“After I removed the Buddha Seed for your younger brother,” Master Chen said, “he uttered ‘This cursed thing has finally left’ and then fainted. Logically speaking, the Buddha Seed had been planted for over ten days, and even though the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction is boundless, limited by Yankong’s cultivation, the information a single Buddha Seed contains is finite. When I was removing the seed, I thought that at least 10 to 20 percent of the information had entered your brother’s Sea of Consciousness; yet to my surprise, after the removal, I found that the seed had depleted by no more than half.”
Master Chen lifted up the ravaged Buddha Seed and sighed, “I really don’t understand why your brother is so resistant to this Buddha Seed, which is considered an invaluable treasure in Buddha’s Country. With a cultivation at the Mortal Shedding level, he was actually able to resist the information from the Buddha Seed for so many days. It’s truly inconceivable.”
According to Tang Luo’s request, after removing the Buddha Seed, I should have asked Tang Xing if he still wants to cultivate Zen. But seeing the size of the Buddha Seed and his last words, Master Chen knew it was no longer necessary to ask. On the way back, however, he kept wondering what kind of power could have supported that young man to desperately resist the information from the Buddha Seed.
Even with his martial cultivation, there were several times on the return trip when he thought of planting the Buddha Seed into his own Sea of Consciousness. He wasn’t coveting the secret techniques of Zen; he was simply curious about this divine incantation faction from Zhongzhou’s Buddha’s Country, which had nearly been mythologized, to see what was so extraordinary about it.
Logically, the higher one’s martial cultivation, the stronger their curiosity. He brought the Buddha Seed to Tang Luo partly out of an experimental mindset, wanting to see whether Tang Luo could resist the temptation of a top-tier secret technique and stay true to his True Heart.
He had expected someone so young and talented to at least struggle for a moment, yet Tang Luo’s refusal was so straightforward and the reason for his refusal even gave one the impression that the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction was no big deal.
“Truly, the younger generation is to be feared,” Master Chen waved the Buddha Seed into the Illusionary Dream Space and said with a light laugh to Tang Luo, “With such unparalleled confidence, I have even more faith in your method of restoring the Four Imperial Spirit Seals.”
“You flatter me,” Tang Luo earnestly said to Master Chen, “The content on the scroll is merely a direction; the details will still need to be perfected by Master Chen himself. To exchange such a deduction for Master Chen’s help is really too generous. After you choose a good blessed land or cave heaven, please send a letter to me in Lanshan City, Longxi. I have some humble assets. Said Master Chen wishes to construct a Divine Array, I can have the necessary spiritual stones and materials sent over. This will spare you the trouble of worrying about these trifling matters.”
To construct a formation with a spiritual vein as the base is no easy feat. Not to mention how to build the formation, just the materials required for it could not be gathered overnight. And for Master Chen, what was most important was time.
The sooner the formation was complete, the sooner he could restore the Four Imperial Spirit Seals. A Grandmaster who hasn’t cultivated their spiritual soul naturally has a short lifespan. Moreover, a lonely Grandmaster cannot be everywhere at once. Tang Luo’s suggestion was exactly what Master Chen needed. Originally planning to refuse, he could only gratefully accept, “What you say addresses the very problem that troubles me. For that, I won’t be overly courteous!”Tang Luo keenly noticed the implication in Master Chen’s words. If he’s already worrying about materials for building the formation, it meant he had a very solid target in mind. Out of curiosity, Tang Luo asked, “It seems Master Chen already has a target?”
“Nothing escapes your keen eyes,” Master Chen admitted with a sigh. “To be honest, I do indeed have a target in mind. Do you know of Beimang? It’s a vast region with sparse population, mostly consisting of deep mountains and great marshes once inhabited by countless poisonous creatures and fierce beasts, rarely visited by humans, and also the location of many Demon Kings’ dens. Even though the Human Race has flourished for a millennium now, Beimang is said to remain just as chaotic as ever. Many famous mountains and spiritual residences change hands year after year. Hence, I would like to travel to Beimang to see if there are any unoccupied blessed lands or cave heavens available.”
Tang Luo’s expression was strange; he had never expected Chen Menglu’s target to actually be Beimang. Although everyone said Beimang was in chaos, Tang Luo, who had communicated with Ji Fu, knew very well that the chaos in Beimang was only superficial, and the struggles were just limited to sparring that stopped at the right point. The seemingly chaotic Beimang had actually been forged into an impregnable stronghold by the Han Family.
As for those famous mountains and rivers, deep woods and swamps, it’s true that they change masters every year, but interpreting “change of masters” as “rotation of defense” would be more accurate.
Whether it be the Ji Family, which dominated Beimang, or the Illusionary Master before him, both had developed quite a significant relationship with him, so he certainly did not want to see the master venture deep into Beimang only to discover a holy land always awaiting its revenge because, whether it was the exposure of the Ji Clan or Chen Menglu being gravely injured, neither would be a good thing. Hence, he voiced his advice,
“Master Chen, I heard that Beimang is wrought with chaos, the people are fierce and impulsive, ready to fight to the death over a mere disagreement, willing to draw their swords over some rice and grain. Moreover, there are countless venomous creatures and fierce beasts lurking in the deep mountains and poisonous marshes. Such a perilous place, of course, for Master Chen, would be as easy as walking on flat ground, but for the boys and girls you intend to gather afterward, it would be an extremely dangerous place where death is almost certain. Should you perhaps reconsider making Beimang the place for your teachings?”
Tang Luo thought his words might dissuade Chen Menglu from longing for Beimang, but unexpectedly, upon hearing Tang Luo’s advice, the other party burst into hearty laughter.
The bamboo forest scene shifted, and after experiencing a brief and familiar bout of dizziness, the two found themselves within the Divine Array hub of Xumi Mountain.
Chen Menglu chuckled at Tang Luo, “My young friend, you regard the ancient clan’s texts so highly in the Illusionary Dream, it must be because you have also noticed the inaccuracies in contemporary chronicles. Tell me, even if Han Wu truly made a grand vow not to settle down until all demons were eradicated, could it be that his Han line did not continue to reproduce?”
Tang Luo’s expression was bizarre. Originally, he had only wanted to persuade Chen Menglu to stay away from the contentious Beimang, but now, it seemed that the script was not going as he had planned.
Seeing Tang Luo’s expression, Chen Menglu thought he had hit the mark and continued, “Although Beimang may seem chaotic and disorderly to outsiders, it is actually well-organized. This is because several major clans in Beimang are descendants of Han Wu from ancient Zhongzhou. They changed their names and surnames and feigned…”
“Master Chen…” Tang Luo’s expression was complex as he interrupted, “Such crucial secrets, you just casually reveal them to a youngster like this, isn’t that inappropriate?”
It was not an act; his heart was truly conflicted. He had thought that the Han Family’s concealment was very secretive, yet here was a Grandmaster of Martial Saint Mountain who never left home able to disclose it so easily. He felt truly hopeless about the Han Family’s security measures.
He had believed there would be at least a hundred years to develop, but looking at the situation now, he felt that it was only a matter of time before the news reached Zhongzhou, and he had to start planning ahead for his family!
