First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 1893: Determining Life and Death in an Instant

As soon as Qi Nie’s voice rang out, a group of experts with terrifying auras shot off Cloudsoar Peak. They made no attempt to disguise the characteristic energy fluctuations of the Great Unity Stage emanating from them.

The distant onlookers saw it clearly. There were eighty-one of them!

Kaboom!

The overcast landscape was thrown into upheaval. The mountains and rivers swayed.

Eighty-one Great Unity Stage experts had gathered together. Their imposing auras alone were enough to make the distant onlookers’ scalps go numb, and they felt chills throughout their bodies.

Where on earth did all these Great Realm experts come from? Are these the old monsters who’ve been hiding from divine misfortune all these years? Are they all coming out into the open now? It’s incredible!

The eighty-one Great Unity Stage experts’ bodies flowed with the resplendent light of the Grand Dao, and the radiance of their treasures stung the eye. All of them seethed with murderous intent, and as soon as they appeared, they arranged themselves in a massive combat formation and surrounded Su Yi on all sides.

“During the Age of Fallen Immortals, divine misfortune descended upon our world. The older-generation experts of the Immortal Realm’s top sects had no choice but to go into seclusion. A long, long time has passed. Who still remembers their glory and prestige?” Qi Nie sighed, his voice booming throughout heaven and earth. “All of them have gathered here today, where the Skyless Darkness Divine Formation can obscure the threat of divine misfortune. They can finally display their divine majesty. Su Yi, you ought to consider this an honor!”

He looked at the distant Su Yi. “Don’t you think so?”

The other sect leaders smiled. They looked at Su Yi as if he were already dead!

They’d joined forces to convene this Immortal Peach Assembly. How could they do so without first making ample preparations? Admittedly, in a fight, the sect leaders knew they’d be no match for Su Yi, but there was no need for them to go into battle personally. They just had to stand back and leisurely watch the show.

“Is that all?” Su Yi scanned the Great Unity cultivators, and his brow furrowed in undisguised disappointment.

“....” The crowd didn’t know what to say. Is that seriously not enough?

The eighty-one Great Unity Stage cultivators’ expressions darkened at this severe affront to their dignity. All of them seethed with murderous intent, and they were champing at the bit.

Qi Nie, however, couldn’t help but find this entertaining. “Su Yi, quit acting tough! Do you really think we don’t know your strength? You only became an Immortal King a few months ago. No matter how heaven-defying you are, you can at best fight Great Unity cultivators!

“And now, we‘ve gathered eighty-one of them! That, at least, ought to ensure you go to the Nine Springs with a smile on your face!”

The others nodded. None of them underestimated the reincarnation of the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign. In truth, all of their respective factions had spent the past few months gathering all possible leads related to Su Yi and his abilities so as to make thorough preparations.

Thus, the way they saw it, Su Yi was bluffing!

Su Yi sighed and shook his head. “If this is all you’ve got, this Immortal Peach Assembly is simply boring.”

The crowd looked flabbergasted. They almost suspected they were hearing things!

Qi Nie laughed coldly. “It won’t be too late to brag after you’ve survived this!”

“Oh,” said Su Yi. He couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath any further.

He ignored the eighty-one Great Unity cultivators surrounding him and headed straight for Cloudsoar Peak, as leisurely as if he were out for a stroll.

But the eighty-one Great Unity cultivators couldn’t take it anymore. Su Yi’s aloof pride provoked them, and their hearts erupted with murderous intent.

“Get him!”

“Alright!”

“Activate!”

….Bellows rang out as they assembled in formation and attacked with all their might.

Kaboom!

Heaven and earth swayed. Divine radiance ran rampant.

Dazzling treasures took to the skies, and a torrent of destructive power swept forth like an avalanche, descending upon Su Yi from all sides. Eighty-one Great Unity Stage experts had joined forces, their auras resonating with each other. In formation, their strengths overlapped, as if they’d become one. Their power was so terrifying that even Divine Emissary Yue Bai, a fellow Great Unity cultivator, felt suffocated.

Qi Ning, Xuan Zhong, Nan Wujiu, and the other sect leaders couldn’t help but sigh. They felt as if they were witnessing a miracle.

The distant onlookers gasped, their hearts on tenterhooks. How could the reincarnation of the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign, a mere Immortal King, possibly counter this?

The answer, it turned out, was simple.

Su Yi waved his sleeve through the air, as casual as if he were swatting a fly. From beginning to end, he didn’t so much as bat an eye. But in that moment, the hum of a sword swept out like a wave, and countless streaks of sword qi descended from the heavens like a pouring rain.

Every streak was unparalleled in its sharpness, and as they fell, they tore open countless startling rifts. That dazzling sword light was even more intense than the sun and moon.

When that unstoppable sword intent fell——

Bang bang bang!

Blasts rang out in rapid succession, like the beating of a drum.

Eighty-one Great Unity powerhouses’ treasures exploded into fragments and scattered.

Their bodies were run through and instantly fell apart. Fresh blood splattered the sky, like crimson fireworks blooming beneath the darkened skies. Crimson, piping hot, and bleak, yet beautiful at the same time.

The humming of a sword still echoed throughout the nine heavens. Sword intent still ran rampant throughout the landscape.

Eighty-one Great Unity experts had been cut down like grass. All of them perished amidst the dense sword rain. There was no struggle, there were no screams, and there were no survivors.

It was over as soon as it began.

