Chapter 1962: So, It’s that Old-Timer
The God Domain.
A cave swathed in misty clouds.
A dignified voice roared. “Heretic, how dare you ruin this lofty one’s plans?”
A man in a feather coat sat within the cave, his hair hanging loose and his face ashen. Were Su Yi here, he would have recognized the man at a glance. This was obviously the same person as the illusory figure he’d seen in the black flying knife!
“No, this won’t do. I absolutely cannot just let this go. No matter what, I have to figure out a way to send my avatar of will into the Epoch Battlefield!” The man in the feather coat gnashed his teeth, his expression murderous. “Even if… I have to pay a price, it’ll be worth it!”
……
The Epoch Battlefield. The top of a mountain.
Su Yi raised and swung his sword, cleaving into a panther-like variant species’ leg and slicing off a piece of flesh.
After taking inventory of his spoils, Su Yi acquired two dead natural-born variant species. The panther was one of them.
The other was a black-skinned toad. It was a hideous sight, and Su Yi couldn’t work up even the slightest appetite for it. Thus, he planned to taste the panther first. These natural variant species were born of primordial chaos, and their entire bodies were treasures. Their bones, tendons, claws, and scales could be refined into treasures, while their flesh could be made into medicine.
They were incomparably rare, practically unseen in the outside world, but now, Su Yi planned to cook one to satisfy his stomach. It was extremely extravagant.
“I’ll leave this to you.” Su Yi tossed the hunk of meat to the Divine Replenishment Furnace. Before long, the furnace crackled with meat juice, and an enticing, savory fragrance wafted into the air.
“Your Excellency, the essence in this beast’s flesh is even greater than an unparalleled Great Profound Stage elixir,” sighed the Divine Replenishment Furnace.
“Don’t swipe any,” Su Yi said distractedly. He was busy examining the Epoch Fragment he’d acquired from the riverbed.
It was about the size of a fist, and it looked like a fiery gem. It was as radiant as the misty light of dawn, and the power of its Epoch Law surged through it like a current. Its aura was incomparably tyrannical.
This Epoch Fragment is likely around fifth-level. It might well let someone become a Lesser God, but their potential will be too limited to become anything more than that.
He’d learned about Epoch Fragments from Xi Ning, and he understood their ranking system, including “the six levels and the supreme.”
“Your Excellency, you can eat now,” said the Divine Replenishment Furnace.
Su Yi put the Epoch Fragment away, then grabbed the hunk of meat and ate with relish, juices dripping down his face.
The beast’s flesh was full of the indescribable essence of the Grand Dao. It didn’t just have a wondrous texture; when it entered his stomach, it transformed into a boundless, pure power of the Dao that fused completely into Su Yi’s cultivation base.
When he combined it with fine wine, Su Yi’s entire body felt light and airy.
Once he was thoroughly satisfied, Su Yi got back to work. He raised his hand and tossed the Epoch Fragment into the air.
Whoosh!
It released dazzling, resplendent radiance into the sky. Su Yi, meanwhile, silently hid himself and the Divine Replenishment Furnace.
Time slipped by. All the while, the Epoch Fragment danced beneath the dome of heaven, flashing with resplendent firelight.
It wasn’t long before a voice tinged with surprise and delight rang out.
“Hurry! There’s an Epoch Fragment over there!”
“Over there! Hurry!”
…A group of terrifying figures shot through the air. There were six of them in total.
Their leader was a tall, stalwart man in military robes. When his eyes looked around, they flashed with divine radiance. This was clearly a divine son.
“Come here!” The man in military attire threw back his head, burst into laughter, and shot forth, plucking the Epoch Fragment from the sky.
“Congratulations, Esteemed Divine Son!” The divine emissaries approached to congratulate him, one by one.
“Hahaha! My luck’s quite something. This is only my second day in the Epoch Battlefield, but I’ve already acquired a fifth-level Epoch Fragment!” His face was nothing but smiles. “Although I’m not interested in an opportunity of this level, if I bring it back to the clan, they’re sure to reward me generously!”
He’d only just said this when the humming of a sword rang out.
Boom!
A perfectly straight rift tore open in the sky. By the time the group senses it, a streak of sword qi appeared seemingly out of nowhere, arrived just above the divine son’s head, and descended.
As natural as flowing water and as forceful as lightning!
That terrifying sword force seemed unstoppable. It effortlessly cleaved through the divine son’s defensive power and descended, passing right through his head.
His entire body instantly split down on the midline, then crumbled to pieces and disintegrated into powder before his blood could even splatter the air.
The divine emissaries’ eyes widened with horror.
An ambush! The divine son fell to a single attack!?
It happened too quickly for them to react in time, let alone rush to his aid.
Whoosh!
The Epoch Fragment landed in a large, fair hand as Su Yi’s figure came back into view.
“Su…Su Yi!” someone cried out in horror.
By now, who could have failed to realize what had happened? Su Yi had obviously been lying in ambush. He could never have assassinated the divine son otherwise!
