FIRST IMMORTAL OF THE SWORD

The Chapter 1993: The Collapsing Battlefield

The Chapter 1993: The Collapsing Battlefield

Within a stretch of mountainous ground, Luo Tiandu furrowed his brow. “Just a fifth-level Epoch Fragment, huh….?”

He’d just acquired an Epoch Fragment, but when he sensed that it was only fifth level, much of his initial delight faded.

He was an unparalleled divine son; it was hard for him to accept such a low-level opportunity at divinity. Still, there was nothing for it; opportunities were extremely limited, and Epoch Fragments above the third level were rare as could be.

“Brother Luo.” Hearty laughter resounded from afar, and a group whooshed over. Their leader was a valiant-looking man in silver robes. One of his companions was a god’s avatar of will. The other ten-or-so people were all divine emissaries.

Luo Tiandu’s pupils constricted. He turned and was about to flee when…

Whoosh!

The divine avatar of will, a decrepit old man, intercepted his path and said expressionlessly, “Don’t be afraid. Be good and cooperate, and we’ll let you live.”

Luo Tiandu’s expression darkened.

“Brother Luo, don’t make this difficult. Give us the Epoch Fragment, and we’ll leave immediately,” said the man in silver robes.

Luo Tiandu scanned the group, suppressed his fury, and said, “Lu Xuan, you sure are capable!”

The valiant-looking man in silver robes was another divine son. Prior to this, Lu Xuan would have in no way dared act so impudently before him!

“Heh heh.” Lu Xuan rubbed his nose and laughed. “Time changes everything, including men. Sometimes, a single step can make a world of difference.”

Then, he shrugged. “It’s not my fault I became a god ahead of you, now is it? Accept reality. There’s not much conflict between us, and I have no desire to kill you. Give me the Epoch Fragment, and this can end peacefully.”

His gaze was utterly smug and jeering.

Luo Tiandu’s expression darkened. Still, he had no choice but to accept that this was the reality of the situation.

Before, he’d stood above Lu Xuan. Now, Lu Xuan was already a deity, a true Lesser God! He’d advanced enough to overwhelm Luo Tiandu!

“And if I don’t give it to you?” Luo Tiandu said coldly. “Would you really dare to kill me?”

Lu Xuan’s smile faded. “With the Luo Family backing you, I naturally will refrain from striking the killing blow. Still, if you don’t cooperate, don’t blame us for our rudeness!”

With that, he suddenly took a step forward and reached for Luo Tiandu.

Bang!

Luo Tiandu took out a talisman and blocked this attack, but the impact still sent him staggering backward, his blood and qi churning.

“You insisted on doing this the hard way!” The decrepit elder snorted coldly. “Go ahead, try to defend yourself. Let’s see how long your trump cards can sustain you!”

If only Great Uncle Luo Heng’s avatar were still here. How could this have happened then? Luo Tiandu sighed to himself. There was nothing he could do. No amount of struggling could save him from getting trampled and humiliated.

Luo Tiandu took out the Epoch Fragment and flung it.

Whoosh!

Lu Xuan stretched out his hand and plucked it from the air, then threw back his head and laughed. “A wise man knows how to adapt to his circumstances. You know what’s good for you after all, Luo Tiandu!”

Luo Tiandu’s expression darkened, and he turned to leave without another word.

“Stop!” said Lu Xuan.

Luo Tiandu’s expression darkened. “Do you have other business with me?”

“I want your treasures too. In a battle for good fortune, the winner takes all. You’ve lowered your head and admitted defeat. Don’t tell me you don’t understand that rule?” laughed Lu Xuan.

“You…!” Luo Tiandu was so angry that his lungs threatened to burst.

“Do you plan to refuse?” The decrepit elder stared Luo Tiandu down.

Luo Tiandu felt deeply and utterly humiliated. He finally understood how it felt to be a dragon confined in a shallow pool.

But it was then that a tall, upright figure appeared out of nowhere.

“Su Yi?” Luo Tiandu froze, stunned.

Lu Xuan and the decrepit elder’s expressions shifted as they realized who this was.

“Are you getting robbed?” Su Yi scanned the group.

Luo Tiandu was instantly ashamed. He grimaced and said, “I’ve embarrassed myself in front of you.”

“Heretic! You’re prey the gods are dead set on killing. You’ll have a hard enough time ensuring your own safety, so I urge you not to get involved!” The old man’s gaze was cold and distant. “Or else, don’t blame us for our poor manners!”

Su Yi waved his sleeves.

Bang!

The decrepit elder exploded, scattering into a rain of light that drifted down to earth.

Lu Xuan and the divine emissaries gasped, and their eyes widened in shock.

The old man was a Mid-Rank God’s avatar of will. Who could have imagined that Su Yi could destroy him on the spot with a single wave of his sleeves?

The corners of Luo Tiandu’s lips twitched. He couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. So what if Su Yi has yet to attain divinity? They say, ‘If a god blocks your path, kill a god. If a Buddha blocks your path, kill the Buddha.’ Now, Su Yi has the abilities to do just that!

“Aren’t… Aren’t you afraid of the gods’ reprisal?” bellowed Lu Xuan.

Su Yi glanced at him. “Their avatars of will have already been destroyed. What’s there to be afraid of?”

“???” Lu Xuan’s eyes widened.

Luo Tiandu couldn’t help but ask, “They’re dead?”

There was no doubt about it. Neither he nor Lu Xuan and his cohort knew of the shocking grand battle that had really transpired at the Chaos Dao Cave.

“Mm,” said Su Yi. He didn’t explain.

Suddenly, Lu Xuan tossed the Epoch Fragment back to Luo Tiandu and said directly, “I admit defeat!”

“?” Luo Tiandu was a bit bewildered. You’re wimping out already?

