Chapter 1120: 1120 In The Closet
Wolfe led them down into the underground levels that Stephanie had been making with the assistance of Drazzit and Monika. But instead of stopping at his own quarters, he went a bit further, to one of the unassigned rooms beneath them.
It would eventually be a recreation area, so they could do what they wanted with it. The easiest way to make sure that he had the spell working correctly was to just use it on something, but Cassie was in less of a hurry.
“Check the memory crystal for hints first. That way, you won’t have to redo entire areas once you are finished. We can spare a bit of time, and the rest of us will keep watch for visitors, should someone else show up early.” She insisted.
“Alright. Let’s see how this works.”
Wolfe sat down on the stone floor of the unfinished room and activated the memory crystal.
He found himself in a room that looked very much like the library at the Noxus House, but with a sky-blue and silver theme.
Seconds after he activated the crystal, a magical construct appeared in front of him.
“Welcome, King of the Noxus Family. Forgive me if I have gotten your designation incorrect, this crystal has limited information. If you are here for the knowledge of Spatial Magic, I will assume that you have already been tested to have some affinity with the element, so we will get started right away.” The image of an elderly man in black robes began.
Wolfe didn’t bother to correct him, as the crystal might send him away to be tested, and he had no way to do that.
There was no smooth transition, his memory was simply assailed with a flood of technical information about space, volume, physics and other mathematical equations.
He had never expected that the study of Spatial Magic was so reliant on core knowledge, but Wolfe shouldn’t have been surprised. The number of things that he could do with the other Elements grew rapidly as his understanding of the world and magic increased.
The Electromagnetism arrays that he used to create motors for their vehicles were nearly incomprehensible even to the Incubi who were currently studying with the Forest Grove engineers to be able to repair their fleet of aircraft.
They lacked the knowledge that Wolfe had learned in school about magnetic fields and electricity, as their whole lives had been magic-based. So, making the transition to a concept like Electromagnetism required either a very high aptitude with Lightning Magic, or more studying.
Once you had one of them, you could at least understand the arrays, even if you couldn’t recreate them.
That was the core of mechanical work, just knowing what was broken.
It was also the core of spatial magic. You had to know and understand how you were affecting space to make it work correctly, and to create a spell that wouldn’t interfere with spells around it.
The example that they used was a belt of storage pouches.
Their spaces would overlap, as they were all side by side and sharing a common base on the belt. So, you had to understand how the spaces interacted so that you could make them function at the same time without collapsing.
That same concept would come into play here.
The rooms would overlap with other expanded rooms, as Wolfe intended to use the spell all over the castle.
He would test with this entertainment space, which he intended to turn into a movie theatre, even though the space that he had chosen was no larger than a storage room or a Pilates classroom.
A full movie theatre for the Pentacles and the staff would be awesome, and they could replay memory crystals to show educational videos and all of the stored videos that the Noxus Library contained.
Thankfully, Wolfe had always done fairly well in math class, and while the new data made his brain hurt, it was settling in well, and he had a fairly good grasp on the concept of how expanded spaces interacted with other spaces around them.
There were two ways to do this. He could make an expanded space in this world, warping the space around it to be larger than it appeared. That was simple.
The second method was an entirely separate space, the most basic form of pocket dimension, but without any of its own rules and reliant upon the world that it was anchored to.
That was the best way to do pouches and other expanded spaces, as well as stabilized portals, which were an offshoot of the space element.
Wolfe was intrigued and followed along into the next lesson on stabilized separate spaces and portals.
As it turned out, the method of portal creation that they had been using was incredibly crude and inefficient. If you already knew where the two endpoints were and didn’t need to search for them or move between planets, a portal shouldn’t take any more mana than a fireball the same size.
The way they had been doing it, nobody under Rank Five could even channel enough mana to open a portal between cities.
Wolfe was certain that whoever had made this crystal would cry in shame if they found out how things were being done now that actual spatial magic had been lost.
[Now, it is time to return to your own space to practice. I look forward to seeing you for day two of our lessons.]
Wolfe briefly panicked that he might have been there for an entire day, just losing track of time. But when he opened his eyes, everyone was still in the room, looking at him expectantly.
“I finished the first lesson. I learned quite a few things, and it’s a bit embarrassing to realize how much we’ve forgotten. But I think I can do the room properly now.” He explained.
Wolfe began building layers of the array to create the space that he wanted, starting with the desired interior size and shape, then setting the separate space coordinates after briefly checking the space above the planet for magic that might interfere.
That was the easiest way that he had found in the basic lesson. Future lessons would show him how to do it in a completely separate space, but beginners affixed the array to the world, and set the coordinates somewhere in space, away from other spells.
With billions of times more visible room, there was little chance that two spells would interfere with each other, unless someone messed up during the creation.
The array settled onto the floor of the room, then Wolfe added a door of simple engraved silver, labelled ’Theatre’.
Then he added the couches and chairs, as well as the front screen to the room, and opened the door.
“Welcome to the theatre. Please, step inside and take a look.”
