Chapter 1101: 1101 Scouting
“Why don’t we go to the airport, and take a helicopter to go scout the mountains? We can pick one nearby that is easily accessible, and then we can build our new castle there with everything that the Pentacle members need.
I will even make a portal straight from a blackened room to the Noxus House, so you can go to the Library and make copies of everything that you might want or need.
That way if something happens to either location, the other has a backup of the majority of the repository.” Wolfe suggested.
“Will there be a portal home so that we can go visit for holidays?” One of the human girls asked.
“Of course. Not in private areas for security reasons, but we will need a main portal hall for allies to come and go.
Soon you all will be Saints, and you’ll be able to open portals on your own, as long as the diagrams are in place, so it won’t be any trouble. We might even be able to hire an artificer who can make us short range portal devices.
That will reduce the need for carriages when you get to the other side, and it will make visiting home without causing a fuss much easier.” Wolfe agreed.
“Causing a fuss?” Monika, the Dwarven Master Smith of the Fae Pentacle, asked.
“Humans revere local Saints the way Dwarves revere Rank Seven Master Smiths.”
The Dwarf nodded. She was a Third Rank Master Smith, but she had advanced quickly afterwards, and hadn’t had a chance to create her Rank Four Masterpiece before coming here.
Now the Pentacle was pulling her upward, and she was Rank Six, and she would need to create three of them, in successively improving qualities, to prove that she deserved a Master Rank that matched her power level.
The whole group, all twenty-six of them, made their way to the surface, so Wolfe could take them to the airport the fast way, instead of taking the underground highway, which was a fifteen-minute bus trip.
The crew at the airport was startled to see so many of them incoming at the same time without prior notification, but they had a pilot on the surface to greet the group before Wolfe even had them settled and the platform dismissed.
“Ah, good timing. We need a helicopter to go scouting locations for a castle.” Wolfe explained.
“Why not right here?” The pilot asked.
“This is the Lumix Family house. They are kind enough not to complain about our airport on the front lawn, but I’m not going to dig into their mountain and start building an entire castle above their heads.” Wolfe laughed.
“This way, please.” The pilot agreed with a gesture towards one of the twin-bladed cargo helicopters.
“Head west toward the Myrrh Coven borders. That section should be uninhabited, according to the maps that I have, and we might be able to only go one or two mountains over to find a spot.” Wolfe suggested.
“Why not northeast, into the mountains, so the castle isn’t right on the border? It would make you a bit more isolated, but it would also prevent any overflowing power from bothering the neighbours.” The pilot asked as she completed her checklist.
“Alright, If you have a location in mind, bring us there first. Anything over ten or fifteen kilometres should be enough.”
She brought them into the air, and followed the river valley to the northeast for ten minutes. Then she slowed their forward motion and began to gain altitude over a massive glacial lake.
“I was thinking here. It’s a beautiful spot, and we love to fly over it. There isn’t anything around for landmarks other than the lake itself, but I think that is what you’re looking for.” She offered.
Wolfe looked at the Pentacles. “Ladies, what do you think? I see two mountains overlooking the lake, and both have a solid core with no sign of existing caves or construction.”
That caused great debate among the Pentacles. There were arguments for both sides of the lake, largely based on symbolism that Wolfe had never known existed. This was why he brought helpers.
“If we put it in the west, the sun will rise over the waters, from water to trees to earth, the trifecta of nature.” Khalifa was explaining.
“But if we put it in the east, the sun will rise over the castle for visitors in the valley, and we will have a much better sunset view over the lake, with the blood-red waters of twilight.” Drazzit countered.
Lucy, a ginger haired bookworm from the human contingent nodded in agreement.
“In my homeland, it is considered a symbol of power to be the first thing that the sun rises upon. The Royal Palace is placed on the far edge of the continent, atop an artificial mountain, and the world’s time zones reset just past it, so the Royal Palace is the first thing to see sunlight every morning.” She explained.
The Witches began to laugh, while Cassie patted her on the back.
“We’re not quite that vain. I won’t lie and say that I never considered it, but we’re in the middle of the continent. We could call the Palace the centre of the world if we really wanted to puff ourselves up, but I think the view and the shape should be the primary consideration.
The eastern mountain is more oval, while the western has a double peak, making it long and rectangular.
What shape do we want? A long frontage leaves more room for lake view rooms, while an oval is more traditional, and makes it easier to space towers for Nola to be ravaged in.”
“I take it you approve of the valley, King Noxus?” The pilot asked.
“Very much so. I think we found the best spot on the first try. It’s got everything we could ask for, even gentle slopes on the western side, which will get morning light to grow a vineyard outdoors. I know how the Fae and the humans love their wine.”