Lu Xuan then waved his sleeves, and all of his treasures floated into the air. “Sir, these are your spoils. Please accept them. All I ask is that you show mercy.”

With that, he faced Su Yi and bowed.

When the divine emissaries saw this, they hurriedly offered up their treasures as well. The sight left Luo Tiandu wide-eyed and tongue-tied. They changed their tune in less time than it’d take to turn the page of a book!

“Should I kill them?” asked Su Yi.

Luo Tiandu hesitated, but in the end, he shook his head. “I’ll avenge this grudge myself. Besides, they wouldn’t have dared to actually kill me.”

Lu Xuan and the others inwardly sighed in relief.

Su Yi didn’t argue. Instead, he took out a first-level Epoch Fragment and stuffed it into Luo Tiandu’s hands, giving him no opportunity to argue. “You and are acquainted, so take this Epoch Fragment as a small token of my sincerity.”

Gratitude and warmth coursed through Luo Tiandu’s heart.

Lu Xuan, meanwhile, was completely dumbstruck. That’s a first-level Epoch Fragment! How could you casually give such a treasure away!? If Luo Tiandu uses that to become a god, his path is sure to far exceed mine!

Suddenly, Lu Xuan’s hair stood on end; he sensed Su Yi looking his way.

“There’s still one more treasure you’ve yet to offer me,” said Su Yi.

Lu Xuan froze, stunned. “What treasure?”

“Your Godhead.” Su Yi suddenly appeared directly in front of Lu Xuan, wrapped the power of reincarnation around his fingers, and pressed his palm on Lu Xuan’s head.

Boom!

A moment later, Lu Xuan convulsed, his face racked with agony as Su Yi ripped a resplendent bundle of Dao Light from his body.

Lu Xuan’s Godhead! His origins in the Grand Dao!

When the crowd saw this, their hair stood on end, and their souls practically left their bodies for sheer fright.

Thud!

Lu Xuan thudded to the ground, crying out in desperation and agony.

He’d only just become a god, and he’d barely gotten any time to enjoy it when someone stripped him of his Godhead and sent him plummeting back into the dust of mundanity!

This was even crueler than outright killing him.

“Take this one too,” said Su Yi, tossing the Godhead to Luo Tiandu. “I ought to get going. Next time we meet, we might well be in the God Domain.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Su Yi floated off.

Luo Tiandu watched him fade away. Just as he was about to disappear from view, Luo Tiandu couldn’t help but call out. “Brother Su, many thanks!”

Su Yi waved to him from afar without so much as turning his head. Before long, he’d faded from view completely.

“Esteemed Divine Son, are you alright?” The divine emissaries clustered around Lu Xuan, fraught with worry.

But then, Luo Tiandu’s eyes shone with dense murderous intent. He’d originally planned to become a god, then find Lu Xuan and settle the score, but now, he saw no further reason to wait!

He attacked without the slightest hesitation. Within moments, Lu Xuan and all of his emissaries had died brutal deaths. Not one of them survived.

Luo Tiandu stood alone, then let out a long breath. He felt much better.

Of course, he wasn’t simply doing this to vent his hatred. Rather, he knew that if he didn’t kill Lu Xuan now, word of his connection with Su Yi would inevitably spread.

Here in the Immortal Realm, that wouldn’t mean a thing, but in the God Domain, it would make him—and his entire clan—the target of the gods’ retribution!

Actually, my Luo Family is enemies with Su Yi, too. Who could have imagined that I’d somehow become his friend? Luo Tiandu felt a bit conflicted, but in the end, he made a decision. No matter what, I have to do everything in my power to dissuade my family from opposing Brother Su any further!

……

To Su Yi, saving Luo Tiandu was nothing but a minor interlude.

He’d been searching for Nan Pingtian’s whereabouts, and he already had a lead. That was why he left immediately after saving Luo Tiandu.

Two days later.

The Epoch Battlefield began a dramatic change. Massive rifts appeared throughout heaven and earth, leaving the entire plane riddled with holes. It seemed like it might collapse at any moment.

“The Epoch Battlefield will disappear soon….” Divine Venerate Xi Yue looked up at the dome of heaven.

This one-in-a-million chance at divinity had lasted less than two weeks. Now, it seemed it would soon be over!

At the same time, the experts scattered throughout the Epoch Battlefield sensed the changes. Most of them were deeply unwilling to see this happen.

This was because the vast majority of them had yet to find a chance at divinity!

This was the bitterness of striving for godhood. They’d waited bitterly for a long, long time, long enough for the Path of Divinity to appear. However, only a tiny handful had been lucky enough to acquire a chance at divinity.

Furthermore, over the past few days, many of them had died at Su Yi’s hands. The dead included divine children, divine avatars of will, and a few Great Realm cultivators of the Immortal Realm.

All of them had enmities or grudges against Su Yi, albeit to varying degrees. Su Yi couldn’t be bothered to go after those he had no enmity with; he’d never been the type to wantonly massacre the innocent.

Meanwhile, inside a hillock, Nan Pingtian’s heart filled with excitement. “It’s finally about to end!”

After fleeing the vicinity of the Chaos Dao Cave, he’d been so overcome with fright that he could neither eat nor sleep in peace. He’d fled for a long time before finally finding a safe place to hide.

Now, he no longer harbored fantasies of achieving godhood. All he wanted was to survive and make it back to the Immortal Realm!

Boom!

The firmament split, and a current of chaos qi swept outward. The entire plane showed signs of withering and cracking.

Nan Pingtian didn’t hesitate. He leaped into the air and shot toward a massive rift in the sky. Once through it, he’d be able to return to the Immortal Realm!

But before he’d gotten far, a large hand clamped him on the shoulder.
