"My past self never took an empress," the remnant spoke immediately.

"I had no one I particularly favored, nor any desire to take one."

"Then how did the Agnes bloodline continue?"

"I adopted a son. Of course, I never revealed this to the world."

After briefly recalling someone from the past, the remnant slowly continued:

"Back then, I went to the Temple of Fate seeking a child with the destiny of an emperor."

"The destiny of an emperor?"

"Yes. After the war with the demon realm and making the contract with the gods, I realized something - that I had no destiny as emperor. No, I had no destiny of any kind. Like a blank space."

That's why the past Aurelion had thought that somewhere in the world, there might exist someone else who carried the destiny of emperor that he lacked.

And his thinking proved correct.

"Whether by coincidence or not, the child I found had similar features to me, including gray hair. Who knows - if not for me, that boy might have become the first emperor of Agnes."

Zion could fully understand his past self's reasoning for adoption.

The contract with the gods and the empire's continuation both required the Agnes family to endure.

"Then that child was..."

"Yes, he became the second emperor after me."

Emperor Irmadeon Agnes the Successor.

The emperor who created Heaven's Opposition and led the empire onto the path of true prosperity.

Though nearly perfect as a human, he was also a tragic emperor forever overshadowed by his father, the Eternal Emperor.

"If you wondered why Black Star Force wasn't passed down, I hope that answers your question too. Though it couldn't have been inherited anyway."

After saying this, the remnant glanced at his body, now almost completely merged with the surrounding darkness.

"Time's up."

He addressed Zion one final time.

"This is where our meeting ends. I hope this resolved the questions you had."

With those words, the remnant vanished as perfectly as if he had never existed.

'This was more enlightening than expected.'

As Zion quietly stared at the spot where the remnant had been, the Void Dragon Giagras appeared before him again.

-Is the conversation finished?

"Yes."

Zion answered briefly while studying the dragon's eyes.

Even upon second look, he saw no trace of the madness mentioned in the chronicle.

'The future must have changed.'

As Zion pondered this-

-You seem to have more questions. However, our conversation will have to wait.

The dragon spoke.

"Do you have a time limit too?"

-No, I have no time limit. But you seem to.

Whoosh!

With those words, Giagras summoned a massive mirror.

Instead of reflecting Zion, it showed the Agnes imperial palace complex.

More precisely-

-AAAARGH!

-Protect! We must protect Bai Cheng Palace where the Emperor resides at all costs!

KYAAAH!

It showed the brutal battle between humans and monsters raging within the palace grounds.

The earth stained red with blood flowing from corpses, palaces crumbling.

-It seems the specters of the past sleeping beneath the palace have awakened.

At the Void Dragon's words, Zion's eyes slowly began to sink deeper as he watched the scene in the mirror.

In the deepest part of the abyss forming the demon realm's lowest level, there was a single throne.

Empty for hundreds of years, that throne now held a being.

A being whose features were blurry as if hidden behind a veil, except for black eyes of unfathomable depth.

Though merely sitting still, the fate of destruction flowing from this being continuously shattered the surrounding world.

"Truly... magnificent."

Wrath the Archdemon bowed respectfully beside this being as he spoke.

True to his words, his eyes overflowed with admiration and awe.

A single word.

With just one word, their King had succeeded in attacking the imperial palace - something even they as Archdemons had thought impossible - and broken the seals on the previous Great Demons. řÀΝǑВÈ𐌔

It felt like standing before a god.

'No, with power like this, he may have already reached divine status.'

Indeed, Wrath couldn't begin to gauge the King's power.

Such feats were only possible given an unimaginably vast gap between them.

As the awe in the Archdemon's eyes deepened-

-...

The King remained silent at Wrath's words, quietly watching the scene of the Agnes imperial palace complex before him.

-Why has he not appeared?

A low murmur escaped the being's lips.

-I clearly felt that power.

The being's eyes showed no interest in destroying the palace complex or even annihilating humanity.

There was only one reason the being had returned to lead this attack on the palace.

To confirm if 'he' had truly returned.

But despite the palace complex rapidly crumbling, 'he' had yet to show himself.

Had the being been mistaken?

Then-

-That's impossible.

The being's eyes began to curve as if seeing something.

Where Rising Star Palace had stood until moments ago.

Now only rubble remained, and-

"KYAHAHAHA!"

A terrifying battle was unfolding.

With that chilling laugh, thousands of Evil Hands burst through the opened space, all charging toward a single being.

These Evil Hands proved Zion's assessment of Liushina nearing her end was accurate - their power was incomparably stronger than before.

Each one rivaled the highest-grade magic.

-Ah, what are you? Why do you block my path to the King?

Iades, one of the previous Four Great Demons known as the Witch of the Abyss Swamp, waved her hand with a troubled expression.

At that moment-

Gurgle!

The surrounding earth transformed into a green-tinged swamp.

Hiss!

The Evil Hands that entered the swamp dissolved without a trace.

-Then I'll have to kill you.

Having apparently forgotten the countless lives she'd already slaughtered on her way here, the green-haired witch raised one finger and tapped the air.

