Chapter 1051: 1051 Arrangements

It was already later in the evening in the Fallen Empire’s Capital. With the time difference, Wolfe could put in his appearance here, and then return home and still attend the evening events in Forest Grove.

The High Nobles of the Fallen Empire all looked excited to get the party started and sample the present that Wolfe had brought for the King. But there were formalities to be done first.

They needed to file paperwork through all their worlds, so all the leaders of the army knew that the battles were over and any planned attacks on the world would now cease, to be replaced with diplomatic and law enforcement measures, with the Fallen Empire in charge.

So, there wouldn’t be a huge party today, from what Wolfe could tell among the mutterings of the Nobles who were really looking forward to it.

“Saint Noxus, if you could spare a moment before you depart to take care of matters in Forest Grove, I will be in my office in ten minutes. Everyone else, the conquering ceremonies will begin at noon tomorrow.”

King Petros paused as two of his Royal Guards led Wolfe out of the throne room.

Wolfe waited until the doors shut beside them, and the sounds of the meeting were silenced, before speaking.

“So, how have the new Witches been working out? No issues with integration? I know it had to be a difficult adjustment for a lot of your physicians to have them here.” He asked.

The guard on Wolfe’s left chuckled. “I don’t think that the physicians were as upset as the Nobles, who had been skimming and reselling their potions for a profit.

You see, the Witch Potions stop working if you water them down, and the Nobles didn’t realize that until they had already done it to dozens of Rank Three healing potions.

They lost a fortune that day, and two of them had to be rescued from lynchings by the City Guards.

It was quite the mess, and now everyone knows that their potions were diluted all along.”

Wolfe smiled at him. “In that case, I will tell you a secret. If you get a full potion from the witches, it can be split evenly into ten vials, and they will work fine, with one tenth the total effect each. So, if a full potion is cheaper than ten vials, you can still split them yourself into a sterile vial set.”

The guard reached into his storage bag and took out a small green vial. “Which is this? These are the ones they sell most of the time.”

“That’s a vial. A potion holds about as much as a glass of wine.” Wolfe explained.

The Guard chuckled. “These ones are expensive enough. What they were doing is trying to dilute these down to full potion sized, the way that people are used to seeing them. You see, one of these is more effective, but less expensive than a full Rank One potion from the Alchemists and Physicians.”

Wolfe frowned at him. “Why not ask them to make a large batch of Rank One potions?”

“They made an agreement with the local Witches, and the Physicians, that the Royal Physician Witches wouldn’t sell Rank One Potions. But the local Witches told the Nobles to pound sand when they tried to monopolize their services.

So, they used their power in the palace to raid the supplies at a discount, and it backfired on them.” The Guard laughed.

Wolfe smirked at him. “You will find that the Witches can be remarkably hard to deal with if you try to pressure them. However, if you’ve got a good reason for your request, they can be quite reasonable.”

The other guard laughed. “I know all about that. I broke my arm showing off at training, and the new Royal Physician told me I had to wait an hour, and I quote ’to let the stupidity drain’ before she would give me the potion.”

Both guards laughed at the memory, and Wolfe smiled in amusement as he shook his head. “I thought that they might be nicer to you all, since you’re new. But Soldiers are soldiers, and they’ve had a century or more of their antics.”

The guard opened the door to the waiting room and escorted Wolfe in, then took their positions by the door.

“You know, the whole defending the door against intruders thing was always odd to me. My bodyguards do it as well, but I’m perfectly capable of telling people to go away on my own.” Wolfe noted.

The guard smiled under the cover of his helmet. “It’s not that you can’t, it’s that you shouldn’t have to. That’s our job.”

Before Wolfe could reply again, the door swung open and an annoyed looking King Petros marched in, then flopped on a couch.

“Did you really have to cause so many headaches for me?” He asked as the guards shut the door and reactivated the soundproofing charms.

“This time it was unavoidable. We needed mages when we had a thousand new magic users with no training and no idea how to control their powers. It’s more of a safety measure, but the mages that we took were the ones who wanted independence, and we can offer them that, in a way.

They will be reassigned all over the Frozen Wastes to teach beastkin to use magic.”

Wolfe paused, and King Petros smiled. “So, you’re saying that there will be a lot more trained mages without the expectations of Nobility, only of good pay and a decent standard of life? I can see how you would see the long-term benefit to that.”

Wolfe nodded. “But they can also use a wide variety of Elemental Magic. While they don’t have the talent for complex arrays that a Magi does, they will be able to create many of the same amenities that I have created for people here.

It might not be the most complex and powerful of magic, but hiring just one of them will allow a Noble to have enchanted beds and chairs, climate control in the house, higher quality magical stoves than the average, and a host of other benefits.

Not to mention that many of them will come with simple witch charms, like Garden Charms for the Manor House. They will be incredibly valuable employees, if your people are willing to treat them right.”
