The group didn’t ask many questions about what a Wight was, or what they did. It didn’t seem appropriate for some reason, they didn’t even ask what vampires were capable of either.
Because there was just something that felt intrusive. Maybe if they were all just curious humans, they wouldn’t mind, but it was hard to not see the two as, well, mortal enemies.
Maybe it was the annoying twitch they felt in their nose, that made Gary still feel a little off, but he was thankful that at least Blackjack was there.
“I didn’t know you were part of the Altered hunters?” Gary asked. “Is that why you were locked up in the first place?”
“Precisely.” Blackjack groaned as he slapped the top of his head. It was clear he was thinking about the past events.
“We settlement members have ways of getting out of situations using our ways. Let’s just say our persuasion techniques and words go a long way,” Blackjack stated. “I was perhaps too confident in this and used it on the wrong individual. After that, I had to try to fight and escape, and then he saw how strong I was.
“He didn’t think it was possible that I was just a regular human, so they put me in with the rest, and I was stuck down there until you came along. Anyway, this helps both of us, but first, we need to do something about your look.” Blackjack pointed to Gary’s head.
Everyone knew what Gary looked like, and just wearing a wig to change his hair color would do some, but it wasn’t going to be enough.
“He does have a point Gary, I think now it’s not just your green hair, but everything about you stands out, and they would notice you in a heartbeat.”
“Well, I think I can help with that.” Miss Degrace said as she had just come up from the bottom of the staircase and had a bag on her.
According to Miss Degrace, there were a few times in her life where she needed to look like an entirely different person in order to escape a few people.
That included some men that she would go on dates with maybe just once and they would end up being incredibly persistent.
Miss Degrace had access to a number of hair extensions that she would use and was attaching them to Gary’s already existing wig.
Now his hair came down by the side of his face, covering up most of his jaw line.
After that, she used some of her eyebrow filler to give them a thicker look.
This, although would be temporary since it would come off at some point, when first meeting someone it was important to look different and the changes slowly alter.
Lastly, adjusting the hair extensions, she had decided to use a temporary fixture where Gary could attach it to his beard. It was finely threaded on his face, so it didn’t look like just a normal full beard one could buy.
When Miss Degrace was done and Gary looked in the mirror, he looked as if he had aged around 8 years.
“Facial hair…I think this might be the first time I’ve had facial hair in my life, is this what it’s like?” Gary said as he went to rub it.
“Careful.” Miss Degrace called out. “It looks good and will be able to take some rough treatment, but if you rub it too much they’ll fall out and completely disappear.”
Gary imagined that meant if he got into a rough fight, or used any of his transformations they would appear as well.
In the first place, large alterations couldn’t be made to any of his body, including that of his green hair because it would just heal itself back to what it thought his original form was.
The thing was, Gary had no facial hair to start with, and even though he had aged quite a bit, he still had no facial hair.
So turning full wolf and back, would certainly get rid of his facial hair, and he would be lucky if he could somehow keep his wig on again.
“Lately I feel like I’ve been needing to disguise myself more and more,” Gary said as he looked at himself.
“That’s the issue with being famous,” Kai said. “You brought it on yourself, you know you never had to challenge Harvor to an AFC match, there could have been other ways we dealt with the AFC gang. That would have made you less famous.”
Gary didn’t say anything, at the time he was trying to hurt Harvor as much as he could because of Jayden, and there was the whole issue with Xin as well.
Being AFC champion was always Gary’s dream, and in a way the public crowned him as unofficial champion so he had gotten what he wanted.
“Alright, alright let’s not waste a lot of time.” Blackjack said. “With that all done, now we need to head to meet with the others. The Altered hunters that are part of this expedition are camped in the woods up a mountain side around thirty minutes drive out of Slough.
“They are expecting you three but I need to warn you about them. First, some of the Altered hunters can be very arrogant about their star ranking. If you are below them they feel that whatever they say you must do.
“You guys are coming in as our apprentices, which means you’re at the bottom of the barrel. No matter how much they annoy you, remember for this task that they are on our side in all this, so let them be.
“Second, all of you might have to prove why you should be allowed on this mission. Don’t go overboard, but don’t fail otherwise we’re going to have annoying problems on our hands.” Blackjack informed, and wlaked over handing each of them a large bag of clothes. As they looked inside they coudl see it was the Altered hunter Unifrom along with a black mask and other things. They didn’t change into them just yet and the entire group left the Wolf’s Pool Club.
When wandering outside, they could see three jet black sports bikes just parked up on the street.
“This is…quite the way to travel,” Gary said with a smile. “Make an impression on the Altered Howlers…what a turn in paths this is.”
