First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2217 - Nothing to Hide

Chapter 2217 – Nothing to Hide

Bai Liyun was stunned. “I’m not entirely sure. Why not have Xiao Jian answer that?”

Lu Qingmei smiled. “That would be best.”

“Xiao Jian, tell us how you acquired Unfettered Wanderer,” Bai Liyun ordered.

All eyes were instantly upon Su Yi.

In the present-day God Domain, Yi Daoxuan was a sinner cursed throughout the ages, an irredeemable villain. His sword, Unfettered Wanderer, was drenched in blood, a true vicious weapon.

Although everyone here knew that Xiao Jian had bought Unfettered Wanderer at the Spring and Autumn City branch of the Qilin Trading Company, since the Blue Rose Demon Master wanted to hear more details, they naturally didn’t mind hearing Xiao Jian’s story firsthand.

Su Yi sighed to himself, then concisely recounted how he’d acquired Unfettered Wanderer at the auction.

“This lofty one is quite curious. It’s just a broken sword, and one long bereft of spirituality at that. Why pay such an enormous price to acquire it?” said Lu Qingmei, her beautiful eyes bright and intent. She seemed intensely curious.

She was pressed in plain, wide-sleeved robes, and her hair was tied up. She looked like a beautiful young woman, standing tall yet relaxed, with a unique, dignified charm about her.

The question instantly piqued the crowd’s curiosity. She’s right. Why pay such an astronomical price to acquire a broken sword? Much less the personal weapon of that fiend Yi Daoxuan?

“Xiao Jian, answer the question honestly. Don’t hide anything!” Third Elder Ku Zhen said solemnly, his gaze cold. He’d finally found the opportunity he was looking for!

He continued, “As I’m sure you know, that sword belonged to Yi Daoxuan. It’s a true, inauspicious weapon. Owning it could easily lead to misunderstandings!”

Many of the audience sensed that something strange was afoot, and their brows furrowed slightly. The atmosphere at the banquet grew stifled.

Su Yi knew that if he answered badly, Ku Zhen would latch onto it and refuse to let go.

Lu Qingmei wasn’t so easily fooled, either. She was sure to keep asking questions until she got answers.

In other words, if he couldn’t provide a satisfactory answer, he might well get through this, but both Lu Qingmei and Ku Zhen were sure to be suspicious, and they’d surely probe further in the future.

It was even possible they’d resort to extraordinary means to force him to reveal his true identity.

But Su Yi wasn’t worried about anything. He leisurely took a sip of wine, pondered briefly, and was just about to answer when a voice like the natural music of the heavens rang out.

“I can answer that question.”

The crowd looked toward the entrance in shock.

This banquet was extremely exclusive. Never mind the ordinary disciples, not even most of the sect’s higher-ups were qualified to participate.

Yet now, someone had barged in unannounced. Who wouldn’t have been surprised?

The speaker, a woman, walked into the room. Her slender, graceful figure was adorned in a blue-green dress, and her ink-black hair was tied casually into a loose bun that highlighted her long, slender neck.

The lower half of her face was obscured by a veil, but this did nothing to hide her extraordinary beauty and disposition. It was obvious to everyone that this was an unparalleled beauty!

When Su Yi saw her, he couldn’t help but be stunned. Madam Qi Wei!? What’s she doing in Qingwei Divine Court, and what is she doing, just strolling into this banquet like that?

The others looked confused, too.

But then, Second High Elder Bai Liyun smiled and rose. “Wan Yue, you’re finally here.”

Wan Yue! Sect Leader Liang Lingxu and Ku Zhen exchanged glances. They finally understood who this woman was.

But then, Madam Qi Wei walked into the center of the room and laughed. “Senior, there’s no need to hide my identity; I have no intention of hiding it either.”

Her deep blue eyes swept across the crowd, and she said forthrightly, “I’m the leader of the Spring and Autumn City branch of the Qilin Trading Company. My name is Qi Wei. The people there are used to calling me Madam Qi Wei, but while I’m staying in Qingwu Divine Court, you’re welcome to just call me by name.”

Uproar ensued.

Bai Liyun rubbed her brow and laughed. “When your seniors arranged for you to come here, they told you to do so under a pseudonym, but look at you! You’ve only just arrived, yet here you are, announcing your identity for the world to hear.”

This sounded like a rebuke, but in truth, her tone was doting.

“I’m not here to do anything shameful. Why should I hide my identity?” Qi Wei said with a radiant smile. She then glanced at Su Yi with feigned casualness.

Su Yi said nothing, but he knew that she was here for him. That woman suspects my identity. I’m certain she’s here on my account!

Lu Qingmei and Third Elder Ku Zhen were already suspicious of his identity, and now, Madam Qi Wei was here too!

“No one in Qingwu Divine Court would dare take you for a criminal,” laughed Bai Liyun. She was obviously delighted.

She turned and said to Lu Qingmei, “Fellow Daoist, this is the daughter of the leader of the Qilin Race. She’s been strong-willed since she was a little girl, and she’s come to take up temporary residence in Qingwu Divine Court.”

