Chapter 1058: 1058 Competing Royals
Mary took one step, then froze as everyone felt another portal opening.
This one was opening at the door to the room, using the door arch as a form to give it shape.
Wolfe could feel that it led to the Faerie Realm, so he extended a bit of magic through it, preventing it from depositing its occupants in the time looped trials.
“They shouldn’t be here for another hour.” Wolfe heard a Dryad mutter from behind the bar.
That would explain why the portal opened from their side and not the Forest Grove side.
As soon as Wolfe stabilized it, two Elves stepped through, a young-looking Ninth Rank blonde woman, and an equally powerful dark skinned, white haired man, whose hair had black shot through it in a way that made Wolfe think of humans going grey, but in reverse.
The woman looked at the Dark Elven man and frowned. “What are you doing here, old man?”
“You didn’t think that I would be the last to arrive, did you? That would just be tacky. Now, how do I determine the order to greet our hosts? Where is the first Saint Noxus? We can start from there.” The man replied.
Leandro laughed and whispered to Wolfe.
“It’s customary to greet everyone by the order in which they attained Sainthood, starting with the hosts, and then the guests. But all your new Saints advanced the same day.”
Wolfe stood to greet the two guests.
“I am the First Saint Noxus. Wolfe Noxus. Welcome to Forest Grove.”
The Dark Elf nodded at the woman who had arrived with him.
“Age before beauty.”
She glared at him for a moment, then smiled at Wolfe.
“I am Princess Thalami, grandmother of your new Pentacle member, Khalifa. Also known as the Devouring Princess.” She began.
“She specializes in corruption magic that disintegrates her target, possibly the most unique take on Nature Magic that I’ve ever seen.” The Magic King, oldest of the Demon Kings, added.
The Dark Elf nodded politely. “And I am Drider, Eternal King of the Underdark. Though compared to some, I am positively youthful.”
The Magic King burst into laughter. “There are not many, but there are still a few who might call you youthful.”
Drider smirked and gave the blue feathered King a polite bow, but didn’t break protocol by formally greeting him.
“The Eternal King is among the few who know when my birthday is.” The Magic King announced, which made Princess Thalami snort in amusement.
“And you dare to call me old, you shameless Elf. He was thousands of years old when I was born.” She declared.
Wolfe smiled, and Drider winked at him. “You get used to it. You see, She is Thalami the Third, named after her mother and grandmother, who was very sweet as a young lady.”
“I don’t suppose the two might happen to look alike?” Wolfe asked, beginning to understand the basis of their enmity, which wasn’t due to the conflict between light and dark Fae.
“Identical to how she looked at that age, but she still insists that she didn’t reincarnate herself as her own granddaughter.”
Then Drider turned to the Witches. “Now, I believe you are the lovely Lady Cassandra, Second Saint Noxus. Congratulations on raising the firstborn Son of the Magi King. Your eyes are truly striking.
And you Lady Ella, Third Saint Noxus, mother of the light and dark twins. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Cassie bowed politely, while Ella looked confused. She was quite certain that she was having a Son, the same as Cassie, and it was anyone’s guess who would give birth first.
Drider seemed to notice that the Witches didn’t understand. “Ah, my fault. You see, I was born blessed with the gift of Time, and I often forget the chronological order of things. Of course, you have no way of knowing that you will give birth to legendary twins in the future.”
Princess Thalami smiled at them. “He never gets any less creepy, but he’s never wrong. If he says that Lady Cassandra’s Son is born first, it will be. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintances.”
Drazzit came to stand next to Wolfe, smiling at the interaction between the two.
“He’s quite the character, but the King of the Underdark is a highly respected Royal among our people. Nobody actually knows when he passed down his throne, but the claim to the throne is a claim to direct descent from his blood.
As I understand it, he was already retired before the King of Magic was born, and attended the birth, by invitation of the Royal Family. That’s why he knows when the Ancient King’s birthday is, while everyone else has forgotten.” She whispered.
“What did we do to get such an illustrious figure for the day’s events?” Wolfe whispered back.
Drazzit shrugged. “Well, I am a Princess, and he gets bored easily. Even if I wanted to pretend I don’t know him, protocol dictates that I invite my family, and his is the Ancestor of my Family.”
Wolfe considered that. “Perhaps he knows more about the Magi Families. I still have many questions.”
Drazzit nodded. “He knows many things, and shares very few. I’m surprised that he even mentioned your children. It’s considered a high blessing among our people because speaking his visions grants a King Rank protection to the outcome. Not many forces in this world could prevent Lady Cassie from having your firstborn now.”
While the two Royal Fae made their way around the room, a number of additional Fae came through the portal holding gifts to pass out to the new Saints before disappearing back into the portal without a word.
Drazzit and Khalifa both sighed as they saw the gifts come out.
“Here we go again. We should have specified particular gifts before sending the announcements.” Khalifa muttered.
Wolfe gave her a curious look, and the Elf rolled her eyes.
“This is a Light and Dark Fae thing. They hate being shown up by one another, so they turn gift giving into a competition, and they will finish by both giving you, as the host, something ridiculously extravagant.” She whispered, too low for the others to hear.
