First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 1909: Grand Aspirations of This LifetimeHe hasn’t even said what it is yet, but he’s telling Su Yi not to lose his temper in advance? The crowd was completely baffled.
Su Yi, meanwhile, furrowed his brow. He took a step forward, arriving beneath the dome of heaven in a flash.
“I’m not angry," he said, "but I'm not interested in your ‘generous gift,’ either.”
As he spoke, he approached Zhu Tianyou, his gaze as calm as ever.
Zhu Tianyou’s pupils constricted. He immediately said, “The gift involves the Nine Races of the Spirit Domain. Are you sure you don’t want to hear about it?”
Su Yi ignored him so thoroughly that it was as if he hadn’t even heard anything. His footsteps never even paused.
“No matter what you have to say, since you were so bold as to come here to ‘offer congratulations,’ I naturally ought to see you on your way personally.”
His voice was as calm as the surface of a lake, but it made the onlookers tremble.
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Su Yi attacked. He casually stretched down his hand and pressed down.
Boom!A rain of sword qi fell like resplendent suns pouring down from the heavens.
Zhu Tianyou immediately dodged, but to his horror, he discovered that terrifying sword force had sealed the entire area off completely. No matter where he tried to flee, it was useless.
“Break!!” Zhu Tianyou roared. He raised his palms into the air, like a hegemon holding a tripod cauldron aloft.
Bang!!!
It was as if Zhu Tianyou had been struck by lightning. That tyrannical sword qi shattered his defenses and all attempts to block.
At a critical juncture, a glittering golden flying knife shot forth, erupting with golden radiance. Only then did Zhu Tianyou manage to block the descent of sword rain. Even so, he was forced back.
Splurt!
He coughed up blood, and his face paled. Astonishment and horror were written all over his face. Meanwhile, that rain of sword qi swept through the sky with unstoppable force, like an axe through rotting wood. It slammed into the Great Realm divine emissaries clustered behind Zhu Tianyou.
Boom!
The divine emissaries were sent flying in all directions. Agonized cries and shrieks rang out continuously. They were as wretched as could be.
One attack, and all of Zhu Tianyou’s divine emissaries were defeated!
Everyone was tongue-tied.
Some of the experts who’d witnessed the Immortal Peach Assembly realized that after just three short months, Sovereign Venerate Su was even stronger than before!
“That all you got?” Su Yi sneered. “I don’t get it. Who gave you the courage to throw your lives away like this? It’s simply… too stupid!”
He raised his right hand, and sword intent gathered at his fingertip.
“Stop!” Zhu Tianyou cried out frantically. “Look! See what this is?”
He raised a jade bracelet into the air.
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. What’s that?
But then, Lin Feng cried out, “It’s the Qingyi Jade Bracelet! That belongs to Second Senior Apprentice Sister!”
His expression filled with surprise and fury; he realized that this didn’t bode well for her.
Second Senior Apprentice Sister?
Su Yi instantly understood. Lin Feng was talking about his fifth incarnation’s second disciple, Ning Xiu!
During the Primeval Era, Ning Xiu took the Yin-Yang Diagram and left the Immortal Realm, venturing into the River of Epochs in search of her master, Li Fuyou. There’d been no word of her since, and she’d never returned.
But now, Zhu Tianyou had somehow gotten his hands on her bracelet. That unquestionably implied that something unexpected had happened to her after she ventured into the River of Epochs all those years ago.
Su Yi frowned and stopped in his tracks. “This is the congratulatory gift you prepared for me?”
Zhu Tianyi inwardly sighed in relief as he realized that the bracelet had achieved its intended effect.
“I know that a bracelet like this isn’t enough to threaten you with,” Zhu Tianyou said gravely, “And I have no intention of threatening you.”
“Oh?” said Su Yi. “What do you want to do, then?”
“I want to make an exchange.” Zhu Tianyou took out a jade slip and passed it to him. “You’ll understand once you’ve seen this.”
Su Yi accepted the jade slip. Moments later, he finally understood what was going on—Zhu Tianyou was really just an errand boy. He was here to carry out this transaction on behalf of another divine son, Feng Wuji.
The offer was simple: So long as Su Yi went to a place called the Forbidden Demon Ruins and acquired a divine material known as Undying Demon Gold, he’d learn how to rescue his disciple.
They weren't offering him Ning Xiu.
Zhu Tianyou suddenly said, “If you refuse, Ning Xiu is doomed.”
Su Yi’s expression didn’t so much as waver. “What makes you say that?”
Zhu Tianyou laughed. “You aren’t afraid of threats, but neither is Feng Wuji. Even if you threaten him with the annihilation of his entire clan, he won’t bat an eye.”
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. “Does he think that just because he came here from the God Domain, I can’t touch the clan behind him?”
Zhu Tianyou shook his head. “No, you don’t understand Feng Wuji. He’s a man of his word, and he’s never feared anything at all. When I left, he said that if you refused, he’d just kill Ning Xiu and be done with it.”
The crowd’s hearts quivered just hearing it.
Lin Feng’s expression was as dark as could be, and he was obviously frantic. He couldn’t help but say, “Master, Second Senior Apprentice Sister…”
But before he could finish, Su Yi said gently, “Relax. I won’t let anything happen to Ning Xiu.”
Master?
The crowd was in uproar. Everyone was stunned.
How could Lin Feng, an unparalleled Sword Sovereign of the Primeval Era, possibly be Sovereign Venerate Su’s disciple?
