First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 1902: My Name Is Su Yi, and I Come From the Human RealmSu Yi didn’t rush to wipe out his enemies immediately.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t, but that he didn’t want to. He wanted to use the Immortal Peach Assembly to establish his prestige and his enemies’ heads to issue a warning to the world.
First, colluding with the demons of the Beyond would not be tolerated!
Second, every debt had its debtor. Su Yi had returned, but he’d only kill those who needed killing!
Numerous experts of various top immortal sects had gathered on the slopes of Cloudsoar Peak, but none of them dared to fight. None of them dared flee, either.
Their faces were ashen and full of despair.
“If we swear an oath to fight for the Immortal Realm at the Nine Gates of Heaven and make amends, would you spare our lives?” asked Sect Leader Xuan Zhong of the Church of Supreme Oneness.
“No,” said Su Yi.
Xuan Zhong let out a bleak sigh. “The winner is king, and the loser is an outlaw. I understand, but now that the end is in sight, I’m…. unwilling to accept it!”
He suddenly looked up at Su Yi. “I have faith that when our founder becomes a god, you won’t escape death either!”Bang!
Xuan Zhong caught ablaze, and in the blink of an eye, all that remained of him was ash.
His calm, determined last words still echoed through the air.
The crowd shifted. The leader of the Church of Supreme Oneness had killed himself!
Su Yi muttered, “So, you’re not completely spineless. You’re at least better than your founder; he’s like a turtle too afraid to come out of its shell.”
He then looked at Qi Nie and the other sect leaders. “How about you kill yourselves too?”
They were instantly overcome with despair, shame, and fury. Someone roared, “We aren’t afraid to die. Su Yi, you murdered several divine children and offended their gods. You’ll soon face retribution for what you’ve done!”
Bang!
A swath of sword light descended and annihilated him.
“The lofty Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign has sunk so low as to bully and brutalize the weak. Aren’t you afraid of the world’s criticism?” roared a white-haired, venerable elder. Řâ₦ŏ฿ËŚ
But the question only provoked a burst of laughter from the distant onlookers. Who was it who set layer upon layer of death traps to target just one person? Now that you’ve lost, you’ve turned around and accused him of bullying the weak. You’re simply shameless!
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh, too. He approached the mountain and said, “Let me ask you this. You people did everything at your disposal to target me, but did I utter even a single complaint about it being unfair?”
His voice echoed throughout heaven and earth. The distant onlookers knew the answer.
He hadn’t!
No matter the peril or unfair treatment he’d faced, at no point of this battle had the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign complained!
“When you win, you’re gleefully smug. When you lose, you suddenly refer to yourselves as weaklings being bullied. Don’t you think… that’s rather unseemly?”
Su Yi had already reached the top of Cloudsoar Peak. The formations that covered its slopes wouldn’t withstand the suppression of his cultivation base. They shattered with a bang and receded like the tides.
“Go, bring the hostages over,” Su Yi ordered Qi Nie.
As calm as if he were gazing down upon an ant.
Qi Nie’s face was ashen, and his fists clenched. Endless fury and humiliation filled his heart, and he longed for nothing more than to cast aside his reservations and order the hostages massacred just to see the look on Su Yi’s face. He’d die either way. Why concern himself with the consequences?
But in the end, he suppressed the impulse.
Reality was cruel. He dared not do any such thing. If he did, he’d bring doom upon everyone in the Church of the Pure One; Su Yi would pull everyone connected to them up by the roots. Qi Nie didn’t doubt that Su Yi was capable of that. Thus, he dared not go all out!
When you cared, your hands were tied!
They’d used hostages as leverage against Su Yi today. Now, they were facing the exact same threat.
How could they possibly bear that risk?
After a moment’s silence, Qi Nie said slowly and clearly, “We can let them go, but I hope you’ll do as you said and refrain from implicating the innocent!”
Su Yi said calmly, “Your master understands far better than you that I’ve always been a man of my word.”
Qi Nie couldn’t deny this. Prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals, even those who hated Wang Ye the most couldn’t deny that he kept his promises. He’d never once broken his promises to the world!
In the end, Qi Nie slumped, sighed, and agreed to let them go.
Hostages could sometimes be quite useful. Who in this world could disregard a threat to their parents, spouse, or children?
As it turned out, there were some people who could, and Wang Ye happened to be one of them. If you threatened him with hostages, he’d return the favor ten or a hundred times over to see who caved first. Su Yi was the exact same, and the one to cave first was Qi Nie.
All their efforts had been useless. Even if they’d gone further and taken far more people hostage, it would have been a waste of effort.
Before long, the captives regained their freedom and appeared before Su Yi.
“Thank you, Your Excellency!”
“This old man just knew you’d win, Your Excellency!”
“Hahaha! These paltry skulkers and schemers thought they could threaten you with our lives? Ludicrous!”
Many of the former hostages went mad with delight.
Gong Yuxun looked dazed. She just took in Su Yi’s tall, upright figure from a distance and half-suspected she was dreaming.
She couldn’t help but recall something one of her clan’s old-timers had told her. “There’s nothing in this world His Excellency the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign cannot do!”
Before long, Su Yi saw the hostages off, and all of them left Cloudsoar Peak.
