good one that they couldn’t really argue against.
“And one more thing,” Saiber added. “There’s no need to see anymore from this apprentice, I think we can safely say, that he has failed the test.”