This was an earth-shattering revelation. The crowd found it difficult to accept.
The Sword-Bearing Ape’s eyes widened, and he stared at Su Yi in disbelief. Waves of shock coursed through his heart. Of those present, only he guessed Su Yi’s identity.
Sky Venerate Spiritual Desolation, Li Fuyou!
The master of Spiritual Desolation Mountain, the master with four Sword Sovereign disciples, and the most transcendent and mysterious sword immortal of the Primeval Era!
Long ago, the Sword-Bearing Ape was fortunate enough to earn the Sky-Covering Boat’s recognition. It carried him to Spiritual Desolation Mountain, where he contemplated the Grand Dao. How could he not know about Li Fuyou? In fact, he was the one who’d first told Su Yi about Li Fuyou, including that he had four unparalleled Sword Sovereign disciples: Luo Changning, Ning Xiu, Lin Feng, and Dong Xuan!
But… the ape would never in a million years have guessed that Su Yi, the reincarnation of his friend Wang Ye, was also Li Fuyou!
The Sword-Bearing Ape stood there in a daze, completely overcome with shock. Li Fuyou, Wang Ye, Su Yi… which is the real him?
Su Yi was quite rueful too. Lin Feng was unfettered and proud. This was the first time he'd called Su Yi "Master." This milestone hadn’t come easily, but… Su Yi wasn’t at all happy about it. Lin Feng had only done it because he was concerned about Ning Xiu’s safety.
Later, I’ll just have to ensure that he’s wholeheartedly willing to call me ‘master,’ thought Su Yi.
“Does that mean you agree?” laughed Zhu Tianyou. He looked smug.
The atmosphere was instantly tense. All eyes were on Su Yi. It was obvious to everyone that Su Yi was likely to capitulate to Feng Wuji’s threats.
But against all expectations, Su Yi shook his head. “Tell Feng Wuji that I can agree to his conditions, but he has to let Ning Xiu go first.”
Zhu Tianyou sneered. “Impossible! Feng Wuji has already made himself clear. Agree to his conditions as they are, or refuse. There’s no room for negotiations!”
Su Yi ignored him and continued, “I’ll give him three days to think it over. I want to see Ning Xiu within three days. Otherwise, I really will destroy his entire clan!”
He spoke calmly, and with incontrovertible force.
Zhu Tianyou’s smile faded, and his brow furrowed. “I said, there’s no room for negotiation!”
Boom!
Su Yi raised his hand and slashed the air. Countless streaks of sword qi exploded into being and shot forth, slaughtering every last one of Zhu Tianyou’s Great Realm divine emissaries.
Blood fell like a waterfall.
It was like a vision of purgatory!
This sudden development left the crowd stunned. Zhu Tianyou was startled too. Chills coursed down his spine, and his face went ashen. “You…”
Su Yi stared coldly at him. “One more word out of turn, and I’ll kill you.”
Zhu Tianyou clamped his jaw shut.
“Remember: you’re to pass on my message to Feng Wuji, word for word,” said Su Yi. “Now scram!”
Zhu Tianyou’s face contorted with shame and fury.
He was a divine son from the God Domain. He had an illustrious background and a heaven-defying cultivation base. Su Yi’s insults were unquestionably an enormous humiliation. But in the end… He endured!
With a swoosh of his sleeves, he left, too afraid to utter another word.
Seeing this sent waves crashing through the crowd’s hearts, but Su Yi disregarded it and returned to the elevated platform on the ritual grounds. “Let’s continue.”
It seemed that in his eyes, this little interlude wasn’t even worth mentioning.
His sheer calm composure unwittingly won the crowd over!
……
That day marked the opening ceremony of the rebuilt Academy of Eternal Night. During the ceremony, Su Yi announced his purpose for re-opening the academy, as well as its rules, regulations, and vision.
Word quickly spread throughout the Immortal Realm, causing widespread discussion.
The opening ceremony had an altogether different significance to Su Yi.
During the Primeval Era, his fifth incarnation, Li Fuyou, stood proudly at the pinnacle of the Immortal Realm. He’d built a blessed ground for cultivation in the Eastern Sea, and all those blessed by fate could cultivate there.
Prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals, his sixth incarnation, Wang Ye, built the Academy of Eternal Night. He had the power to appoint and remove monarchs of the Central Immortal Palace, and he watched over the Nine Gates of Heaven. He spent much of his life on the battlefield, and he influenced an entire era. His name had been passed on ever since, and people spoke of him to this day.
In this lifetime, Su Yi was already as strong as Wang Ye at his peak, but his prestige and influence were far inferior. And in terms of strength, he was far inferior to Li Fuyou.
He’d thus started pondering what he’d do when he reached the pinnacle of the Immortal Dao, and what he’d leave the Immortal Realm when he left.
He wasn’t concerned with fame and fortune, but even if he could disregard most things, he wanted to do a little something for the people he cared about.
Thus, at the opening ceremony, Su Yi solemnly announced the grand ambition he had for the Immortal Realm in this lifetime——
One day, he’d remove the latent threat of the demons of the Beyond altogether, granting the denizens of the Immortal Realms a lasting peace!
One day, he’d leave his treasures of the Dao to enlighten the masses so that each cultivator might soar to prominence like a dragon!
One day, he’d open the Path of Divinity and break the seal the gods had placed upon it. This would give all Great Realm experts a chance at ascending to divinity!
He announced all three goals to the public.
They caused an unprecedented uproar throughout the Immortal Realm. Everyone was astonished, shaken, and excited.
