I Became the Little Demon in Leading Role's Family

Chapter 118 - 118 118 Not a Single Bad Person Will Be Let In

Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Not a Single Bad Person Will Be Let In Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Not a Single Bad Person Will Be Let In Bai Zhi was only surprised for a second before she naturally accepted it. Well, grandpa had unlocked another skill.

Bai Zhi felt a bit downhearted because she realized that grandpa was capable of everything and she seemed good for nothing besides cooking.

It really was too heartbreaking.

“Don’t worry, leave everything to grandpa, go rest now,” Bai Dan said with a smile as he tousled Xingxing’s hair, sending her off to rest.

Indeed, grandpa was capable of everything.

When Bai Zhi woke up, Bai Dan had already started packing, and things like quilts were already being loaded onto the tricycle.

Bai Zhi thought that if she were any later, grandpa would have managed to get rid of the pigs as well.

Bai Xiang was also very excited. Finally, he could stop boarding at school.

So he came over early to lead the way and was ready to start packing.

“You guys cook, I’ll move house with Second Master first. I’ve told the buyer we’ll deliver in a few days, anyway we’re only registering tomorrow, no classes,” he said.

“Okay.”

Bai Zhi readily agreed. Since they were going to the town, she might as well start grinding the soybeans.

Bai Zhi cleaned the stone mill and then started to process the soybeans, which, after soaking overnight, were plump like little fatties.

Using a large spoon, she scooped the soybeans along with some water and started turning the mill clockwise. Soon enough, white soy milk started to flow out.

Wu Wa found it very interesting.

“Ah Zhi, Ah Zhi, let me do it. I think I can,” she said.

Wu Wa was eager to try, so Bai Zhi handed her the spoon and showed her how to do it. Wu Wa was very impressive, even stronger than Bai Zhi and effortlessly handled the task.

If Bai Zhi was a “strong girl,” then Wu Wa would be a “super strong girl.”

The two of them could form a duo called “Super Strong Girls.” Cough cough cough… getting sidetracked.

Wu Wa was a bit slow at first as she got used to the task but once she did, she started going really fast. Thankfully, the beans that usually took half an hour to grind took only about fifteen minutes…

Bai Zhi was still washing the filter bags and preparing the gypsum powder.

[The gypsum powder is the kind used for making tofu pudding, you should be able to buy it directly. There’s also another kind called rock powder here which tastes even better. However, I don’t know the scientific name for it.]

The freshly ground soy milk was poured into a large pot because there was a lot of it. Bai Zhi also put some in a small pot set aside.

The stone mill was cleaned and ready to start the fire.

The fire couldn’t be too strong, or the soy milk would burn. When the soy milk was about to boil, foam would continuously surface. At this point, you need to stir it in one direction, and when the foam stops, the fragrance of the soy milk wafts through the air. That’s when it all looks like soy milk and needs to be filtered.

She brought out a special bamboo ladder designed by Bai Dan, placed it in another large pot. She then put the filter bag over the ladder and poured in all the soy milk, tightening the bag to begin pressing it with a bamboo stick.

Bai Zhi and Wu Wa, one on each end, gently pressed down and the soy milk flowed continuously from the bag until no more could come out.

Without filtering, despite being finely ground by the stone mill, the soy milk would still have a gritty texture. The residue left in the bag was soy pulp.

The soy pulp could be used to feed pigs and chickens or to make dried fermented black beans. The size of a fist, these beans were quite a hassle to make, which Bai Zhi wasn’t familiar with, so using it to feed chickens was a good option.

She poured a good amount of soy milk into a bowl and added some sugar before giving a bowl to Wu Wa.

“Soy milk, drink up,” she said.

Wu Wa took it, took a small sip, and the sweet taste made her nod vigorously.

“Delicious, this tastes really good.”

After finishing, he gulped down a large bowl.

“Want more?”

Bai Zhi looked at Wu Wa and smiled, finding her quite cute with soy milk still lingering at the corners of her mouth.

“Yes, yes, yes.” Wu Wa nodded vigorously, her gaze turning to the pot full of soy milk. How many days might it take to finish all this?

Bai Zhi poured another bowl for Wu Wa, and then she started to make tofu pudding.

Gypsum powder was added to water and continuously stirred until not a single grain could be felt.

It was poured into a large ladle and directly added; she stirred the soy milk clockwise three times with the ladle before promptly removing it to avoid further movement. When the soy milk came to rest, you’d be surprised to find that, upon blowing on it, it would no longer move.

At this point, a lid was placed over the pot.

Once it solidified, it would become tofu pudding.

“Ah Zhi, why cover it? Are you afraid it will get cold?”

Wu Wa asked curiously while drinking. It was her first time seeing beans transformed into something so delicious—it truly seemed magical.

“It will turn into tofu pudding soon. Just wait a bit and you’ll see. I need to go to the field; can you watch the pot for me at home?”

Bai Zhi prepared to leave, intending to gather some vegetables to bring back home. School was starting soon, and she’d be living in town, so naturally, she needed to harvest the garden vegetables and figure out a way to store them. Luckily, registration wasn’t until the next day; with two days left, there was no rush.

“Okay, you go. I promise to take good care of the house. I won’t let a single bad person in.”

Wu Wa directly moved a stool and sat in the doorway, guarding it so that no one could enter. Black Panther sat beside her, extremely well-behaved.

Strangely enough, Black Panther took a liking to Wu Wa the moment he saw her, running around her feet. Black Panther was so big that even Bai Zhi couldn’t wrap her arms around him.

Bai Dan would say that they were fated to be friends.

With a basket on her back, Bai Zhi went to the field to pick green beans, cowpeas, chilis, cucumbers, loofahs, eggplants, tomatoes, and leeks.

Bai Dan was always diligent, so naturally, there was a variety of vegetables available.

Bai Zhi had planted them too, so this year Bai Yu and the others would certainly have enough to eat, but next year was up in the air.

The chilis were a deep red, hanging from their branches. Bai Zhi harvested all of them, leaving none behind. Aunt Fang, seeing this, laughed.

“Bai Zhi, are you going to make chili sauce?”

The red chilis in the field were specially kept aside for making chili and broad bean pastes. Without a pinch of broad bean paste, their cooking would be incomplete.

“Yes, Aunt Fang, are you making some too?”

Bai Zhi indeed planned to make chili and broad bean pastes. She would be relying on this batch for the year’s supply of sauce.

However, she couldn’t process them right away upon returning; she needed to dry out the water content a bit first, something not necessary for the chili sauce.

Green beans would be dried into green bean crisps, cowpeas turned into pickles—no matter the vegetable, there was a preservation method suited to it.

Bai Zhi packed all the chilis into her basket and prepared to head back home via the small path, knowing she would need to make several trips.

Passing by the foot of the mountain, she suddenly remembered Bai Xiang mentioning that he had saved Bai Ye before. Bai Ye was really lucky—or else, he might have experienced the prickling… excitement of the night.

“Bai Zhi…”

Suddenly, a voice came from the small path beside the mountain. Squinting, Bai Zhi looked over. It was that young boy named Moh Li?

Was he heading up the mountain again?

“What’s up?”

His face was dark and he didn’t speak, but he didn’t look angry at all; instead, due to his baby face, he kind of looked like he was pouting?