Following that ripple, tens of thousands of green tongues shot from the dissolved space toward Liushina.

But Iades couldn't complete her attack.

FLASH!

"How dare a remnant of the Great War cause such chaos here."

Rubrious had suddenly appeared beside her, swinging his sword while wreathed in blinding light.

-Hmm, this feeling... are you the current emperor? How unusual. Using both the sea of stars and holy light.

After sensing Rubrious's appearance and power, Iades waved her remaining hand as she spoke.

WHOOSH!

A liquid shield formed before her, clashing with Rubrious's sword.

His blade became trapped in the liquid shield, beginning to dissolve with a hissing sound.

But at that moment-

"Light."

As he whispered those words, six stars began spinning brightly in Rubrious's eyes.

FLASH!

The intensified holy light of Luminus wrapped around his sword, shredding Iades's shield to pieces.

The blade of light continued onward, aiming for the former Great Demon's throat.

Rubrious remembered.

His previous defeat by the Six Claws.

That had been a massive shock, driving him to train relentlessly afterward.

Natural talent and endless effort.

The results of combining those two were now being revealed. CLANG!

His sword was blocked again by new green arms that tore through space.

But that was enough.

"Aren't you forgetting about me?"

The red-eyed witch stood behind Iades, smiling brightly with massive demonic energy gathered in one hand.

The energy immediately burst from Liushina's hand, splitting into countless blood lines that shattered all space they touched while closing in on Iades.

-Do I need to look?

Rumble!

The space around the Great Demon transformed into a swamp, swallowing all the incoming blood lines.

The spatial swamp continued expanding, trying to devour Liushina and Rubrious.

"Then I'll make you look."

Unlike Rubrious who retreated, Liushina charged straight toward the approaching swamp.

Then-

Hiss!

-How foolish.

Iades sneered as she watched Liushina be swallowed and instantly dissolve in the spatial swamp.

"Who? You?"

Crunch!

A chilling voice.

The completely dissolved Liushina suddenly reformed her body and thrust out one hand.

-What!

Though shocked by this impossible regeneration she couldn't comprehend, Iades thrust out her own hand, now stained green.

CRASH!

The impact from their colliding hands began shattering all remaining buildings in the area.

The two witches faced each other at the center, neither giving an inch.

As Liushina matched the former Great Demon in direct combat, her hand glowed not red but purple.

BOOM!

Another massive explosion sent both Liushina and Iades flying backward.

"Luminus, grant me power to face this demon!"

Rubrious rejoined the intense battle that continued.

It was an even fight, tilting toward neither side.

Though weaker than the current Great Demons, Iades had been one of the strongest in the First Great War.

The main reason just two people could match such a being was Liushina's newly gained power of the end.

She stood just one step away from reaching her end, allowing her to wield that power albeit imperfectly.

The proof was the purple energy gradually consuming the red energy covering her entire body.

"KYAHAHAHA! What is this! It's amazing!"

Liushina cried out in ecstasy as she felt her power increasing exponentially with the purple energy's spread.

Perhaps because she had never properly used it before?

Intoxicated by this tremendous power she felt for the first time, she continued absorbing the incomplete power of the end without any restraint.

CRASH!

As Liushina's power surged, the tide of battle began turning.

Though this should have been welcome, anxiety grew in Rubrious's eyes as he fought alongside her.

'Dangerous.'

His focus was not on Iades but on Liushina.

More precisely, on the power of the end surrounding her.

No, to Rubrious it seemed less like surrounding and more like devouring her.

Indeed, the light of reason was gradually fading from Liushina's purple-stained eyes.

And finally, Rubrious's fears proved correct.

BOOM!

His body flew at invisible speed into the rubble, struck by Liushina's sudden attack from the side.

"Hey, why do you keep targeting my stuff? It's annoying. Stay buried there. I'll kill you after I finish this."

Had her thought process changed from being consumed by the madness of the end?

The witch smiled wickedly as she turned away, her eyes gleaming with purple killing intent.

"Ugh! Get a hold of yourself! Don't let that power consume you!"

Rubrious shouted at Liushina's back, barely raising his upper body from the rubble.

At that moment-

-Oh? Internal strife?

The space before his eyes rippled as Iades emerged.

She had seized the opening created by Liushina's sudden attack.

-Then I'll gladly take advantage.

The Great Demon reached out without hesitation, aiming to finish off the incapacitated Rubrious.

'I'm going to die...!'

As death's shadow fell over Rubrious's eyes while he watched Iades's hand approach-

The opposite emotion, joy, began filling the Great Demon's eyes.

SPLAT!

Without any warning, Iades's outstretched hand exploded.

-...Huh?

As she stared blankly at her vanished hand- SPLAT!

Her head exploded next.

As the Great Demon's body collapsed-

Swish-

Pitch-black threads rose behind her, intertwining to form a shape.

A jet-black uniform contrasting with pure white skin.

And emotionless eyes whose depths couldn't be read.

The master of Agnes who had appeared before Rubrious-

"It seems it's time for another lesson in discipline."

He smiled coldly while facing the witch of the end, who had turned toward him with a madness-filled grin.
