Kyle was playing the role of a father to a girl he had just met. He didn’t understand what her purpose in his life was, but this was something he had felt before.

This was far from the case but Kyle needed to know the situation of the man so he could see if he could relinquish Jasmine back to him.

“Are you the one responsible for the patient that was brought in by the police?” A man in glasses questioned to which Kyle nodded to confirm this was the case.

“I have some good and bad news…” The doctor said before glancing at Jasmine before returning his attention to Kyle.

“Can we speak in private?” The doctor requested and Kyle realized that this must be serious.

“Jasmine, wait here for me, okay?” Kyle asked her and she nodded with a smile, oblivious to what was going on.

Kyle walked a couple of paces away from the child and was ready to receive the news the doctor wished to tell him about.

“Is he going to be okay?” Kyle asked, the worry in his voice evident because his actions no longer affected just the both of them but Jasmine as well.

“He is fine, he is suffering from mild concussion but nothing to worry about even though he has a few facial fractures so we will have to keep him here for some time,” The doctor informed Kyle making Kyle wonder what the bad news could be.

“I can cover the medical bills if that is the problem, I’m aware he has no insurance,” Kyle said without being prompted, assuming that to be the bad news.

“That is great but that isn’t the problem, we have discovered some strong illegal substance in his bloodstream. I’m afraid it was at dangerous levels as well, it is a miracle his heart didn’t give out…” The doctor said, looking over at Jasmine.

She had the same dirty clothes as him and the doctor could make an educated guess that they were related.

“I see…” Kyle responded, realizing that this man’s reckless behaviour was eventually going to leave Jasmine alone in the world.

“I will handle it,” Kyle responded before taking out a black card and handing it to the doctor.

“That should cover everything and I want you to hold onto it should any other charges come up. I know this is unorthodox but I believe this matter can be kept private, can’t it?” Kyle asked.

The doctor knew what he was driving at and not everyone had a strong moral compass.

The doctor was hesitant but he took the card from Kyle, Kyle patted him on the shoulder before returning to Jasmine.

Jasmine was his priority however he was the reason they were in this predicament.

But Kyle established that he was going to be alright and couldn’t have Jasmine looking so dirty for much longer.

This was why he returned home with her and understood how easy it would be for someone to just take her without repercussion.

This wasn’t any way to live life so why the hell did she have that smile on her face?

They arrived at his apartment and Kyle saw Jones and Aiysha standing outside, directing the workers on the finishing touches.

Kyle knew he had caused that family enough damage and kept his eyes peeled to his front, pretending he hadn’t seen them.

However, they didn’t hide their gazes because he was with a child and they wondered where the child came from.

“Hey man…” A voice said and Kyle took a deep breath, it was Jones.

“If you’re going to hit me again, can you wait until I take her inside?” Kyle asked but Jones could tell this wasn’t sarcasm.

“About that… I’m sorry…” Jones apologized.

“It is fine, you needed to get it out of your system. I understand,” Kyle responded without looking back.

He wasn’t going to drag on the conversation when he didn’t need to, he needed to keep his distance from this family before he ruined them.

Kyle could tell Aiysha expected him to acknowledge her but Kyle didn’t bother with this as she was the cause of all of this to begin with.

He was also aware that this apology might simply be their way of making sure they didn’t lose the contract they had with him even though that was impossible considering it was signed in ink.

It would make sense to be on good terms with the person you’re working with

Kyle finally got in and Jasmine’s jaw dropped the moment she saw his place.

WOAH! THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!!” Jasmine screamed at the top of her lungs.

This elicited a smile from Kyle.

Kyle knew she would feel more comfortable for a woman to bathe her and wanted her to start understanding boundaries when it came to such things.

There was only one woman that came to mind regarding this and that was Cassandra.

Kyle picked up his phone right away and gave her a call.

But all it took was a second, he took his eyes off her and before he knew it.

She had touched everything in sight and it was at this moment Kyle realized that this was going to be a lot harder than he had anticipated.
