When the first guy raised his gun and pointed it at them, Tang Erda raised his hand to stop them and shouted: “Duck and run!”
“It’s not necessary.” Bai Liu looked towards the end of the fog, “The space here started to connect from the moment we came in, but now it’s completely sealed. We can’t escape.”
Tang Erda followed Bai Liu’s line of sight, and his expression froze.
At the end of the mist, there was a looming sign, with a fresh bullet hole on it, which Tang Erda had just fired at with his gun. Next to the sign stood three figures, two large and one small, who were clearly their own. [1]
“It seems that we have to decrypt the code before we can get out of here.” Bai Liu turned to look at the zombie brides who were getting closer, “Tang Erda, please hold on for a while.”
Tang Erda raised his hand and swiped the guns of the two zombie brides. He held the gun of the third zombie bride, turned it around, pointed it at the opponent’s mouth, and fired twice. After having blood spattered on his face, he turned around and asked Bai Liu behind him: “There’s a puzzle here?”
Bai Liu pointed to the street sign next to him: “That’s it.”
“What kind of puzzle can this be?” Tang Erda asked doubtfully as he broke one of the Guys’ neck and wiped off the blood splashed on his face.
Bai Liu’s eyes stopped on the sign. There were eight road signs on it, pointing to the recruit station, the tavern, the training camp, the town exit, the registration office, the train station, the direction of the battlefield and the cemetery.
Liu Jiayi quickly scanned the sign above: “The prompt is the address, but no matter where you go, you will circle back to the same place. There should be some sort of special route to go out.”“But there are too many possible routes that can be combined with eight signposts.” Liu Jiayi frowned and looked at Bai Liu, “Do you have any clues that can serve as reminders?”
Bai Liu glanced at Guy, who was struggling with Tang Erda: “Haven’t the clues already been given to us?”
Liu Jiayi suddenly turned her head to look at the Guys: “These guys are zombies, buried corpses, they came from the cemetery!”
“Yes, this group of Guys came from the cemetery and passed through this barrier.” Bai Liu’s eyes returned to the road sign, “Since this group of Guys who are already zombies can pass through this barrier, it means that this route is very familiar to him, and he can subconsciously follow it even after dying and becoming a zombie.”
Liu Jiayi had been staying at the Red Cross Society and was not familiar with the NPC Guy. After hearing Bai Liu’s analysis, she simply said: “I don’t understand this. I’ll help Tang Erda fight so please hurry up and figure it out.”
After saying that, Liu Jiayi rushed to Tang Erda with two bottles of antidote, and kicked away a gun that came from behind him.
The gun went off, and Bai Liu sidestepped to avoid it, but his eyes were fixed on the sign.
If the seven days of the war were a cycle, these dead Guys should have remembered the path they had walked here during their lifetimes. Guy [2] defected on the second day, so it should be the road that Guy traveled on the first day. ⱤÄNȏ₿Ёꞩ
And Guy was with him all the way that day.
They met Guy when— [3] Bai Liu moved his eyes and looked at the first road sign: “The first one is in the direction of the battlefield.”
Tang Erda had already confiscated all the monsters’ guns. He lifted Liu Jiayi on his shoulders with both hands and ran two steps towards the battlefield. He turned around and said hoarsely: “Then what? Bai Liu, there are more and more zombies. Hurry up!”
Bai Liu reported the next address smoothly: “The second place is the train station, the third place is the registration office, the fourth place is the recruit station, the fifth place is the tavern, and the sixth place is the training camp.”
Tang Erda asked urgently: “What about the seventh and eighth!”
Bai Liu glanced back and forth twice at the [Town Exit] and the [Cemetery]. He had never been to these two places with Guy, so he didn’t know the order.
But these are corpses, and the final destination of the corpses should be the cemetery.
Bai Liu was only quiet for a second, and then continued: “The seventh one is the exit of the town, and the eighth one is the cemetery.”
Tang Erda stepped in the direction of the cemetery, then looked at the motionless mist behind him, and looked at Bai Liu in confusion: “Why isn’t there a reaction? Did I not go the right wayjust now?”
He did not doubt that Bai Liu’s judgment was wrong.
Liu Jiayi pulled away from Tang Erda’s hands that had grabbed her. The man ran so fast that she was shaken and so dizzy that she didn’t even have time to dissuade him. At this moment, she was put down and she said breathlessly: “You are going the wrong way. These Guys are from the cemetery, we should walk backwards from the direction of the cemetery.”
Tang Erda: “…”
Tang Erda glanced at Bai Liu in confusion and disbelief: “But Bai Liu was thinking…”
Bai Liu smiled innocently at him: “I thought you knew you should walk backwards. It’s easy to guess.”
Tang Erda: “…”
“I told you that Bai Liu was just playing around, did you believe him?” Liu Jiayi waved her hand impatiently, “Let’s go, you silly man.”
As expected, he walked out easily after walking backwards. Bai Liu pushed aside the fog and saw another figure in front of him.