Qi Nie, Xuan Zhong, Nan Wujiu were still startled by the Great Unity cultivators’ combined strength, and the distant onlookers were still watching with bated breath, terrified on Su Yi’s behalf, but… it was already over! A single casual swing of the sleeves, and life and death were determined in an instant!

Deathly silence ensued. Everyone froze, rooted to the spot.

A storm of wordless astonishment swept through their hearts, and countless questions flooded their minds.

Eighty-one Great Unity powerhouses!! How could they have died just like that?

Is His Excellency the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign seriously an Immortal King? When in the Immortal Realm’s long history has anyone ever seen such a terrifying Immortal King?

They felt as if their perception of reality had been overturned. After all, they’d anticipated an incomparably fierce and brutal blood-stained battle.

Who could have imagined that Great Unity cultivators would offer no more resistance than paper window paneling beneath the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign’s attacks?

Su Yi, meanwhile, acted as if he’d done something too trivial to bother mentioning. He didn’t even halt his approach. He just continued toward Cloudsoar Peak, entirely unperturbed.

A waterfall of blood fell behind him, a vivid painting in red, like a scroll depicting a vision of purgatory. Yet this only served to highlight Su Yi’s pristine robes and transcendent majesty; he didn’t have so much as a hair out of place.

Qi Nie, Xuan Zhong, and the others visibly lost their composure. They felt as if they’d been struck by lightning!

All of them instantly realized the same thing. We severely underestimated Su Yi’s strength! Just a few months have passed, but he can do more than just ‘contend’ with Great Unity cultivators. He can flatten them with unstoppable force!

Even Divine Emissary Yue Bai was overcome with fright. He was in the Great Unity Stage too. He’d just watched eighty-one experts of the same level die in an instant. How could he be anything but startled?

“I told you, didn’t I? People like that can’t even take a single hit, yet you insisted on sending them to their deaths. Why?” Su Yi sighed.

His calm voice was like a crisp slap in the face, leaving the sect leader’s cheeks red and stinging.

“Are you… Are you really an Immortal King?” asked Nan Wujiu. He found it hard to accept.

Su Yi said honestly, “Earlier, I indeed used Immortal King-level strength.”

“Impossible!” Nan Wujiu cried out. “No such unreasonable Immortal King could possibly exist in this world!”

Su Yi laughed dryly, but he couldn’t be bothered to explain. He launched directly into an attack.

Less than a thousand feet remained between him and Cloudsoar Peak.

When he raised his right hand into the air, a hundred-thousand-foot streak of sword qi rose with it.

Boom!

The sword qi was like a beam of light cleaving through the darkness. It was full of a mysterious, unfathomable aura. All manner of Laws of the Grand Dao interwove within it, rising and falling like water.

The tyrannical sword force alone was enough to shatter the sky. It bore down on Cloudsoar Peak with such intensity that the people there could barely breathe. All of them looked stricken.

And when Su Yi’s strike landed, that immeasurably tyrannical sword light illuminated heaven and earth. The entirety of Cloudsoar Peak shook, and the light of countless formations erupted from its slopes.

Everyone panicked. Even the higher-ups freaked out and cried, “Divine Emissaries, please, save us——!!”

A tall, stalwart figure appeared out of nowhere, swung his fist, and roared, “Break!”

Bang!!!

The descending hundred thousand feet of sword qi was blocked, and it shook violently, but the impact didn’t shatter it. On the contrary, it ground away the fist force. The new arrival staggered backward, narrowly avoiding getting sent flying.

Upon closer inspection, he was a smooth-faced, graying elder in a feather coat. His old face was currently red with anger; his humiliation had obviously given way to fury. He roared, “Break for me, dammit!”

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Hundreds of punches slammed into Su Yi’s sword qi. It split with a bang, then dissipated into a rain of light and poured down like a waterfall.

The old man in the feather coat gasped for breath, his chest heaving. He looked rather wretched. Still, he had, in the end, blocked Su Yi’s strike before it reached Cloudsoar Peak.

Qi Nie, Xuan Zhong, and the other higher-ups were drenched in cold sweat as they realized how close they’d come to death. All of their faces were unsightly. That moment of crisis had been just too terrifying!

The most unbelievable part was that the Great Profound Stage divine emissary who’d come to their aid had just barely managed to stop Su Yi’s slash!

Su Yi glanced at the old man in the feather coat, then said casually, “Ah, a second-rate Great Profound old-timer.”

The old man‘s expression darkened, hideously contorted with fury and shame.

Meanwhile, the sound of conversation resounded throughout heaven and earth.

“The boy is truly powerful enough to fight Great Profound experts already?”

“Indeed, it’s just as we predicted. He dared proclaim that he’d come to this assembly, and he wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t have reason to be confident. Still, who could have imagined that he’d grow strong enough to kill Great Unity cultivators with ease? He’s gotten so strong that even Old Ghost Mu had to work to block his sword!”

Old Ghost Mu was, of course, the old man in the feather coat. He was a powerhouse of the Great Profound Stage.

“I’ve got a rough sense of the boy’s abilities. Everyone, it’s time we took the stage. With the Skyless Darkness Divine Formation here, we’ll have no need to fear divine misfortune. We can draw on the full extent of our cultivation without worry!”

“Excellent!”

As the sound of conversation filled the air, one terrifying figure after another shot from Cloudsoar Peak, making heaven and earth tremble.