The crowd was instantly in uproar. Some of the higher-ups completely lost their composure, their eyes wide and their jaws hanging slack.

The reason was simple. The Qilin Race was among the oldest clans in the God Domain. Their accumulated power was so immense that even some other top factions paled by comparison!

No one would have imagined that “Madam Qi Wei,” the manager of the Spring and Autumn City branch of the Qilin Trading Company, was the daughter of their leader!

If word got out, it would send waves of astonishment rippling throughout the entire Southern Flame Divine Continent.

“So that’s it,” said Lu Qingmei. The way she looked at Qi Wei shifted slightly.

She was a Nine-Tribulation Master Goddess, a living legend. She naturally wasn’t concerned about a junior like Qi Wei, but… She couldn’t disregard the Qilin Race!

That woman actually has such an incredible background? Su Yi was a bit stunned, too. He suddenly recalled what Qi Wei had told him earlier:

“Should you run into Su Yi, please tell him that if he runs into difficulties he cannot resolve on his own, he’s welcome to come to the Qilin Trading Company for aid. It doesn’t matter which branch. All of them will be ready to lend him their support at any time!

“The Qilin Trading Company can make an exception for him and him only. This isn’t my decision, either. It’s the joint decision of the entire Qilin Race.”

Looking back on it now, if she was really the young mistress of the entire Qilin Race, there was no reason for her to say something like that to deceive him.

But… Neither Li Fuyou nor Yi Daoxuan had any sort of deep bond with the Qilin Race!

It was just too strange.

For now, though, Su Yi set these questions aside. He had no intention of asking, unless… Qi Wei brought them up of her own accord!

“My young friend Qi Wei, you said you can answer my questions about Unfettered Wanderer. I’m curious to see what kind of answer you’ll give me,” Lu Qingmei said with a smile. Her beautiful eyes gazed intently at Qi Wei.

She looked like a young woman. If not for her lofty cultivation base, she and Qi Wei would have seemed like members of the same generation.

Lu Qingmei’s beauty wasn’t at all inferior to Qi Wei’s, either.

“Let me find a place to sit down first,” said Qi Wei. She then walked right over to Su Yi, sat down, and refilled his cup before filling her own. “We meet again, Fellow Daoist Xiao.”

The crowd’s expressions shifted. All of them had strange looks in their eyes.

Qi Wei was a guest, but also an outsider, yet she’d made herself perfectly at home. She wasn’t the least bit polite, nor did she concern herself with the opinion of the others gathered here. She just did whatever she wanted!

She was even perfectly casual in response to the Blue Rose Demon Master’s questions!

Her sheer composure was enough to broaden many of the higher-ups’ horizons. This was confidence! This was the unique bearing of the young mistress of the Qilin Race!

Others couldn’t hope to imitate her; if they did, it would be taken as extreme disrespect.

But when Qi Wei did it, it seemed perfectly natural. She had every right to behave like this!

Yet a lofty, distinguished guest like her had sat beside Xiao Jian of all people, filling his cup before her own. The attendees couldn’t help but take notice of this.

“Thank you,” said Su Yi. He accepted the wine, but his attitude was lukewarm.

Qi Wei smiled, then turned to look at Lu Qingmei. “Unfettered Wanderer is broken, but in truth, its spirituality remains. It’s still far beyond any ordinary treasure. If it were trash, how could the Qilin Trading Company possibly have auctioned it off?”

“That’s not what I’m wondering about,” said Lu Qingmei. “I want to know why Xiao Jian wanted it badly enough to spend so much to acquire it.”

Qi Wei couldn’t help but laugh derisively. “Forgive my boldness, but how is it any of your business what Xiao Jian spends his money on?”

The question was far too rude. Countless people were inwardly startled. They’d never have believed that a junior like Qi Wei would dare be so bold!

Lu Qingmei’s brow furrowed imperceptibly, but then, she smiled. “Little girl, why do I get the sense that you’re hostile to me?”

“Hostile?” Qi Wei laughed. “I’m just open and direct, that’s all. If I offended you, I’m sure a venerable ancient like you won’t take offense.”

Lu Qingmei laughed, and her bright eyes flashed. She said casually, “You’ve got quite the sharp tongue on you, little girl, but rest assured. I’m not concerned with such trivialities.”

“You’re broad-minded indeed, Senior,” praised Qi Wei. “I’m far, far inferior by comparison.”

The crowd exchanged glances. Almost everyone here was an old-timer who’d lived too many years to count. Who would have missed that everything Qi Wei did was in opposition to the Blue Rose Demon Master?

This was entirely unexpected and completely bewildering. No one understood why Qi Wei would do this.

Even Su Yi couldn’t help but take another look at her. He couldn’t figure out what she was trying to do. Is she trying to back me up?Or does she have ulterior motives?

If she isn’t after something, why would she clash with Lu Qingmei publicly? She’ll pay a rather heavy price for that.

Who’d go to such lengths and bring such trouble on themselves for no reason?

But then, Third Elder Ku Zhen said out of nowhere, “Xiao Jian, everyone is waiting to hear your answer. Why aren’t you saying anything?”