Tang Erda subconsciously pulled out his revolver and tried to shoot the figure, but before he could even do anything, a black whip came out of the mist with a snap. The speed was so fast that Tang Erda didn’t even have time to pull away before he was whipped on the back of his hand.
This familiar weapon and the pain of the whip… Tang Erda withdrew his skill weapon and asked tentatively: “Spades?”
Spades walked out of the mist. He held the whip in his left hand and glanced at Tang Erda coldly: “Didn’t I tell you not to shoot casually?”
Tang Erda couldn’t help but “==”.
Why can Spades demand such outrageous things like not allowing others to use their skills and weapons in such a confident tone?
Bai Liu glanced at Spades lightly: “Don’t hit my team members casually.”
Spades said oh, then immediately turned to Tang Erda and said, “I’m sorry.”
Liu Jiayi, who was standing next to him, muttered in a low voice with disapproval, “You’re just going to say I’m sorry?”
Spades looked at Liu Jiayi calmly, raised his hand and whipped the back of his hand without hesitation then asked, “Is it alright now?”
Liu Jiayi: “…”
Tang Erda: “…”
Why would this person argue so seriously with an eight-year-old girl in such a childish way…
Seeing the serious look on Spades’ face and his aggressive attitude of arguing with Liu Jiayi to the end, Bai Liu had no choice but to stop him: “Okay, what clues did you find?”
Spades then turned to look at Bai Liu: “I found a woman in the cemetery.”
“Woman?” Bai Liu’s tone rose slightly, “Who?”
Spades looked directly at Bai Liu: “Alex’s former fiancée.”
Spades led Bai Liu and his party through the vast fog and arrived at a brand new town.
A brand new, or perhaps not so brand new, but more appropriately, a “whole” old town. [4]
The originally lively and noisy border town had become filled with old dust. The wooden signs were crumbling, and the writing on them had long since decayed and blurred. The stacked tents at the training camp were buried under many old industrial buildings. The shelf with the registration form was rusty and had been thrown aside.
The tavern was nowhere to be found.
In the location of the tavern was a grocery store that has long since closed. The closing date was written to be thirty years ago.
The ground was covered with scraps of paper, billboard plastic, and some vinyl disc fragments.
Bai Liu turned around and found that the lush battlefield rainforest had disappeared and was replaced by a huge factory. Next to it was a dilapidated billboard that read [Producer of tropical forest raw materials, global log production base]. Next to it was a a smiling lumberjack face oil painting.
The door of the factory, known as “the world’s largest log production base,” was locked, and the sign hanging on the door showed that it had been closed for a long time, similar to the closing time of the grocery store.
Bai Liu withdrew his gaze and continued walking through the ruined town.
Passing through the exit of the town and walking to a long-abandoned cemetery, Spades climbed over the rusty gate with familiarity and opened it for Bai Liu from the inside.
Bai Liu walked into the cemetery.
This was an extremely desolate and old cemetery. The marble monuments were covered with weeds. The cemetery was very messy. At first glance, it looked like a back garden that had not been taken care of for more than ten years. Crosses and tombstones were looming among the weeds.
But that was not the weirdest thing about this cemetery.
The weirdest thing about this cemetery was found out by Bai Liu, who carefully paid attention to the names of the deceased on every cross and tombstone.
The time of death, black and white photos, and names of the deceased on all the tombstones were exactly the same.
All the graves in the cemetery were the graves of Guy Davis.
And basically every tomb has been dug open. From the inside, you could vaguely see the corpses rushing out of the coffins that were violently destroyed, and the soil that was pushed out from the tomb next to them, piled on both sides of the tombstones.
Walking through the empty cemetery and reaching the corner, Bai Liu saw an old woman standing there holding a bouquet of flowers. She turned her back to Bai Liu, tremblingly bowed down, and placed a bouquet of flowers and a wedding dress on a tombstone.
“Hello.” Bai Liu called her softly, “Who are you?”
She turned around, her cloudy eyes filled with tears: “I used to be the fiancée of that boy Alex.”
“But that was fifty or sixty years ago.” She waved her hand, swept away the dust on the tombstone, bent at her waist and sat down with a sigh, saying, “Now, I’m just an old woman cleaning his tombstone.”
Bai Liu squatted down and looked into the old woman’s eyes: “What is your name?”
“Elena, just call me Elena.” The old woman looked back at Bai Liu, “Young man, who are you?”
Bai Liu said calmly: “Maybe you won’t believe me, but I am Alex’s comrade-in-arms.”
“Comrade?” The old woman indeed sneered, “Young man, I see that you are more senile than I. That war has been over for more than fifty years now. How about a more recent war setting for your dreams of being a war hero?”

[1] we’re assuming that this is referred to their reflections, correct us if we’re wrong.
[2] author keeps using plural term for guy but it sounds weird in english here so we decided to change it.
[3] in case this is confusing, it’s bai liu’s train of thought that was cut short.
[4] we literally have no idea what this is supposed to mean.
