The small market that Madam Kong was talking about was an everyday market that was set up around the afternoon and stopped functioning around the night. The entire market was filled with small stalls which were propped here and there.

Some had a sheet of cloth propped on four sticks while the others were proper wooden stalls. The entire market was filled with the shouts of the hawkers.

“Come one, come all! Take a look at these wooden antiques! I fetched them from the East Coast! Only two taels per piece!”

With his head and chin raised haughtily, he said to his wife, “Why are you getting angry at me, madam? I am just here to buy clothes for my sister. Compared to you, who left work to buy clothes for your lover whom you are keeping outside, it’s nothing.”

“Anyway there is no need to keep this fox outside, you can bring him home. Even though Brother Zian is a bit stern, he will not control your private affairs. I am also generous and big-hearted.”
