Immortal of the Ages

Chapter 665: Taking Over the Thunder Department!

Moon Fairy could not help but lift his gaze to behold the Great Mother. There she stood, her hair like a waterfall cascading six feet down, skin pale as snow, her visage strikingly beautiful yet marred by a hollow, tentative gaze.

She was garbed in a floral dress that fluttered in the breeze, her fingers unusually long. Though tall, she was not imposing but delicately formed, just right...

To Moon Fairy, she appeared as a gentle older sister burdened with worries, her presence seemingly distant. Not even a hint of the stench of decay could be detected.

"To conceal such a stench as a corpse demon, that's no small feat," Moon Fairy mused silently.

So far, he had encountered three corpse demons.

The first was Forbidden Fate, the most primitive, utterly lacking disguise and never having morphed into human form, the lowest potential out of all of them.

Then, there was Pale Revenant, once human, transformed by resentment into something monstrous.

But in terms of hierarchy, Pale Revenant paled in comparison to this Great Mother, a supreme corpse demon risen to her zenith by devouring relentlessly.

Her stench wasn’t absent; it had grown so potent that it permeated the entire Celestial Demon Abyss.

"Corpse demons are theoretically limitless. But what restrains them is the stench of the dead. The stenches of different corpses mixed, corroding the being itself.

"So, there's a limit to their consumption. The more they consume, the more bloated they become, until a critical point of decay is reached, beyond which further consumption leads to self-destruction."

Why was Pale Revenant so grateful to Yun Xiao? It was because the Prison Warden Sigil had purified her, integrating her monstrous form and elevating her potential over and again.

The Great Mother had reached her limit and had to be continuously purified in the Divine Desolation Sea.

But as long as Pale Revenant stayed with Yun Xiao, she would face no such boundary.

Yet, despite this… Moon Fairy could sense the terrifying power of the Great Mother at this moment. Should she descend upon the Celestial Court, a disaster was certain.

"Bai Xue…" This towering eight-foot Great Mother, with her vacant, bewildered gaze, fixed her eyes on the Lunar Mistress.

"Where is Lu Fan?" she asked. Her voice was hollow, raspy, devoid of any charm.

"He hasn't arrived," the Lunar Mistress hastily replied. "But he told me to pass on a message that he needed three more days. Once he deals with the Great Dao Celestial Array, our actions will become much easier.'"

"Three days..." Expressionless, the Great Mother decreed, "That's the limit. If he hasn't resolved it by then, we wait no longer."

"Yes." The Lunar Mistress nodded.

"If he's no help, he'll die," the Great Mother declared.

"I will relay the message!" the Lunar Mistress said, her face paling slightly.

"Leave," the Great Mother commanded.

"Great Mother." The Lunar Mistress forced a smile. "The Chaos Sovereign felt remorseful about this unexpected hiccup and told me to prepare a small gift. Please accept it with our compliments."

With that, the blue and green foxes hurriedly pushed Moon Fairy forward.

It was only then that the Great Mother's vacant gaze fell upon Moon Fairy.

"He is..." As the Lunar Mistress started to introduce him, the Great Mother cut her off, saying, "A man."

"Yes!" The Lunar Mistress nodded.

"He stays," the Great Mother commanded.

The Lunar Mistress hadn't expected the process to be so straightforward and abrupt. She laughed nervously and said, "Then I will take my leave."

The Great Mother said nothing, and with her own nerves taut, she promptly directed her palanquin away, never looking back once.

In the floating silence, there remained only Moon Fairy, neatly presented, and the towering eight-foot-tall giantess.

The wind lifted her jet-black hair, which brushed against Moon Fairy.

Her hollow gaze swept over him.

In a blink, she was in front of him, mere inches away, her face hovering above his forehead, her red lips aligned with the top of his head.

"Uh..." Even though he was a dispensable body double, Moon Fairy felt a tinge of nervousness under the oppressive aura.

The Great Mother was too eerie; she brought not allure but horror.

"Your scent..." the Great Mother sniffed at his neck, her mouth parting to reveal sharp teeth.

"It's off," she added.

Suddenly, two more eyes appeared on Moon Fairy's face!

These four eyes instantly ruined any semblance of beauty he had been packaged with.

