Chapter 1140: 1140 The New Normal

Wolfe settled into a chair on the balcony of the northern spire to watch the sunset. They had been in the castle for three months already, and the third round of open hearings had just ended.

They had finally been manageable, and they had actual leisure time on the third day, it didn’t go until late in the evening this time. That was everything that they could have hoped for. Things were finally getting under control all over the globe, and the changes were slowly being implemented.

The biggest one so far was the Pentacle Members’ initiative to provide bulk raw material arrays for manufacturing plants.

Combined with a mana gathering array, they could be placed to turn out refined materials for new products, at the purest possible quality. Some of them had been more than a little complex to make, like the silicon wafers that the electronic manufacturers used for the base of their chips, but with an agreement that was twenty percent of retail price, the Pentacle members were making a killing.

It was all done through the Noxus Royal Family as a commercial group, and their business influence, leveraging the spells that only a powerful Magi could cast, had given them enough revenue that there was no need for taxation.

Officially, they treated the spells like a resource royalty. Normally, a government would charge a fee for resources extracted by corporations. That was the model they used for the arrays.

Nola, the Nymph, stretched out on the lounge chair beside Wolfe as he watched the sun go down over the mountains.

“You know, it’s not going to be long now before the children are born.” She informed him.

“It’s been five months. Unfortunately for the ladies, there are still nearly three months left.” Wolfe laughed.

The Nymph smirked. “So, they didn’t tell you?”

“Tell me what?” Wolfe asked, suddenly suspicious about what they were up to.

“At the end of the second month, they started with health and maturation magic to shorten their pregnancies. Some of the combat witches from the other continents will shorten them to three months and then heal the damage to their bodies, but they only took a few months off.

Give them a couple more weeks and the both of them should be ripe and ready to pop.”

Wolfe was somehow not shocked at that news. The fact that they had resisted the urge to shorten it even more when they were clearly miserable must have taken serious willpower, now that he knew that it was possible.

The other Witches must have known all along. They would have been able to tell what spells were being cast, and not just that it was Witch Magic, as Wolfe could.

“Give me some warning when it starts, will you? I get the feeling that the Witches want to be viewed a bit more independently, and not just as an extension of me.

They’ve been heavily pregnant since I took over, so they haven’t been able to really assert themselves despite being Saints.”

The Nymph laughed at Wolfe’s insight.

“You might be a bit slow, but you’re getting there, Your Majesty. It doesn’t help that so many people follow up the introduction as Queen by adding [Magi King Noxus’ wife]. It’s not like there are other Queens at most of those meetings, and they all know each other, so there is no need to remind everyone that their King is the one with the power.

Cassie usually lets things slide, but I suspect that Ella might hurt someone if it continues after she gives birth.”

Wolfe laughed. “Her magic works just fine. I’m surprised she hasn’t done it already.

But what brings you up here so late in the day? I heard that you like to sun yourself atop the tower, but it’s nearly dark now.”

Nola sighed. “Inside is annoying. All anyone wants to talk about is babies. When they can have their own, when these ones are coming, what they will look like.

I have been here three months and I still haven’t gotten to live out my dreams. There just aren’t enough opportunities, even though I got permission.”

Wolfe laughed quietly. She didn’t need permission to get herself ravaged in a tower by some muscular brute twice her size. Plus, Nymphs were short, all the men here were twice her size.

Then she took out a piece of paper with a pair of blue and violet wax seals on it, and Wolfe’s slow brain finally caught up.

It wasn’t a lack of availability, but a lack of opportunity. He had been too busy for her to con him into role playing her fantasy, even after she got permission.

They were still in the tower when the sun came up the next morning, but the Nymph was in a much better mood, even if she was moving a bit delicately through the destroyed remains of the tower’s furniture.

“I will get that repaired if you want to go clean up.” Wolfe suggested.

“Not just yet. Give me five more minutes to finish watching the sun come up.” She sighed.

Wolfe smiled as he cast the spells to rebuild all the furniture they had damaged and clean the room.

Then he sent a message for the maids to bring breakfast up.

“We can have breakfast before we go down. The others are still asleep, but Risa is outside the door at the bottom of the tower, waiting to give me the morning security briefing before the business day starts.”

Nola stretched out on the rebuilt lounge chair and winced at the sore muscles. “We should do this more often. I have so many ideas for new outfits. Next time we can bring the witches too.”

Wolfe shook his head. “You know, I think there was a glitch somewhere, and you swapped personalities with one of the Succubi.”

“I blame the witches and their romance books.”

Wolfe couldn’t argue with that. He had seen what the Witches wrote as romance, and it was not for impressionable Fae minds. Perhaps there should be warning labels for that.

Or not. Age restrictions were enough.
