Chapter 1046: 1046 Do You Need More?

The news that they might not get titled as Barons in the future just for having Magic would be a massive upheaval to their society. Barons were hardly considered Nobles now, but the title came with more rights in the Fallen Empire, including business rights and the removal of property ownership restrictions.

They had known that things were going to change, as the humans in this world could teach most of their population to use magic, and they couldn’t have that many new Nobles under the old system. But they hadn’t expected it to come so suddenly.

“It looks like we are a bit out of the loop. But our orders haven’t changed, and we are instructed to bring this planet into compliance.” The head of the attacking group informed Wolfe.

“In that case, I am actually helping you, right? If I remove all the noncompliant people from this world, it becomes compliant much more easily.” Wolfe suggested.

“You know, you have a point. Would you like me to open you portals to a few more locations, and you can just take them all away with you? It would save my men all sorts of headaches.” The Commander suggested, hopefully.

“Are there really that many clusters of resistance in this world?” Wolfe asked.

The Commander shrugged. “Only six that I know of. The world is almost in compliance, but with the power of the towers, the last bits of resistance have been somewhat troublesome to dig out before the King sends us more powerful reinforcements.”

Wolfe examined the team and found that they didn’t have anyone over Rank Four, which was odd when they were trying to take over a world of mages. But they had mostly gone for the transition peacefully, and it was only a few groups of mages who were holding out against change, not a planetary invasion war or resistance battle on the sort of scale that Wolfe had waged in the Frozen Wastes.

Wolfe turned to the men who were still guarding the entrance to the tower. “How likely is it that those in the other five towers would like to join us in Forest Grove? I don’t have that many spare towers, but if you share, there is still plenty of room in the city, and our people can easily expand it for larger populations.

Or are the towers just fashionable? If you don’t need tower shaped homes, we’ve got lots of those open.”

The man closest to Wolfe just stared at him for a second before replying.

“Why do you think that the towers are essential?” He finally asked.

“The first group was very adamant that they get a new tower, so I thought that the shape might have some quasi religious significance, or be part of your mental training methods. I know it’s not essential to the magic, even if array circles look better in round rooms.” Wolfe replied.

The mage laughed. “I can contact them and ask. We might be able to arrange something if they’re not under attack.”

Wolfe shrugged. “I can just open the portal array upstairs for you, and you can bring them all here. Then nobody else needs to know who came from where, and who was still resisting the change.

It’s not a big deal, I will just keep the mana crystals charged, and you can open all the portals you like.”

The mage gave him a suspicious look. “You still feel like you’re at Rank Eight, and while that’s powerful, there isn’t enough mana in the entire region to open consecutive portals.”

Wolfe winked at him. “No worries. I have enough stored mana to reconfigure the geography of the continent. I can open a few portals.”

The man looked dubious, but when Wolfe sent a stream of mana to charge their portal array, everyone turned first to the top of the tower and then back to Wolfe.

“Goddess, did you really do that? What are you?” One old woman asked.

“An Aspiring Magi King. Give me a little longer and I will make that final advancement. But when I say I can open portals at will, I mean it. Now, feel free to go talk to your friends and bring them here for the migration to Forest Grove. We will get you all settled, or gainfully employed by our allies, who also need teachers for their students.

Cute fluffy animals ears as far as you can see, willing eager students, and we’ve even got witches, so we can heal basically any ailment that they might suffer from. Even the worst of Cancers and inherited curses can be fixed in minutes.”

The old woman smirked at Wolfe. “You know, if you’d started with that sales pitch, you wouldn’t have had to bring one of our own back to vouch for you.”

Wolfe chuckled. “It was her idea to come see you, actually. I was originally going to just go talk to King Petros and see if he had any mages to spare. But this is much more effective.

Your group needs a new place to be, and I have a whole world full of people who need instruction in the magical arts.

In fact, I can even set up some remote locations for those who want them, so they can set up branch campuses to teach more students from my home continent, instead of having everyone travel to one city.

Or are you all big-city people?”

The mage pointed behind Wolfe. “Do you see a city?”

Wolfe shrugged. “I have no idea where we are. I didn’t bother to check, I just let the Professor open the portal and walked through.”

“And then got attacked. Do you always prepare for bombardment when you go somewhere?”

“I use a fivefold array of Rank Eight armour spells to create my daily outfits. It’s easier than having new clothes made all the time.” Wolfe shrugged.

The attack leader behind them laughed. “No wonder you said that nothing here could kill you. Even if we put our efforts together, we couldn’t tear your robe.”
