The next morning, June 12th.
In Alex’s home.
Du Wei sat alone on the bed, holding a mirror in his hand, his gaze calm and profound.
In the mirror, his face was reflected.
There were slight bloodshot threads in his eyes, but he was in good spirits.
“I clearly hinted to myself that I wouldn’t dream, so why did this happen again? Is it because you have already started to emerge?”
This “you” referred to the curse.
The source of the curse was The Nun, which Du Wei usually called the Nun.
Once touched by it, it would entangle him forever, until the day Du Wei died, the curse wouldn’t let him go.
He might become another Nun, or The Nun, or he might directly become an Evil Spirit. But either way,
The result was something Du Wei couldn’t accept.
So now, he was considering an issue.
How to deal with this problem.
Involuntarily, Du Wei pondered to himself.
“According to what my future father-in-law, Lawrence, said, the source of the curse is likely a demon. To solve it once and for all, I need to know its true name and chant it out to drive it away from the human world.”
“Whether it’s the ring or the Golden Brooch, there are some symbols, put together, they spell ‘vala,’ and there’s a letter that looks like a ‘k.’
“The oil painting was supposed to be imprisoning something, but that thing has already disappeared, and I can’t find out the exact symbols for now.”
“If these symbols are The Nun’s true name, then what I should do is find the other items, the media of the curse, and piece together the complete true name of the demon.”
With this thought, Du Wei took a deep breath, the calm in his eyes now mixed with resolution and ruthlessness.
To him, he had only been able to survive in the cracks in the past.
Even when dealing with the Nun in his dreams, he had to be extremely careful, maintaining the balance at home, using other Evil Spirits to fight the Nun.
It was like walking a tightrope; a slight misstep would mean plummeting into the abyss, with no place for his body to rest in death.
But as he grew, relying on his ability to mark Evil Spirits and accumulating many trump cards, he was not completely powerless to resist.
For instance, with the shadow creature, the first time it didn’t kill Du Wei, and afterward, the situation began to reverse, ending with it being reduced to being a tool.
Du Wei didn’t even want it to die.
And with the Nun’s curse, the first wave didn’t kill Du Wei; instead, it gave him a chance to catch his breath.
“Sooner or later, I will finish you off,”
Du Wei’s voice was cold as he spoke. Just as he was about to put the mirror aside, Alex pushed the door open, carrying milk and sandwiches as she came in.
Worry shone in her eyes, “Baby, are you feeling better now?”
Last night, Alex was frightened by the scene of Du Wei having a nightmare.
Drenched in cold sweat, he couldn’t be awakened no matter how she called.
It gave her the impression that she was about to lose Du Wei.
Of course, Du Wei knew what Alex was thinking. He revealed a gentle smile, “I’m in quite good shape, don’t worry about me. I guess it’s because I’ve been dealing with a lot of things recently and haven’t adjusted my mental state.”
Alex said with a frown, “But yesterday, I couldn’t wake you up no matter what.”
Du Wei mumbled, “That’s because I’m too tired. When someone is extremely exhausted, they fall into a deep sleep, and as you know, I’ve been very busy these past few days.”
Alex looked at him skeptically and finally let out a helpless sigh, “So you should stop dealing with Evil Spirit incidents for now and just stay in New York to rest for a while. You need to take a break.”
Du Wei nodded with a smile, “I think so too.”
He wouldn’t mention the curse to Alex, whether it was according to the agreement with Lawrence or his own preference.
As for the help required to solve the curse, he could completely rely on his father-in-law or the church.
Thus, Du Wei sat up from the bed with an easy expression, accepted the milk and sandwich Alex handed to him, and while eating, he said nonchalantly, “I have to go to the church today to give a report, and then Tom is coming to New York today, I need to have dinner with him.”
Alex made a sound of acknowledgment, “You go ahead with your commitments. I actually have a lot to do recently as well and will be busy for a few days.”
Du Wei raised an eyebrow, “Do you need my help?”
Alex shook his head and smoothed Du Wei’s hair with his hand, “I have a few companies under my name that need to prepare their quarterly revenue reports. You probably wouldn’t be able to help with that.”
Du Wei said with a smile, “Indeed, I’ve never been involved in anything like that. So, I wish you a pleasant time at work.”
Alex complained, “I don’t want to deal with all that mess. I just want to spend some time with you, otherwise, I always feel like you’re going to go deal with demons again.”
Du Wei blinked, “How could that be? The thing I hate the most is demons.”
…
Afternoon.
Du Wei drove his car toward the church in North Brook District.
On the way,
he took out his phone and made a call to his future father-in-law, Lawrence.
There was a confused tone on the other end of the line, “Du Wei?”
Du Wei said calmly, “It’s me, Uncle Lawrence. I need your help.”
Lawrence paused for a second, “About the curse?”
Du Wei said blandly, “Yes. Previously, Alex helped me find out that a collection of antiques was auctioned off in Berson Auction House in New York City. I suspect that among those items, there is information related to the curse.”
Lawrence suddenly understood and said, “I know what you want to do, but didn’t my daughter already help you with this?”
Du Wei said gravely, “But that information wasn’t very detailed. I need to know who ended up with those antiques and where they are now. If possible, I have millions at hand that could be used to buy them back.”
Without the slightest concern, Lawrence said, “That’s simple. I’ll just contact the collectors of those antiques for you and buy them directly from them to deliver to your house. You can just wait for them.”
Speaking in a profound tone, he added, “The son-in-law of the Wittebach family shouldn’t waste energy on such matters. I’ll handle it for you.”
Du Wei was very grateful, “Thank you, Uncle.”
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, they hung up the call.
By then, Du Wei had arrived at the entrance of the church.
Inside the church, many people were praying.
So, Du Wei found a seat at random and sat down quietly, waiting for the prayers to end.
About half an hour later, the praying crowd began to disperse gradually.
Father Tony, wiping the sweat from his forehead, walked up to Du Wei looking a bit tired, and said, “I don’t know what happened today, suddenly many people came to church to pray, saying they all had nightmares but couldn’t remember what the nightmares were about.”
“I’ve been a priest for many years, and this is the first time I’ve encountered such a situation.”
“Mr. Du Wei, do you think it could be some sort of trouble with Evil Spirits?”
“Mr. Du Wei? Why aren’t you speaking?”