From beginning to end, not one person dared impede their path!
The experts gathered on the slopes seemed to sense what would happen next. Throughout Cloudsoar Peak, countless immortals couldn’t withstand the pressure. They flung themselves to their knees and begged.
“Your Excellency, we were wrong. We beg for your magnanimity. Please spare our lives!”
“We’re willing to turn over a new leaf and spend the rest of our lives making amends. All we ask is a path to life!”
Many of them just stood there, too. They didn’t kneel or beg, but there was no hiding the way their eyes dulled.
Su Yi disregarded them all, looked around, and whispered, “Even after all this, there’s no sign of Jiang Tai’e, Blood Firmament, Nan Pingtian, and the other old-timers. It seems they’re far better at enduring than I realized. They’re willing to cast everything aside for the Path of Divinity.”
To Qi Nie and the others, his words were like a knife to the heart. All of them lost control of their emotions.
They’d thought themselves the host of the Immortal Peach Assembly, never realizing that the divine children were exploiting them. Now, even the founders of their sects had heartlessly cast them aside!
How tragic was that? And how ludicrous?
Sometimes, too much cleverness would cost you your life!
“I’ll naturally re-establish the Central Immortal Court one day, but it won’t be today, and I certainly won’t let you do it in my place,” said Su Yi.
As his calm voice rang out, he turned around. He didn’t spare his enemies so much as a second glance.
He took a step into the sky and soared. All three hundred thousand feet of Cloudsoar Peak crumbled beneath his feet.
Heaven and earth shook, and a churning cloud of dust billowed into the air. The prominent experts gathered on its slopes were buried in rubble.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
They’d cultivated for thousands of years, tens of thousands, only to lose their lives today. All of their ambitions of dominance and authority went up in a puff of smoke, their lives and deaths no more than fleeting clouds.
When the distant onlookers watched Su Yi’s ascent, their gazes heated up with irrepressible fervor and reverence.
One man had arrived at the Immortal Peach Assembly alone, slaying a throng of enemies and shattering Cloudsoar Peak! Who could match his unparalleled magnificence?
He was the First Immortal of the Sword. Seeing him was like seeing the heavens!
Su Yi stood in the sky, gazing at the vast sea of cultivators in the distance with a sudden burst of pride. “I’ll take this opportunity to make three announcements.”
The clamor of voices instantly died down. The atmosphere was silent, still, and austere.
All eyes were on Su Yi, the onlookers’ gazes reverent and tinged with eagerness.
“First, I’ll have to trouble you all to spread word on my behalf. Whether you have a grudge against me or my past life, come after me and me alone! Implicate the innocent, and I will not just give you a tooth for a tooth. I’ll kill you down to the last man. I won’t even spare the dogs and chickens!”
The crowd was overcome with excitement. These words were undoubtedly directed at his enemies!
Wang Ye still had powerful foes, and now, in this lifetime, the divine children detested him. Su Yi was willing to bear it all, but if any of them took their wrath out on the innocent, they’d incur the full weight of Su Yi’s retribution.
“Second, three months from now, I’ll re-establish the Academy of Eternal Night. Those connected to me, no matter their status and cultivation, can bypass the usual admission system and be admitted directly,” said Su Yi, his voice booming throughout the entire area. “Everyone else can enter the Academy of Eternal Night by passing a test.”
The crowd completely boiled over.
The Sword Fanatic, Li Xiehu, and the others lit up with delight.
They thought back to the days prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals, when the Academy of Eternal Night was the greatest institute of learning in the Immortal Realm, a gathering place for the most wondrous geniuses beneath the heavens. Countless astonishing, powerful experts had been trained there.
In those days, the majority of the most prominent defenders of the Nine Gates of Heaven and the mightiest experts of the Central Immortal Court were from the Academy of Eternal Night. It was no exaggeration to say that the academy was a holy land for cultivation, a place the world’s cultivators longed for even in their dreams!
Now that Su Yi had announced its re-opening, they could picture the days ahead already. The Academy of Eternal Night would soon reclaim its former glory. No, it might well exceed it!
Countless experts were tempted.
But Su Yi had announced this simply to rid himself of one of Wang Ye’s lingering regrets.
“Third, although countless people in this world know of me, they know me by my past self. Allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself,” said Su Yi.
The commotion immediately died down.
Su Yi slowly swept his gaze across the crowd, the atmosphere silent and austere. Everyone looked dazed, as if they didn’t understand why Su Yi was making the distinction between his past and present selves.
Then, beneath the crowd’s flabbergasted gazes, Su Yi clasped his fist and inclined his head in greeting.
“In this lifetime, my name is Su Yi. I’m a sword cultivator from the Human Realm.”
His clear voice lingered in the air, echoing like the hum of a sword.
Su Yi’s heart was steady, without any further impediments. At that moment, he fully fused with Wang Ye’s Dao Imprint, using his present incarnation’s Dao Heart to sever the fetters of this past life and complete himself.
He’d waged war against himself for a long time, but in the end, he’d rather be himself!
In his present life, he was Su Yi. Before, he was Wang Ye. What was the difference between them?
The crowd listened in a daze. They understood none of the mysteries therein.
