Chapter 1112: 1112 Andrea

As the lunch menu came out, the differences between the styles of the applicants became much more pronounced. Breakfast in the Fallen Empire and in most of the nations of this world was a simple thing, get food to get the day started.

But for the Fallen Empire, the Demon Kingdoms and the Fae, lunch was normally where you hosted guests for the first time during the day, and that meant a more fancy meal.

What that meal looked like was different for every region of every world, and the results were showing it.

The first option was from one of the Fearia Continent’s witches, a First Rank Witch who had done well with an oatmeal and simple pastries breakfast.

She had gone for curry buns and soup for lunch, which Wolfe found to be outstanding, but half of the others were staring at it in confusion.

The soup was a creamy and slightly spicy one, and it would be great for the cool mountain air while sitting outside at lunch. But the flavours were much different than many of the candidates were used to.

There was no meat in it, so the Fae had at least tried it, while the Demons loved it. A few of the human Pentacle members recoiled in fear at the scent of the spice, though.

“Are spicy foods not a thing where you came from?” Wolfe asked, seeing their response.

They shook their heads. “I’m not even certain I know what to expect of this.”

The chef frowned, then sighed and gestured to it. “I made it all mild, so it shouldn’t burn the mouth, even if you’re not used to spice.”

Hesitantly, they gave it a try, and a number of surprised gasps sounded through the kitchen.

That prompted the other Chefs to give it a try as well, taking a sample spoon of the soup.

“Well, it’s certainly a different flavour than what I had prepared. I see now why we’re all making so many dishes.” The congee making Witch from the Fearia continent laughed.

Her entry was a tomato vegetable soup with a selection of finger sandwiches cut into small triangles. It was a very normal sort of lunch to have during meetings, both for the residents of the other continents, and in Forest Grove.

The samples were finished, and the judges finished their notes while the candidates started on their dinner offering.

For this one, most of them seemed to have gone in grand style, showing off their skills as much as they could to make one last good impression that might get them the nod.

In fact, everything smelled so good that all of the judges were tempted to take just a little extra, to get one more taste. That was a strategy that the early finishers were counting on to sway things in their favour.

If the judges were full, they wouldn’t give as much consideration to the final options, as their bodies would want to reject the idea of more food. That would naturally make the last options rate lower than they might deserve, and give those judged before that point a bit more of a chance.

There were a few that really stood out.

A savoury rice dish with carrots and raisins, of all things. It was served with a portion of smoked tofu that simulated the flavour and texture of ribs better than Wolfe had expected.

Then there was a beef wellington that was absolutely delicious.

But the greatest of them all was an option from the Witch who had made the congee, Andrea. She had made a Royal Style seven-course dinner. Each option was a small portion on a plate designed to be served one after another to complement the flavours of the dish that came before.

Slowly, the dishes were finished, and as the chefs had expected, even with sample sized portions, many of the testers were struggling by the end of dinner.

“Alright, ladies, please pass your scores to the Ladies Cassie and Ella, and we will tally up the judges’ results.

There were no clear losers here. Even the few dishes that the testers were dubious about were well received once they were tried. So, whatever the result, this will not be a personal slight to anyone, and I would encourage the chosen Head Chef to keep the others in mind for the sous chefs, should they not be chosen as a Division Head.” Wolfe announced.

It took him a few minutes to tally up the answers, as they were by dish, and not all of the judges knew anyone’s name, much less everyone’s.

So, once he had his winner, he had to go through the list of applicants to determine what her name actually was and where she was from.

“Alright, the moment that we have all been waiting for.

Let me introduce you all to the Noxus Castle’s new Head Chef.

Andrea, of the Fearia Continent.

With a combined score that was at least one point higher than any other candidate’s with every species present, she has shown us the sort of versatile and widely accepted cooking that a castle hosting guests from many backgrounds will need.

Andrea, would you like to say a few words?” Wolfe asked.

The winner stepped up with happy tears in her eyes, and hugged her way through the nearby Pentacle members before bowing to Wolfe.

“Thank you so much. It is an honour to hear that so many species like my cooking. I’ve never really cooked for anyone but the Council Families before, so I wasn’t certain that anyone but the Witches would like my cooking.

I will do my very best to learn more about all of our guests, so the kitchens can always have just the right options available.”

There was more clapping, and another extended round of hugs before Wolfe got to his feet.

“Now that we’ve gotten sidetracked, I do believe that it is time to finish selecting the rest of our department heads, so we can start to get everything working around the castle.

There will be applicants for the other jobs arriving here soon, and we will need our head maid chosen and the others ready to work before that happens.” He explained.
