Chapter 1040: 1040 Noxus Saints
Wolfe had fully emptied one of his eight Mana Cores into the city by the time that the advancement was reaching its peak, and the mist was so thick that those outdoors could hardly see across the road.
Those indoors could see the haze in their rooms, and the larger areas, like the pool and training room, had their walls shrouded in mist when viewed from the centre of the room.
But it was beginning to fade, sucked into the fifteen new Saints, as the power of the ten new members next to Wolfe surged in an incredible way.
Khalifa and Drazzit had already been the most powerful of the new members, and their power levels were headed for Rank Six, but it was the change in the humans that was the most shocking.
They didn’t feel like humans at all anymore. Their aura was nearly an exact, yet more feminine, match for Wolfe’s and their bodies thrummed with power that they had little to no training on how to handle.
They hadn’t awakened their powers before, but they all had now, and the question was just what sort of powers had this process awakened in them.
It felt more like they were Magi than humans, and Wolfe began to wonder if Magi had been humans all along, just altered by generations of exposure to mana. A curse could transform a human or witch into a Demon, of sorts, so there was no logical reason that massive amounts of magic couldn’t make them Magi as well.
But that left the question of what was happening with the Fae and Demons. The power of the ones in the Pentacles felt a bit odd, likely from the refined mana that Wolfe was feeding them. It was three different types rolled into one, so that Witches, Demons and Fae could all absorb it with peak efficiency, but the Fae and Demons bodies didn’t seem to be discriminating, and they were absorbing a bit of everything.
Hopefully, it wouldn’t cause any lasting damage to them, as it didn’t seem to be hindering their progress. Wolfe continued formatting the output of his Mana cores the same way as he emptied the second core to keep the fog density up, as the breakthroughs all over town were rapidly depleting the available mana in the mist.
While he did that, the Witches were drawing as much as they could through him, letting it flow through themselves and to the other witches in the Pentacles, as they already knew that was the most effective way to boost their advancements.
The Demons and Fae didn’t know the trick, and Wolfe wasn’t certain that they could do it even if they knew it. But the Pentacles still fed them extra power in an attempt to keep them all balanced.
Then he felt the portals opening all over the city as the Guardians and Continental Representatives rushed over to see what was happening in Forest Grove, and got themselves embroiled in the chaos of the city.
“Wolfe, what is going on?” Saint Josephine, one of the Fae representatives, yelled out from just behind Wolfe’s shoulder.
“All three Pentacles broke through to the Saint Rank at once, then I added the other two so they didn’t miss out.” Wolfe called back, not as loud, as he could tell she was only a few metres away, just behind the open door.
The elderly Fae woman burst into the room, dripping with mana from the fog, and gave him a scathing look.
“Did you stop to consider what side effects that was going to have?” She demanded.
“It’s not like I got a say in the timing.” Wolfe replied with a shrug.
“You could have shipped them all over the world to spread out the impact.” She replied.
“Is this going to stunt them? It feels like they’re still growing fine.” Wolfe asked.
“No, but it’s going to cause permanent changes in the people of the city. Massive mana exposure can cause mutation in the mana systems. Some might awaken new elements, their offspring might be new types of Fae and Demons, and from what I can tell, I think you might have awakened a number of latent Magi.”
“Oh, good. I thought it was actually turning random people into Magi because of the excess magic.” Wolfe sighed, while the candidates looked at him in horror.
Josephine shook her head. “No, it might awaken the potential, but this jumble of breakthrough energy won’t change their species. The issue is that we don’t know the heritage of most of these people, especially the local beastkin. They were already mutated by a curse, so some of them might have witch or Magi blood to start with.
Now, who knows what sort of magic users you’re going to have all over town, and we’re going to have to test every single resident so we can teach them how to continue their progress.”
Wolfe laughed at the sour look on the woman’s face as the mana flow changed again, taking on the slightly more refined note of power that had been passed through a Saint’s aura.
The breakthroughs were beginning to stabilize, and the Pentacle Members were backfeeding the excess mana that they had consumed through the Pentacle bond, pulling these ten even further through the ranks, while also feeding everyone with a Servant Bond to Wolfe, in addition to the latent mana in the fog.
That was still being pulled into their bodies, and the plants all through the Fae Forest were growing at an incredible rate, which was going to cause some issues later with their all natural building style.
“Mister Wolfe, what is happening?” Annette asked as she landed on the table in front of Wolfe, having struggled to even fly in the mana fog.
He was about to explain again, when he realized she meant to her in particular. The Faerie looked almost translucent, and Wolfe had no idea what was going on.
“Josephine, I need answers.” Wolfe requested, doing his best to keep it from sounding like a Demand.
“Miss Annette, you will be fine in a moment. Faeries are part mana elemental to begin with, and your body is just working to balance that as you advance. The Pentacle bond rushed the process, and you’re in a state of flux. Focus on radiating power, light and Pixie dust, and you should stabilize.
That’s the usual way for Faeries.”