“Retreat!” The divine emissaries turned and fled, but they were one step too late. A swath of interweaving sword qi whooshed forth, massacring every last divine emissary.
Not one escaped.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace knew its place, and it immediately started scouring the battlefield for spoils.
“Just as I thought. If I want to go fishing, an Epoch Fragment is the best possible bait,” sighed Su Yi.
He’d planned to hide his presence and assassinate his enemies that way, but now, he’d changed his mind.
“Your Excellency, there’s something strange about this Epoch Treasure!”
The Divine Replenishment Furnace proffered a black jade scepter. “It’s similar to Lu Beiye’s flying knife. Divine power is taking shape within it!”
Su Yi accepted it and looked it over, then used the power of reincarnation to erase the divine power inside the scepter.
Just as he expected, the black scepter was still impossible to subdue. In the end, it broke free of his grip and fled.
Su Yi wasn’t at all wistful about it, and when the Divine Replenishment Furnace had finished gathering the spoils, Su Yi immediately set off. He’d decided to continue “fishing” somewhere else.
……
Twelve hours later.
“Su Yi, you’re simply despicable!!” A heaven-shaking, grief-stricken, infuriated roar rang out.
The speaker was an old man in imperial robes. Earlier, he and his three companions had discovered an Epoch Fragment, and they practically went mad with delight. They didn’t hesitate to attempt to subdue it.
They never would have guessed that they’d invite Su Yi’s attacks instead.
The old man’s three companions died practically simultaneously, their bodies ripped to shreds by boundless sword qi and their souls dispersed. Even the old man was badly injured. His body had split, and all that remained was his severely damaged soul.
“You’re weaker than me. What good will shouting do you?” said Su Yi, approaching from afar.
Splurt!
A streak of sword qi swept outward, destroying the old man’s soul on the spot.
“Am I being overly insidious?” Su Yi asked the Divine Replenishment Furnace as it gathered the spoils.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace said righteously, “Your Excellency, I forbid you from speaking of yourself in that way! Their greed for divinity muddled their heads, and their greed ultimately led to their demise. How could you possibly be to blame?”
Su Yi nodded in satisfaction. “Well said.”
The furnace said solemnly, “I’m simply stating facts. Besides, even in a fair, open battle, they’d be no match for you, Your Excellency. None would escape death. Actually, the way this humble furnace sees it, dying at your hands was an enormous honor, and…”
When he saw that the furnace could go on like this indefinitely, Su Yi put a stop to it. “Enough. Back to work.”
The furnace was all too happy to agree, and it obsequiously resumed gathering the spoils.
……
Over the next three days, Su Yi continuously sought out good spots for “fishing,” and he slew four more groups of enemies that way.
The more powerful of the groups were led by divine children. Even the weaker groups consisted of Great Profound Stage old-timers.
Nonetheless, without exception, they died brutal deaths when they attempted to claim Su Yi’s Epoch Fragment.
In the process, Su Yi acquired an enormous collection of trophies.
The Great Profound Stage experts’ belongings largely failed to draw his attention, so he tossed them all into the Divine Replenishment Furnace. He’d give them to the Academy of Eternal Night when he returned to the Immortal Realm.
What really drew Su Yi’s attention were the medicinal herbs, divine materials, and natural variant species born in the Epoch Battlefield!
By now, he’d acquired seventeen stalks of divine medicine, twenty-four varieties of divine material, four living variant species, and six dead variant species.
It was an unquestionably enormous harvest.
Over time, Su Yi found himself rather enjoying the process of tricking and killing his enemies.
He could both eliminate his enemies and gather trophies. It was far better than bitterly searching all over the place by himself.
Of course, all of this was based on the fact that he’d yet to encounter anyone capable of really giving him a fight or anyone who’d proven their Dao and become a god.
Su Yi predicted that it wouldn’t be long before experts who’d proven their Dao and become gods appeared in the Epoch Battlefield!
That was when the true danger would begin!
…
A barren plain.
Su Yi planned to go “fishing” again.
The Epoch Fragment danced in the sky, releasing a rain of resplendent light. It was dazzling and bright. By now, this was an old, familiar game.
Su Yi hid in the darkness and waited for his prey to fall into his lap.
Before long, almost two hours had passed, but no fish took the bait. Su Yi couldn’t help but frown. Did I choose the wrong location?
Just as he was contemplating whether or not to leave and try someplace else, a figure appeared. It was extremely indistinct, and it wasn’t until it arrived nearby that Su Yi noticed it.
What an extraordinary cloaking technique. Who is this person? Su Yi exclaimed inwardly. He held his breath and silently readied himself for battle. There was no doubt about it: this was a meticulously cautious foe!
Su Yi planned to attack the moment his target attempted to claim the Epoch Fragment. He absolutely couldn’t give him any chance to escape.
That hidden figure surveyed the area for a full ten minutes before apparently concluding that there was no danger. Then, his figure blurred as he shot into the air and charged at the Epoch Fragment.
Only then did Su Yi see the figure’s features clearly. Despite himself, he was startled.
No wonder they were so meticulously cautious… So, it was that old guy all along!