"I am not a demon; I am a beast from the Immortal Asylum," Moon Fairy calmly stated, looking directly at her. "I despise the Immortals, and I know a way to help you seize the Immortal Asylum."

"Oh..." The Great Mother extended her four-inch-long, jade-like fingers, grabbing Moon Fairy's arms and lifting him as one would a child, examining him closely.

Suddenly, her nails elongated by an inch, piercing into the flesh of Moon Fairy.

Then, like a torrent, ashen blood poured from her into Moon Fairy, flooding through his veins.

"What is this?" Moon Fairy frowned, feeling a rot within him.

"Myriad Corpse Blood," the Great Mother replied, releasing her grip and offering him a stiff smile. It was not a pleasant smile, more like a forced twitch at the corners of her mouth.

"What's it for?" Moon Fairy asked.

"To ensure your obedience," she replied.

"Alright," he nodded.

"Such a pretty boy," the Great Mother said, suddenly pulling him into her embrace, then touching his forehead, asking, "Did it hurt?"

Her attempt at tenderness felt forced, like a mother trying too hard, yet entirely rigid.

From her vacant stare, Moon Fairy felt only a chilling dread.

"Want milk? I might not have any," she asked.

Startled, Moon Fairy quickly responded, "Desolation! I want desolation!"

The Great Mother paused. She patted Moon Fairy's head, then let go, pulling him towards the direction of the Divine Desolation Sea, saying, "Eat up."

"Is that it?" Moon Fairy was perplexed.

He had heard that the Great Mother was perverse, and he himself could not stomach the idea of being the plaything of a corpse demon. So, he had braced for a battle to defend his virtue!

But instead, she was treating him like a son?

"However, this Myriad Corpse Blood…"

The ashen blood, now filling half his veins, spelled trouble.

In the Great Dao Celestial Realm, at the Thunder Department, the Azure Rain Sword Vessel landed.

Yun Xiao, Yue Yin, and Gu Suwan disembarked.

As Gu Suwan stepped off, her legs gave way, almost causing her to fall.

"Foster mother, what's wrong?" Yun Xiao asked, turning back.

"Nothing," she quickly shook her head, squeezing out a faint smile. She was simply a bit dazed.

"It's nothing serious, don't worry too much," Yun Xiao said with a smile that was as radiant as the sun, giving off an utterly harmless aura.

"Yes, I understand," Gu Suwan replied, forcing a smile.

Yue Yin seemed more natural about it. She turned to Yun Xiao and said, "I stole the Sword Hearts, and it is bound to be discovered eventually."

"We'll deal with that when it comes out," Yun Xiao responded evenly.

His composure was reassuring to Yue Yin. So, she let it be, her faith in Yun Xiao cemented after surviving a battle in the uncharted regions.

"What's your next plan?" Yue Yin asked.

"I'll hold down the Thunder Department and focus on my cultivation," Yun Xiao replied.

That was his mantra; the Thunder Department was the safest place!

At that moment, Pale Revenant approached the group. Dressed up by Cao Shuo, she looked rather like an angelic maid.

"Just now, a group from the Great Dao Celestial Army came by. They're at the Myriad Divine Thunder Bureau right now, and nobody has greeted them," Pale Revenant reported.

"The Great Dao Celestial Army?" Yun Xiao raised an eyebrow.

"The Chaos Sovereign's men," Gu Suwan said.

Now that the Thunder Department was without the Nine Thunders Sovereign, it had become Yun Xiao's personal domain.

"First he sends demons after me, now his own people too?"

It seemed as though the Thunder Department was regarded as utterly defenseless.

"Let's meet them," Yun Xiao told Gu Suwan and Yue Yin.

After speaking, they headed towards the Myriad Divine Thunder Bureau together.

"What kind of force are they?" On the way, Yun Xiao asked Pale Revenant.

"I heard there are two Rank 2 Supreme Generals, ten Rank 3 Celestial Generals, 100 Great Horned Immortals, and 1,000 officials... They claim that the Thunder Department has suffered heavy losses and that demons have infiltrated, putting the department in jeopardy. In the name of camaraderie, they say they've come to protect the Arbiters and Immortal Champion," Pale Revenant dutifully reported.

Yun Xiao stopped in his tracks and scoffed, "A large force like that isn't here to protect me; they're here to take over the Thunder Department!"
