Chapter 1061: 1061 Ancient History

The last thing that Wolfe heard as he retired to the Library with his new book and crystal in hand was Cassie seeking assurance from the Royals that they really weren’t going to try to give Wolfe the title that Leandro had suggested.

Most of the city was out celebrating, and nearly every private room of the Library was empty, so Wolfe picked one with a comfortable chair and prepared to see what King Drider had presented him with inside this memory crystal.

Wolfe set both the book and crystal on the reading table, and placed a hand on the crystal with a touch of magic to begin the activation.

The information filled his mind, and a recording from King Drider began to play.

[I will start at your beginning, and then work backward through the history of the Magi until you understand.] The image of the Dark Elven King began.

Wolfe was even more curious now. What could there be about his own history that he didn’t know? His memory was pretty good, especially from the point where he awakened his powers as a Magi.

The video continued and showed Wolfe a familiar scene, a kindly doctor informing him that both of his parents had passed in an accident, and then handing him off to the Noxus Family Patriarch, who promised to arrange for Wolfe’s upbringing.

But when Wolfe left with his Uncle, the view in the recording didn’t leave with him. Instead, it followed the doctor through the hospital, to the morgue. There the man’s shape changed, and the body of the Immortal Saint replaced that of the elderly doctor.

The Saint leaned forward and kissed the corpse of Wolfe’s mother on the forehead and whispered a few words.

[Fear not my love, by the time you open your eyes, I will have rejoined you. Our son will be fine for a few centuries on his own.]

Then his body faded into pure energy, leaving Wolfe stunned.

His brain was in overload. The Immortal Saint, last head of the Noxus Magi Family, had not lost his ability to reincarnate after the great war. He had simply been lying low and living the life of a common worker with a newfound love.

Or perhaps she was also reincarnated?

He had additional information now, but there were so many more questions after he learned a bit of the truth about his parentage.

But the video continued on, changing scenes to a large stone home on top of a mountain, where a battered looking group of Magi and Witches had gathered.

“This is insane, you can’t just sink a continent.” One of the women was shouting.

An elderly Magi, so old he had to use a walker to support himself, shook his head.

“I can and I will. There are seven hundred million graves on that continent, and I will not allow them to be desecrated.” The old man insisted.

The Immortal Saint stepped out of the shadows.

“And what of the family properties?” He asked curiously.

“They are protected by mana gathering spells and barriers. A trip through the ocean won’t hurt them. If I do it right, the floors won’t even get wet.” The old man replied.

“Then you have my support. The humans and their lapdogs need to learn that they can’t just murder everyone who won’t bend to their will, and it is only fitting that we put the war memorial in a location where they can never reach it.”

That seemed to settle their discussion, and the Immortal Saint moved to the far side of the array carved into the stone to wait for the others to make their case.

But only seconds later, artillery began to hammer into the barriers, and everyone looked up in rage as a flight of jets flew overhead, dropping not just one, but an entire barrage of nuclear weapons on the area.

The Shockwaves destroyed everything outside the barrier, while the mushroom cloud extended to the very edge of the atmosphere, and perhaps beyond.

An ageless looking Witch, glowing with black Curse Energy on a level that Wolfe had never seen before, came out of the house and stomped up to the gathering.

“This cannot go on. They will destroy all life on the planet if we don’t stop this nonsense now. Take the vote. We will sink the Noxus Family’s war memorial, but we must end the war today.

Reshape the world, destroy their armies, and deprive the species of greed of the natural resources that allow them to murder with impunity.” She declared.

A chorus of agreement went up from all around her, while the old Magi nodded in satisfaction.

But the Immortal Saint just sighed.

The spell on the ground was altered by the elderly Magi, and then again by everyone present, before the Immortal Saint put one last finishing touch on it.

Wolfe looked at the change to the spell and laughed.

The beastkin.

The Immortal Saint had added an incredibly detailed genetic modification type bioelectrical magic array that would make those around the mountain immune to the effects of the nuclear winter to come. But in exchange, it would merge them with the wildlife that their people had murdered, so they could never forget what they had done.

He had even made a note in the array.

Of course, they had forgotten. The residents of the Frozen Wastes had no idea that they were almost exclusively descended from the invading armies, who had killed every bit of the population that they could find before dropping dozens of nuclear weapons on the region.

But that part didn’t really matter anymore. It had been centuries, and they had gotten the message even without reading it. The beastkin of the Frozen Wastes didn’t want to go to war with anyone, they just wanted to be happy and well-fed.

The same could not be said of the humans further from the spell.

But in the vision from the crystal, the mana surged, and the world was reshaped, leaving only the single mountain valley where they had cast the spell from untouched.

They were all exhausted, and Wolfe watched as the mana in the area flickered, and three quarters of the Saints simply fell dead, having put every bit of their life force into the spells and curses that they had placed on the world.

Then, the next wave of nuclear bombers arrived.
