Chapter 1117: 1117 Security Measures

Everything was finally planned, and the Coronation ceremony was only two days away, but for Wolfe, the stress was only increasing. Now that he was making things official, all of the factions that had been silently opposed to him taking over leadership would be planning to make their move.

They were unlikely to attack directly, as that was the most dangerous route, and it was common knowledge now that if you attacked Wolfe Noxus, he attacked back.

That could well cost them their countries in more ways than a largely symbolic monarch.

While everyone would be expected to follow Wolfe’s rules, it wasn’t like he was going to be governing and micromanaging the entire world directly. Instead, it would be managed through his advisors and the Guardians taking on the roles of the former leaders.

Much of that had already happened, and the Guardians were running most of the world already.

But the tension in the castle wasn’t all about their first major social function. I was obvious that as much as Wolfe worried that someone would cause problems, the staff was worried that they would be caught in the crossfire when it happened.

The Castle had the finest of defensive spells on the grounds, cast by Wolfe working with all five Pentacles, but that still wasn’t enough to calm the fears.

So, he had come up with a plan. Every staff member in the Palace already had a defensive amulet, but Wolfe had decided to add an additional measure because not everything could be prevented by the [Kind Intentions] spell.

Especially when it was political pressure.

So, he had assigned a group of armed guards who were all Rank Three Mages and Witches, to patrol in what would look like plain clothes to outsiders, and keep an eye on the staff.

The goal was to keep them from being harassed or interrogated, or even pressured to go along with questionable plans.

That was the easiest way to get around [Kind Intentions]. If they had no ill will, it was possible to sneak dangerous items into the Palace. The only real restrictions were that they couldn’t know what it was or strongly suspect that it was intended to hurt someone.

Politicians were generally considered to be consummate liars, so it would be their first tactic.

“Ladies, what do you think? Will this put everyone’s mind at ease?” Wolfe asked at the morning briefing for the staff.

It took a bit, but the staff quickly came up with one more trick.

The witches would make them an emergency token. If they were being pressured, they would activate the spell, and nearby staff would come to assist and relieve them without anyone nearby knowing what had happened.

It wasn’t possible to send words using that spell, but it was good not only for emergencies, but it could be activated at a lower level to signal that you needed assistance with your work.

For example, if additional people arrived at a meeting, you could call for another staff member, and not leave the guests waiting alone.

“Alright, I don’t see that being a problem. Miss Cassie can add that spell to all of your uniforms right now, and you can test it as you need it today.

Now, we all have plenty of work to do. The lottery on the exact arrival time of the earliest guests is up to seven hundred units, and I will mark the time on the board here in the kitchen after the first guests arrive.

Best of luck to you all.”

The staff laughed as Wolfe walked away. They hadn’t realized that he knew about their little bet, wagering on who would show up the earliest, with some of the wagers starting as early as this evening, an entire day and a half before the party started.

If they were arriving by carriage, such a thing would be normal and expected. However, the roads weren’t finished yet, so everyone would be arriving by portal, other than a select few who had booked parking spots at the airport for their private jets.

As they settled into an office to catch up on some paperwork, Ella turned to Wolfe with a question.

“Do you think that we’ve been putting too much emphasis on the party and stressing out the staff? It’s unlikely that there will be any problems, but I can feel their stress from here.” She asked.

“I suspect that the real issues will just be the tension between groups that never got along. Half of these countries don’t even have formal relations anymore, they just refuse to do business with each other.

We will need to get all of that smoothed out to get them all on track with the improvement plans, so I suspect there will be many small incidents of aggression.

Not so accidentally spilled drinks, staff tripped to spill food on fancy clothing, that sort of thing.

If they’re worried about actual violence or possibly even abduction, they won’t be as worried about what really does happen.” Wolfe suggested.

“So, you’re trying to trick them into thinking things are going smoothly by setting the bar incredibly low?” Ella laughed.

“The key to happiness is lowered expectations.”

Ella rolled her eyes at Wolfe’s lame joke and shot him a wink. “I do hope that you’re not applying that to the rest of your life. Because I can tell you right now, we are expecting only the best.”

“And you will have it. Speaking of which, I heard that the pentacle members have been encouraging the guests to bring you sweets. Perhaps you’ll get to try something truly unique this time.”

“Oh? What might there be that we haven’t tried yet?” Cassie laughed.

“I honestly have no idea, but that’s what makes it so fun. I heard that King Leandro has the entire Incubus Nation’s candy making industry vying to come up with something worthy of being presented and named after the event.

Can you imagine? You might get your name immortalized on a new form of candy.” Wolfe laughed.

Ella frowned. “If it’s not a good one, I am kicking his ass.”
