Master Sang and Master Xiu made their way to the courtyard of Jiang Mingzhu. They were not the only ones, even Eldest Sister Jiang and Second Sister Jiang came to the small courtyard that was given to Jiang Mingzhu.
The two of them needed to go to work, but they had not heard anyone calling them to have breakfast. How could they not come to see what was going on?
So when they all arrived at Jiang Mingzhu’s courtyard and forgot about a lavish breakfast, they did not even see a morsel of grain.
“What’s going on?” Eldest Sister Jiang asked with a frown on her face. She looked around the courtyard and was rather upset when she did not see anything on the dining table. “Why is the breakfast not ready yet?” Her voice was loud enough for the people inside the courtyard to hear her.
Second Sister Jiang was also not happy with the empty dining table but she did not say anything.
As she was the cause of most of the wealth of the family being sold off, she was worried that if she were to say something she would be scolded.
So, she left the matter in the hands of her eldest sister.
Anyway, it did not matter whether she said anything or not. Their elder sister was used to bullying Jiang Mingzhu so certainly she would think that it was alright to bully Master Deng due to his relationship with Jiang Mingzhu.
There was nothing wrong with staying quiet and saving herself from hearing cold words of mockery and snide.
Master Deng was washing the clothes of his wife and himself when he heard the voice of Eldest Sister Jiang and sneered. When he refused to cook breakfast, he thought that he would only have to deal with the mers of this house.
Who would have thought that the women of this family were used to bullying mers as well? Seriously, other than the biological differences, the women of this house were similar to those gossiping mers in every way!
He threw the robes that he was washing in the vat and then walked out of the bathhouse. No sooner did he step out, Jiang Mingzhu also walked out of her study room.
She was preparing to head over to work when she heard her eldest sister’s voice.
Jiang Mingzhu looked at the entire family who had come to her courtyard and frowned. She asked, “Whats the matter, eldest sister?”
Eldest Sister Jiang turned to look at Jiang Mingzhu and questioned her like she had committed a grave sin against the family, “Are you asking me what happened? Are you seriously asking me this?”
“Is there something wrong with me asking this?” Jiang Mingzhu asked, feeling even more bewildered by the tone and words of her eldest sister.
Why in the world was her eldest sister acting like this all of a sudden?
“Do you not see the empty table?” Eldest Sister Jiang hissed at Jiang Mingzhu, she was certain that Jiang Mingzhu was deliberately pretending to be stupid with her. “Where is the breakfast? I and your second sister need to go to work. Why hasn’t your husband cooked for us?”
Jiang Mingzhu frowned even more harshly when she heard the words of Eldest Sister Jiang. The way her eldest sister was talking was similar to a master talking to their servants.
It was as if her husband was the servant of this family and not a member. Why was Eldest Sister Jiang questioning her just because her husband did not cook today?
Hadn’t he been cooking for the past six months?
“Little Deng is feeling sick,” Jiang Mingzhu answered as she suppressed the anger in her heart. She didn’t want to fight early in the morning with her sister.
“How sick is he that he cannot cook a little bit of food?” Eldest Sister Jiang questioned with a frown on her face. “He only needs to cook a little meal, why is he acting so delicate? If he doesn’t cook, who will cook?”
“He didn’t even wash my clothes and iron them! I have to wear an old set of clothes,” Eldest Sister Jiang reproachfully said. “Look at the house, it’s a mess. Your husband should have cleaned and mopped the floor by now, what is he doing making a pigsty out of our house?”
“Why don’t you tell him that he is now in the Jiang family and not in the Deng family? He cannot live how he used to live in the Deng family. Our family is full of scholars we need the house clean and clothes washed on time,” Eldest Sister Jiang spoke in a stiff tone.
Behind her, her husband Master Xiu snickered softly. He looked down on Master Deng very much. He thought, who was he trying to show his anger to? No one treated him seriously and took him as the slave of the family. If it weren’t for the current condition they would have never married that mer in their family.
It was all because of the need for survival which made them accept that mer.
Did he seriously take himself as a member of this family? Even his wife had to watch what she was saying in front of his wife. Who was Master Deng to act so smug in front of them?
Master Deng, who heard Eldest Sister Jiang rebuke his family, stepped forward. He sneered and said, “My family might be hunters and work as butchers but they treat humans as humans. None of my brothers-in-law forces a single person to do all the household work.”
“Thus our house is always clean, but since you want to force the work of the entire household on me, then you have to get used to living in a pigsty. I will clean the house when I feel better.”
Humph, did they think that he had no temper and was a soft persimmon that could be pinched and squeezed as they liked? They must be dreaming! Before marrying Jiang Mingzhu, he was a hunter as well and could chop boars bigger than Eldest Sister Jiang.
