Chapter 391
Trevor couldn’t bear hearing the words “senior sister” now, and tears uncontrollably streamed down his face.
….
Elder Grant was dumbfounded.
He hesitated for a moment. “Master, what’s wrong with you?”
Trevor wiped away his tears, pointing at the cushion in front of him. “Go ahead. It’s nothing. My eyes must have had a stroke.”
Elder Grant didn’t know what to say.
He took a seat in front of Trevor, and after seeing that the latter had calmed a bit and had stopped crying, Elder Grant said. “One of our Outer Sect disciples, a female disciple, didn’t show any potential when we assessed her bones as a child. But she queued up again yesterday, and her physique feels as if she’s practiced Child Kung Fu. Master, I think she might be as good as the Senior Sister. Don’t you want to take a look?”
As soon as he finished speaking and looked up, he saw Trevor was in tears again.
Elder Grant was dumbfounded.
He couldn’t help but ask, “Master, are you really okay?”
Trevor, wiping his tears, choked up as he said, “It’s fine. I’m fine.”
Elder Grant continued. “I haven’t assessed the bones of adults before, so my judgment isn’t precise. You have an eye for talent and were able to spot what made Senior Sister different. You’ll definitely be able to spot… Oh no, Master, why are you crying again? Should we take you to the hospital?”
“There’s… no need… for that,”
Trevor’s voice trembled uncontrollably. “I… haven’t been feeling well lately… Let her participate in the Outer Sect competition. If she can enter the Inner Sect, then I’ll go take a look… ”
Elder Grant said, “Alright, alright. Then Master, I’ll be leaving now. You get some good rest.”
Trevor heaved a sigh of relief, just about to nod, when he heard Elder Grant add. “You have to take care of yourself. Just think about Senior Sister. She’ll be back soon, and if she sees you like this, she’ll definitely be distressed…”
Trevor sobbed. “Just go already.”
After Elder Grant left the room, he finally took a deep breath.
The Freeman Sect had never missed any child with talent; it was the mission of the Bone Assessment hall!
After assessing “Keera’s” unusual bone structure yesterday, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, fearing they might miss out on a promising talent, which led him to consult Trevor today.
With such a physique, it shouldn’t be difficult for her to enter the Inner Sect. She could at least take third place.
“I’ll have Trevor take a look later!”
…
Jackson was on his way to the Disciplinary Hall when he ran into James.
James had been screening candidates, and today’s selections weren’t strict, giving an opportunity to all the Outer Sect disciples. Many of them, having heard the news, rushed over even though they hadn’t originally signed up.
Startled, he hastily dumped the ensuing mess onto his third junior brother and turned around just to hear that Keera had gotten into trouble!
James immediately rushed over, and, sure enough, saw Jackson approaching the Disciplinary Hall. He went straight up to block his way.
Jackson looked at James and respectfully said, “Second Senior Brother.”
James was always straightforward, and although the Gill family was one of the five major families, in Freeman Sect, one’s background was never considered, only martial arts ranking.
Hence, James could almost do as he pleased within the sect. He ordered. “Keera is under my protection. Steer clear of her from now on!”
Although he disliked that Keera had a gigolo, which was an insult to his third uncle, since his third uncle was going to host a banquet in four days, Keera needed to be spotless.
Hearing this, Jackson immediately frowned, glanced around, and said, “Second Senior Brother, don’t tell me you fancy her too?”
James immediately scolded him. “Don’t talk nonsense. She’s my third… Anyway, just leave her alone! Don’t go to the Disciplinary Hall, even if you do, I’ll say I told her to hit you. Let’s see what you’ll do then!”
Jackson immediately lowered his head. “Second Senior Brother, your orders will be followed.”
Only after James left did he relax.
But once James was gone, Jackson raised his head again. There was a sinister look in his eyes as he touched his neck.
Even now, it still ached faintly as if it were about to break.
“I must take my revenge!” A hint of mockery flashed in his eyes.
After winning today’s competition, Keira confirmed the schedule for the next few days with Matias and then left, returning home with Lewis.
But unexpectedly, just as they reached their doorstep, she received a call from Matias.
Matias said bluntly, “Keira, that Jackson is just too malicious. The moment you left, he began to spread rumors about you in the Freeman Sect, saying you…”
The words following were too ugly for him to even say out loud.
Keira sneered coldly. “Say what about me?”
Matias sighed. “He said you’re promiscuous, that you and your best friend Mary are nothing but prostitutes, that his brother Austin slept with Mary, and he slept with you…”
Keira’s pupils suddenly constricted. She hadn’t expected Mary to also get dragged into this mess. On Mary’s end… there was already ambiguity about the child’s origin. Wouldn’t such a rumor be utterly soul-crushing? How was Mary going to live through this?
Keira’s face instantly darkened, and she turned to Lewis, raging. “Find Austin!!” She had to make Austin put an end to this rumor!
Meanwhile, at the Olsen residence, Mary was still unaware of the idle gossip outside as she descended from the bedroom, ready to have dinner with her family. Today was the Olsen family’s family banquet. Every Tuesday, members of the Olsen family’s third branch would gather for a meal.
As Mary just came downstairs, she saw James and a few other brothers looking at her with unfriendly, even hostile, eyes. She furrowed her brows, still clueless about what happened. Everyone was sitting on the sofa, waiting for the family elders to arrive.
Victoria, seeing that the place usually occupied by Christina was empty, felt a sense of crisis. She suddenly said, “Mary, do you know Austin?”
The question made Mary furrow her brows and think carefully. “I suppose I do. I’ve negotiated a collaboration with him before; the Davis Corporation also has business dealings with the Gill family.”
Victoria immediately retorted with sarcasm, “So, it was really you who went to discuss the collaboration.”
Mary was taken aback. “Yes.”
In the past, the Davis Corporation’s many collaborations typically involved her accompanying her uncle. She knew what her uncle was up to, but for the sake of her parents, she had no choice but to go along even if she was unwilling.
Yet, as soon as she spoke, James slammed his teacup heavily onto the coffee table.
“Crash!”
The water from his teacup splashed out, as James fiercely turned to Mary. “Mary, how can you say ‘yes’ so righteously? How can you face my brother?”
Mary was perplexed.
Victoria handed her a cell phone. “This has been circulating in the circle today; it’s filled with little stories about you and Austin. The details are surprisingly clear. Mary, I think you owe the Olsen family an explanation!”
