Chapter 764: Chapter 764: Encounter with Lizardmen

The convoy moved at an impressive speed, initially passing by many pedestrians. But as time ticked on, the streets became desolate and deserted.

Putting aside the alien players, the rampaging undead alone had already proven to be troublesome.

Even though many years had passed, the undead had grown rampantly, devoid of their own will and, by strict definitions, did not belong to the Scourge Legion.

These undead roamed aimlessly across the land, attacking any and every living creature they came across.

During their journey, they encountered several groups of these undead. Li Yao didn’t interfere, and they didn’t bother him either, making for a surprisingly leisurely journey.

Like this, they traveled until darkness fell. It was a peaceful journey, and if they continued to travel through the night, they’d reach their destination by dawn.

Those who decided to continue the journey overnight napped in the cargo truck. That night, the twin moons weren’t bright, leaving only pure starlight to shine. Even nocturnal creatures would be affected under such circumstances.

While everyone was in a daze, Li Yao suddenly opened his eyes and said in the team channel: “Quiet, something’s happening.”

Everyone immediately jolted awake. Golden Fire, who had been keeping an eye on the surroundings, said loudly: “What’s the matter? I didn’t see anything. How do you know something’s wrong?”

“Idiot.” Li Yao was suddenly engulfed in anger. He could have feigned ignorance and caught the enemy off guard. Their opponents only had five people, yet Li Yao didn’t have any confidence in his overconfident teammates.

At this stage, only the truly top-tier players could combat these aliens. Yet even these elite players would be helpless in the face of high-level aliens.

“Shut up,” Purple-Golden Raging Fire said coldly. Glancing around, he couldn’t see anything unusual, so he asked, “Are you sure? Where’s the disturbance coming from?”

Li Yao replied calmly: “They’re up ahead to our left, steadily approaching. It’s a small enemy squad.”

“Ha, ha, ha. One enemy squad against our two squads. You’re making a fuss over nothing”, said Tianzhen, a Priest of Light, who immediately began to relax.

But before he could finish speaking, a golden light shone, followed by the crash of a massive tree falling ahead of them.

Almost simultaneously, a tree behind their team also came crashing down, blocking their convoy in the middle of the road.

Everyone blanched in shock. This small enemy squad was audacious, boldly halting their team with such confidence. Shadows could already be seen in the hazy night.

These shadows came from robust figures, swift and agile, each with a lizard’s head. They believed themselves to be descendants of black dragons, possessing the bloodline of dragons.

“Form ranks, form ranks,” said Purple-Golden Raging Fire. He shot Golden Fire a harsh glare. That Li Yao, an inferior player in his opinion, had detected the enemy presence earlier than him, left him feeling disgraced. If Golden Fire hadn’t mocked him out loud, they could have counter-attacked, but now they were forced to play defense. He was well aware of alien players’ combat capabilities.

Li Yao prepared to jump off the truck, but Tianzhen sneered, “You’re too weak. You’ll only break our formation.”

Li Yao paused momentarily, a cold light shining in his eyes. He then backflipped to the other side, transforming into a blood-red shadow.

Although not a true stealth move, in the darkness of the night, it was almost as good as one.

With a thud…

The enemy team flung two bottles at them. Purple-Golden Raging Fire’s two tank players immediately shattered the bottles.

A burst of flame and green toxic gas began to spread.

“It’s poison!” Golden Fire responded, as thick flames ignited from the bottle and engulfed the two tanks, but they could not block the spreading toxin. Players who inhaled the gas felt their actions slowing down.

Incendiary bombs and slowing toxin bottles were common purchases from general stores, but human players rarely used them due to their limited effectiveness and high cost.

Their formation had been hasty in the first place, and these two bottles of concoctions had thrown them into further disarray.

The two main tanks were about to charge the Lizardman players when they saw two more bottles flying towards them. Desperately, they raised their shields to intercept. They weren’t scared of the incendiary bombs, but the damage they could do to the squishy party members was a major concern.

Just as they raised their shields, the enemy’s Shield Warrior, equipped with a small round shield, and the Berserker, wielding a great sword, charged straight at them.

The two enemy players hit the tanks hard, who were slowed by the toxin and reacted slower than usual.

The slightest delay allowed the enemies to stun them. The Lizardmen players didn’t stop there, charging for the second time.

One of them struck the Mage while the other aimed for the healer in the middle.

The Lizardman Mage then cast a blizzard spell, further slowing the nine players.

“Spread out quickly!” ordered Purple-Golden Raging Fire.](b) He turned to kill the two Lizardman players chopping away at the squishy characters.

The formation of the entire team was thrown into further chaos. The Lizardman’s Rogue also went into stealth mode, but instead of charging the team, he hid behind the convoy.

The two Lizardmen who had infiltrated the ranks of the team launched a violent attack.

Being charged would cause a one-second stun, enough to interrupt the Mage’s area spells as well as the healer’s spells.

But it wasn’t over. The Shield Warrior launched a Thunder Strike, causing a streak of lightning to slam into the Mage.

Successfully dodging the imminent attack from behind by Purple-Golden Raging Fire, the Shield Warrior bashed his shield, stunning the dazed Mage once more. With a flurry of Cleaving Strikes, Thunderclap Tramples, and strong blows, he smoothly executed his attacks while avoiding incoming attacks.

The Lizardman Berserker was even more ferocious — he activated the Whirlwind Slash ability. A single Whirlwind Slash discouraged anyone from getting close. The healer was instantly killed by the multiple hits from Whirlwind Slash.

The priest healer was already disadvantaged with his short legs, so even if he woke from the stun, he couldn’t outrun the Whirlwind Slash. Slowed down by the blizzard and gas, he was slowly cut to pieces by the Berserker’s Whirlwind Slash.

Meanwhile, the Lizardman healer provided their players with an Earth Shield. The Lizardman Mage stopped the blizzard and blinked into the middle of Purple-Golden Raging Fire’s team casting a Frost Nova.

As the frost spread, the remaining nine players were frozen in place.

Among the four attackers in the team with the faction badge, three hesitated whether to use it to break free from the ice, while Purple-Golden Raging Fire decisively used the badge.

He charged directly towards the Mage, who was now the most challenging opponent.

But the Lizardman Mage was no pushover. After casting the Frost Nova, he released an Ice Lance, with damage numbers floating above everyone’s heads.

As Purple-Golden Raging Fire initiated a charge, the Lizardman Mage sidestepped, positioning himself behind Tianzhen, the Priest of Light.

Deep Ice Freeze – this spell froze enemies affected by frost effects in their tracks. The damage received from frost spells would be doubled, and the damage of the Ice Lance spell would be quadrupled…
