My Girlfriend is a Zombie

Chapter 1020: Just the Beginning

Chapter 1020: Just the Beginning

“Two minutes are almost up, come out!” Ling Mo shouted, standing amidst the chaos in the hall. He had kicked over two ladders and sent a plastic bucket used for cement flying. The bucket landed with a dull thud and slowly rolled into the darkness.

Three seconds later, Mu Chen and the others came running in, drenched in sweat. A zombie, not quite dead yet, was dragging half its body towards them, only to be finished off by Ye Kai, who was leaning against a concrete pillar, panting. He caught the knife that flew back to him, flicked off the blood droplets, and said, “Two minutes are up, where is he?”

Mu Chen, holding his gun, cautiously moved deeper into the hall, scanning around the bare pillars, and shouted, “Game’s over, are you planning to renege? Hey! Hurry up and come out!”

But after shouting a couple of times, he suddenly realized Ling Mo had somehow moved nearby.

Mu Chen glanced around cautiously, then walked over and whispered, “What’s up? Did you find something?”

“Actually, I have a theory…” Ling Mo said, lowering his voice and quickly whispered a few words to him.

Mu Chen was taken aback, then said, “Is that possible? I’ll go tell…”

“Wait, don’t tell the others,” Ling Mo stopped him.

“Why? Are you planning… to only tell me?” Mu Chen asked, puzzled.

“About this… did you notice anything unusual? Not now, but when you first started the game…” Ling Mo asked instead.

“What is it?” Mu Chen remained bewildered.

Ling Mo looked at him for a moment, about to speak, when a voice suddenly came from behind.

“Captain, Instructor.”

Both of them were startled and turned to look.

It was Skinny Monkey… He swallowed nervously and said, “You guys need to come and see this.”

Skinny Monkey’s discovery was on a concrete pillar… He pointed to a spot on the pillar and said to the gathered crowd, “Look here, I just found this…”

“What is it…”

As soon as Ling Mo saw what was on the pillar, a chill ran up his spine.

There, drawn on it, was a red arrow…

“It’s pointing over there…” Gu Shuangshuang turned her head, following the arrow into the depths of the hall.

Everyone instantly understood the meaning of the arrow… The monster wasn’t planning to come out; it had more tricks up its sleeve. The “two-minute game” was just the beginning… 𝖗АΝоꞖÊ𝓢

“What do we do?” Gu Shuangshuang asked, as everyone exchanged glances.

Ling Mo stared intently at the arrow. He had seen this kind of drawing not too long ago. But that was in the sewer, and the one who left the arrow wasn’t a Monster, but Yuwen Xuan.

“Is it that Transformed Monster? Or Tang Hao behind it? Judging by the timing, it couldn’t have been the little girl herself…” Ling Mo understood the hidden meaning behind the arrow more clearly than the others. It was a message: I’m watching you.

At the same time, it was a reminder to Ling Mo that the opponent would adjust its plans based on his appearance. He was an unexpected variable that would be “corrected.” In other words, he might surprise it momentarily, but he couldn’t continuously affect its experiments.

“Heh…” Ling Mo couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh at the thought.

“You want to play? Fine… let’s see how it goes…”

Just then, Zhang Xincheng reached out and scraped the arrow with his finger. “Did you notice? This was drawn just now, and it’s… with blood.”

“Just drawn?” Everyone immediately turned to look at Skinny Monkey.

Suddenly being stared at by so many eyes, Skinny Monkey frantically waved his hands. “No, no, no. I didn’t see anything. When I passed by here, the arrow was already there!”

“Regardless…” Ye Kai said, “that Monster showed up just now… Damn it, we didn’t catch it! Gu Shuangshuang, did you sense anything?” he asked.

Gu Shuangshuang’s face turned red. She looked at Ling Mo and whispered, “I… I…”

“This place interferes with psychic sensing,” Ling Mo said.

Gu Shuangshuang breathed a sigh of relief and gave Ling Mo a grateful smile. But seeing Ling Mo’s grim expression, her smile became awkward, and she lowered her head, blushing.

Of course, the captain isn’t in the mood to smile now… she thought.

“So, what do we…” Skinny Monkey asked cautiously.

“Follow the arrow,” Ling Mo decided.

Mu Chen glanced thoughtfully at Ling Mo, then frowned at Skinny Monkey.

Clearly, what Ling Mo had to say was something important, and Skinny Monkey’s discovery was just too coincidental…

Frustrating!

With everyone walking together now, it wasn’t the right time to ask questions. And Ling Mo, as if nothing had happened, led the way without mentioning a word…

This hall was clearly the blueprint of a Mall. After circling around a large pillar, a dark opening appeared before them… an unfinished Elevator shaft, with only a temporary wooden ladder set up there…

Below was the pitch-black underground “supermarket,” but now, looking down, all one could see was a pile of sand and a jumble of bricks strewn together.

“Bang!”

Ye Kai leaped down and picked up a brick, saying fiercely, “I’m going to smash its head with this brick later!”

“Do you want one?” He waved the brick and asked.

“I guess this is the place…” Skinny Monkey surveyed from above.

“Then let’s go down,” Ling Mo said, and jumped down too. Just before landing, he began to slow down and silently stepped onto the ground.

Mu Chen also jumped down, followed by Zhang Xincheng, who turned and leaped down, catching the edge with his hands. He paused and then let go, landing on the ground. Only Gu Shuangshuang and Skinny Monkey reluctantly chose to take the wooden stairs… the shaky feeling made them both sigh in relief once they were down.

“It looks like there are no new arrows here,” Ling Mo said, taking out a Flashlight and waving it around.

“Are there any Zombies?” Gu Shuangshuang asked nervously as he used the Flashlight.

“Don’t worry, the smell of blood has long drifted down here. But even if we don’t worry about Zombies…” Ling Mo was saying when suddenly, a Dark Shadow appeared in front of them. The shadow stood behind a pillar, showing half its face staring at them. The moment Ling Mo shone the light on it, it suddenly grinned and chuckled, “Hehe.”

As it stepped fully into the beam of light, everyone involuntarily gasped.

It was clearly a human… but its body was emaciated, with only its head being unusually large. Its blood-red eyes seemed as if they were about to bulge out, and blood was dripping from the gaps in its teeth.

“We’ve seen him before…” Mu Chen suddenly said.

Ling Mo was startled for a moment, then remembered… that figure hiding across the street, peeping at their window.

The big-headed creature’s hearing was evidently very good, and he chuckled again, saying, “It seems you recognize me… I also recognize you, I’m Miao Zhe.”

No one spoke… Introducing oneself in such a scenario with such a person felt incredibly eerie…

“Where are the others?” Miao Zhe suddenly asked.

“They’re dead,” Ye Kai said coldly.

Miao Zhe nodded, his face showing no extra emotion… But after a moment of silence, he smiled again and lightly said, “Good riddance.”

“You might wonder why I would say that? Actually, each of us has reasons we shouldn’t continue to live…” Miao Zhe answered his own question, “Tang Hao and the others turned us into this, and then we made every new person who joined us like this… And it doesn’t stop there, the moment we saw you, the new kind, our first reaction wasn’t to communicate any information, but to use you as a stepping stone to escape all this…”

“That’s enough…” Ling Mo frowned.

“Hehe, you’re Ling Mo, right?” Miao Zhe looked at him and said, “This Mall is large, are you sure you can find what you’re looking for? But… I can show you the way, if you answer three questions.”

“You think you’re the Sphinx? You’re more like a corpse with a human face! Wouldn’t it be quicker to just beat the answers out of you?” Ye Kai raised his brick.
